Johnathan Ward is one of my idols, along with Akira Nakai, I have observed and listened to much content I can get ahold of. It's so nice to see and hear other artists value and struggle in similar ways as well as seeing their solutions that have been guiding me down my own path. I feel as if I'm still developing my unique style and skills but hope to achieve similar reputation that these great artists carry. Thank you Tanner for putting thos together, both of you have great and new insights of the detailed focused craftsmanship.

Yeah, the thing about León and Mexico in general is that, most of the international brands outsourcing there, are looking for the cheapest option, so that pushes the producers to cut out edges. On the other hand, trying to sell for the local market is a hassle too, because almost half of the national population lives under poverty conditions. Even 10% of the households with the highest income make, in average, less than 40K dollars a year. So, those buying luxury products are few, and many prefer to buy an item with a well known logo, or a well known brand, rather that to go out looking for high quality, high priced items from unknown tanners.

This is fascinating, as a baby YT person, i didn't know about the pay to play, I would be so happy to see burnished edges again, i hate edge paint, i think the craft fairs and rodeos are the place to be. I am looking at a brand out of Australia called the horse. Love this interview

I found your channel while researching my next purse purchase, and I'm glad I did since I can now make a more informed choice about how I spend my hard earned dollars: on a brand name or on a better bag? About Etsy: I had to do a deep dive on anything that caught my eye and found to my annoyance that not a few shops were hawking stuff being resold from drop shipping websites. I even found one shop selling a purportedly real leather, hamdcrafted bag using the same photos from an Asian seller on eBay - the eBay listing was for PU leather and was less than half the price.

I'm glad you found my channel during your purse research. It's important to choose wisely between brand names and quality bags. Regarding Etsy, I understand your frustration with shops reselling items. Stay vigilant like you did with the leather bag situation. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Lots and lots of insight here. Unfortunately, a lot of the centuries old luxury brands have followed the market trends and skimped on quality and/or outsourced. I had my hands on a pair of Balenciaga sock shoes yesterday. Sticker price was almost $800 but they were Walmart quality. Very disappointing.

Can you please do some on yoshida porter bags. They’re not known for their leather, instead nylon. But their leather does demand a premium price as they the most popular brand in Japan

Hey! I'd really like it if you analyzed the quality of a Dior bag. Netflix came out with a show fairly recently called "The New Look", and it's going to turn a lot of people on to the Christian Dior brand. After watching the show and researching their story, I actually felt motivated to go buy a lambskin Dior jacket. I scored one on eBay for about what I estimate the materials would cost. I love it, and it seems to be of great quality. I'm curious though... They have a signature "saddle" bag. I would love to see what you think about it, and I'm sure lots of other people will want to see it too! Dior certainly isn't one of those brands endlessly promoted by celebrities and rappers and billboards, but they're a well established luxury brand, and I think this Netflix series will bring them a lot of publicity, not necessarily to their target audience.

@Meli24578 no worries! Yeah I'm pretty confident that it's real. I passed eBay authentication and the quality and craftsmanship is really good.
