I so agree with making the commitment to preparing for each guest. Its a choice and a decision to make. Creating a new way any seem overwhelming and when its done in small steps it works. It's really a terrific feeling for the guest when you let her know,"ya know I was thinking about you when I saw ________." Changes don't have to be huge overhaul to have an impact... A moment when you are thinking of another can have a much bigger impact. With some guests simply offering a something different is enough for her to keep her excited. I hope this makes some sense💁 I am so diggin these tutorials.💙

Great advice! I've struggled with anxiety for the majority of my life and it's tough. Preparing and being ahead definitely helps, and even as a client, I definitely puts me at ease if my stylist is too...do unto others, right? Lol what I'm constantly working on is regrouping, and not letting it show if I do feel overwhelmed on a really busy day, or if something doesn't go exactly as planned throughout the day. I really loved this series, I hope you do more!

Talking about stress and the rush of emotions, I had so much stress being a hairdresser, I had to quit after three years. A year later I still find myself watching hair tutorials and you guys. I always play with my frieds' hair, think about how some haircut was created etc.. I liked what I did, but the lack of self-confidence and the stress almost lead me to a burnout :(

Hi! Thank you so much for your honesty! You're not alone. If this great industry of ours is still a passion for you, you can always give it another whirl! Anything is possible! There are tons of avenues to take in the industry. Whatever the challenge was, consider taking a class and putting practice in where you feel you need, small steps. We believe in you!

I agree with Steve! There is always space for you in the hairdressing family. Those first few years are really hard but it gets easier as you develope both your skills and your confidence. We have your back if decide to return to the industry :-)

Steve Gomez, thank you very much for your reply and the support. You are right, there are some issues with my techniques here and there and my biggest problem is that I'm so slow. Where my co-workers had a ladies' haircut set for 45 minutes, in my schedule it was an hour and sometimes not even that would be enough. Maybe the biggest thing was the stress though. I couldn't think clear nor concentrate because of it. I think it's a psychological thing in my life in general and it will take time to get rid of the anxiety. I would like to return though. But I fear that when I come back, my techniques would have gotten even worse and my work will be old fashioned.

Andrew Carruthers, thank you so much for your time and support! It will take me some time, but I would like to come back. Good luck with your work and clients!

Hi! If I may, remember that your fears are just thoughts, they are as real as you make them out to be. I suggest taking classes, watching more tutorials, purchasing mannequin heads and practice, practice, practice. With time and patience, you can make it happen! It may be a longer road to travel, but it's worth it! Don't give up on your dreams!

It happened to me as a client (200 years ago) that the hairdresser came sit next to me, asked me what cut I'd prefer, and wrote this down. On the paper there was written my name, and a pre printed drawing of a mannequins head en profile, and with lines he was drawing how my hair was going to be cut. A few lines up, a few 90 degrees etcetera. My second visit they would sit by me with the drawing, asking me if they did a good job last time. Adjustments could be made on the drawing. If the person who cut me had a day off, another hairdresser could see exactly how I wanted to be cut. Them having a "file" of me was comforting and gave a feeling 'I can go there again. They know how I would like my hair cut'. Note from me: Write down what they took for a drink. And ask the next time: Would you like a (water, tea...) again?

★★★★★ Outstanding review of "Preparation Meets Opportunity" PLan, Plan, and Plan" a Stylist is no different than any other professional that books clients. So many software and apps to help you prepare/organize for your clients. Sure you may not remember what you did with that client that is why you have a calendar so you can do your homework. Take notes after you are finished with a client, request permission to take a photo and log it in your notes. No one wants the Chef cooking food fast! Stylest is an artist that present their clients to the WORLD...You are that important!
