I am Rodney Greenberg. I directed and produced 4 Tortelier Masterclasses at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 1985 and previously a series of six at the BBC TV studios in 1973. Nice to see them still going strong on KZbin.

This was a brilliant class- brilliant teaching by such a great artist- Tortelier was absolutely magnificent- but here also was such a wonderful, hugely talented student- Clive Greensmith- himself such a marvelous cellist and teacher today. Also do not forget his teachers - especially Donald McCall and Boris Pergamenschikow.

Thirty to forty years ago BBC2 Television broadcast master classes by Tortelier and other prominent musicians such as Barenboim, Brendel and Geraint Evans Those were great days on British television. My wife and I saw Paul Tortelier on a number occasions at a small venue in Cardiff and occasions they certainly were. His rapport with the audience was wonderful. We were moved by his playing and the warmth of his personality. Later we laughed at his teasing when we waited for an encore i.e. the stage curtain opened slightly and a forearm holding a cello was thrust out. Treasured memories of a great artist.
