Master Closet Organization Reset

One of our first Extreme Declutter videos took place on this master closet. We were able to maintain it for several months until we made a few changes that just didn't pan out as I hoped. Today we are addressing those as well as a couple of the systems that have worked for us. Come hang out with me. I promise laughs and motivation.

You should put the large books on the bottom shelf, and the short books on the top shelf. It will help with the shelf bowing since the short books weighs less.

Enjoyed this video so much - thank you. I, too, have been labelling away like a mad-woman and having myself a grand time with my dymo. The hat doohickey is ingenious - simple but perfect; and I think your hubby is a love and definitely deserved to have his treasures kept well and out to be enjoyed. I also love watching people do nice things for other people to try to make them happy - that fills my heart. I noticed that once you had it up he migrated all his hats over there - his cowboy hat and such - so they could all be in the collection - that's not a pile of stuff anymore - that's a curated collection of hats which bring joy to your hubby 😊

I love that i found your channel. I struggle with chronic pain as well as depression. Im a perfectionist but have had to let that go and just tackle what i can as i can. Purging clothes is always another time for after i clean it up. Much less to look at, when you finally purge. I actually put away summer decor, put out some fall and cleaned the top of my craft desk today. The craft purge is happening again this winter 😬

I made a storage bin a "party bin" the throw gift bags in and those little like reusable happy birthday signs and party decorations and streamers and stuff whatever supplies that I have after a party that are still good or still in decent enough condition to save or maybe things we hadn't used. And I sick them in the bin and it's perfect because now anytime I'm like oh shoot where the gift bags or I find one randomly in my house it actually has a home!!!! I can't tell you how many times I've just found a gift bags and random places before we had a home so it's nice that I can corral stuff and we went to a birthday the other day and I was like hey I have gift bags and tissue paper in my party bin I'll go grab it! That worked out great I don't keep a ton on hand that's usually just bags we've already used or gotten from other people I'm typically somebody who buys bags on the way to a birthday party but this past year all the birthday parties we've done have been hours or really close family. I also learned that with Christmas wrapping paper and stuff like that just not have a ton on hand I do have a lot of Christmas boxes though so there's kind of neither own system right now they're just kind of hodgepodge with Christmas things that I'd like to get them in their own box categories too. 🙂 Because I definitely bought a whole lot on clearance. 🙄 But seriously it was like 30 cents or something crazy for like a pack of Christmas boxes.

I’m tight on space in a basic ranch house. I use an over the door shoe organizer for all swim suits and beanies/gloves and even a pocket for sunscreen and bug spray. Swim towels are shoved in the linen closet and it sucks :(

I just love your personality, you make sorting through clutter and organizing so much fun to watch. I like the drawer tiered unit for the bathing suits, I think that's a great idea. Suggestion: Splurge & treat yourself to some matching hangers & get rid of the ugly plastic ones. The plastic ones take up so much space, big, bulky and too much visual clutter because they're all different colors & sizes. Dollar Tree has flat velour hangers 4 in a package for $1.00, they come in black or tan. Walmart has them also, but cost a bit more, I'm sure other stores also carry them, but Dollar Tree, why not save a few bucks. I did this a few years ago and love the way it looks, clothes stay on the hangers better without slipping off. Look forward to the next video - good job.

I can only dream of that much space. I live a 1930s house in the UK with no built in storage. We have one free standing wardrobe each about the the size of the small section at the end of your closet. I don’t have a lot of stuff so it is a lot easier to stay organised. I bet I would have a tonne more stuff if I had all that space!

When I have too many eg Bathing suits, socks I put a few of them in a zip lock bag at the back of the drawer like quarantine, I use the primary 2-3 then every so often swap them out. Saves having all f them in the wash.

🙋🏻‍♀️ Shannon, I TRY to follow the rule of however many times you use an room/area than that is as many times you clean the room/area per week/month/year. Example, your closet which you use daily. You would tidy it once (or twice) a week. It should only take 5 minutes because everything would have a place, and all you have to do is clean it (dust/sweep/vacuum etc). A room/area you use once or twice a week. You would clean once or twice a month. A room/area you use once or twice a month. You would clean once or twice a year. Please note this is a work in progress for me, but it is helping me conquer my messy house.

I relate to this so much. I commit to 5 minutes at a time. And honestly sometimes that is all I do. Even in these videos. You’ll notice shortly after my intro my shirt changed. That’s because I got overwhelmed. I let myself off and came back the next day and knocked it out it. I am learning something is better than nothing and sometimes that little something one day Ts you up for success the next day. Just be kind to yourself. It feels soooo good when it’s done. ❤️

I'm sorry but the gift wrapping center doesn't belong in your personal space of your master closet. I've been watching your other videos. You have a craft room and/or junk closet that can hold that mess on your door. Clear it off! Make your space as clear and clean and assessable as possible. Actually I REALLY like it in my closet. I have tried those other places and what I like about it is when I need to sneak away I can wrap in my closet with the bathroom door locked. No one gets suspicious because I am not walking across the house with wrapping materials. And when I am in my closet I don't even know its there. With the door open it is hidden so it doesn't even make it overwhelm the space.

Be careful when you are swimming in our Texas lakes! A neighbor child died from that horrible brain eating amoeba. It happens when the lake water heats up too much. You probably already know this.

Oh man, I am always paranoid of lake water. It can be so gross. I didn't know it happens when the water is too warm, so that can kind of give me peace of mind. I am so sorry for your neighbors. That is gut wrenching.
