I love the consultation process with ALL my guests. I hear many times over that they have never had anyone take the time I do to listen to what they like and don't like about their hair. Man o man if I had a dime each time I hear that!!!💰💰💰 I actually have a notebook and ask permission... May I take notes? They LOVE that. It helps me remember more of our visit also!

Amen Sheila! There's nothing wrong with note taking, whether it's a notebook or iPad, smartphone, etc. Being thorough is what we're paid for! Rock on!

Having even a little bit of time to figure out what the client needs is imperative in pretty much any line of work. Listening to them makes it that much more likely to build trust, thus ensuring return visits. It works for everyone. Thanks for posting this.

Thank you so much for this reminder. I already book plenty of time for consultation, but I've fallen into the rut of letting my clients rush me. They want their service to be quick and I really want to give them that, but it's more important to give them a quality service. Clients don't always realize that a "simple" change doesn't always happen quickly. It's my job to know that. I need to remember that I'm the professional and that I need to stay grounded. Then I can create clear expectations and have a much better chance of giving them the result of a great cut and/or color rather than just the quick service they think they want.

Absolutely Teresa! We're glad this is helping! Another analogy you may want to use is to remind people that for the price they pay, it takes time such as if you go through a drive thru, your meal is fast, cheaper and not the highest quality whereas if you go to a fine dining restaurant your paying top dollar for expertise and experience which can't be rushed! :)

Adding 5 minutes doesn't work on my current software. Do you suggest a 15 minute catch up slot after every third client? What do you suggest for consulting with a weekly client whose hair you've done for years?
@stevegomez82276 жыл бұрын
Hi there! A 15 minute catch up slot can certainly help you get the time needed! Great question with regard to your regular, weekly client. My recommendation is to think about what you know you want to recommend that would benefit them from a look, health and maintenance point of view and make that recommendation. If they see the benefit, they will go with your professional advice. If not, that's there choice and it's perfectly fine. :)

Oh I like this series!! I have a good question. I have a male client sending me several of his temporary coworkers. Only one has come in so far, but I have another this weekend. They are all here from Japan working for 9 months to a year, so they need haircuts, but they speak very broken English, which I totally understand, I'm just working on the proper way of understanding the haircuts these guys want. With the first guy, I had my current client tell him to bring a picture in of what he likes. He did great! Showed me the picture and I did it, he was happy. However, apparently haircuts are a little culturally different and I faded the sideburns like the haircut and he thought they were supposed to stay bushy and asked his friend about it, who had to explain I just followed the pic. He certainly wasn't upset or anything, but with the language barrier, I wasn't really able to ask him specific questions. So do you have any suggestions on getting past the language barrier and speaking through the picture but really understanding what they are trying to say through the picture? I'm so sorry that was such a long comment! It needed a lot of detail :]

Hi! Thanks for watching and thank you for the question. As this is a specific situation that you will be handling for the next 9 months, a good idea could be to explore connecting with a Japanese stylist who is bilingual and asking for support in how to get these questions answered. Please send me a friend request on Facebook (Stephen J. Gomez) and I will connect you with a former coaching client of mine that is from Japan and owns a salon in Los Angeles. I will ask her to support you. She may be able to teach you some specific words or questions you can learn to insure you support them! All the best!

great! Thanks you so much, I'll go add you now. Just as a heads up, my facebook is only up just so I can run my business page, so you'll see Meg Pirrocco and a photo but really there are 0 friends and 0 info about me on there. It's not a spam account, just simply there so I can run my business since I didn't want a personal page active anymore :]

★★★★★ Correct, If I book a consultation I am booking an appointment free or paid in order to make a decision.
@stevegomez82276 жыл бұрын
Yes, we believe that once we understand the client's perception of what they like, love, want or feel they need we can then match it with what we see. If we don't give ourselves adequate time for this at the top or just assume we have it handled, it diminishes their experience. Thanks for the comment!
