Thomas Quasthoff is my favorite singer. His Winterreise back in the 90s got me into Lieder and opera at the time. I have seen him perform a dozen times and each time he completely conquered the room and absolutely swept me off my feet. The day he announced that he would not perform anymore and concentrate on teaching was a sad, bittersweet day. No longer would I be able to hear this magical, magical voice in real life. But to see the maestro teach Hagai Berenson and get such real results in just 30 minutes is absolutely moving and maybe, maybe there will be a successor to what I consider the greatest bass-bariton of our time. Thank you maestro!

Probably my favorite baritone. I want to perform everything he has done!

It's such an inspiration to see this physically unfortunate man being happy and enjoying himself.

@@jenesuispassanslavoir7698 That's a lengthy, very uncharitable interpretation of a comment with which I merely intended to recognize the difficulties Quasthoff had to overcome in his life. If you don't think he is physically unfortunate, we´ll just have to agree to disagree on that. Have a nice day.

More crucial than any questions of pronunciation - which are still important - is the fact that this young baritone has a problematic technique, which a faulty, unsteady vibrato bordering on a tremolo. I wonder if he addressed it.

Why Quatshoff doesn’t tell him the word “combatti” in Italian is wrong ?? In Italian there is a DOUBLE T : COMBATTTTTI and not COMBATI . QUASTHOFF is not able to teach in ITALIAN LANGUAGE because the Italian of QUASTHOFF is HORRIBLE !! I’m Italian and I can tell you : his Italian is horrible !!! It is a PITY to see a lot of young stupid singers to waste such a lot of money with Quasthoff !!! He should teach only German Repertoire but please : do not teach Italian Repertoire , you destroy them all !!!
@roselaeti8015 жыл бұрын
Mr Quatshoff actually DOES tell the young singer at 6.58 it is with a double T .

Dear Associazione Culturale, your reaction is typical for our time. Instead of realizing, that Mr. Quasthoff (not "Quatshoff", as you wrote for the first time) is constantly helping him with technical and musical problems, you blame a world class singer and teacher to make the biggest and unforgivable mistake on earth. He doesn't fix this at first, but after some minutes he does. I agree, that the pronunciation is very important in any language, but this is not everything one can give in a singers masterclass. So maybe no wasting of money to take lessons with a professor of the Hanns Eisler Musikhochschule... Thinking of a more cultural approach to talking to each other couldn't be a waste of time, too...
