Master cylinder and brake booster replacement. *Quick note, at 1:35 I state you need a crescent wrench. It's in fact a flare wrench*
The brake booster provides assistance to the braking system. In simplistic terms, by having a brake booster installed on your vehicle, it does not require you to place a great deal of force on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The master cylinder holds the brake fluid. Additionally, it uses hydraulic pressure to stop the vehicle.

My repair guy was doing some other repairs for me and mentioned that my car needs a brake booster replacement. This...seems quite far from what I had given him to install on my car (spark plugs, ignition coils and gasket valve seals to stop oil from leaking into my spark plug wells), but okay then. Issue is, he tells me GM stopped making the parts for mine in 2012 so he's having trouble finding a replacement. He did say it was a cheap part though (well, cheap in comparison to many car parts) and easy to install. He mentioned needing only a wrench...and after watching this, I see he was rather right. Might have found a website to help him out so if I don't hear back from him today, I'll check with him again tomorrow to ensure it's the correct part and order it myself or referr him to the website. But I wanted to learn more about this brake booster and your video did that so thank you.

The problem with this is that you keep on traveling from your car seat to pump the brake 5x and hold the pedal down then go underneath the car to loosen the bleeder valve. You have to it at least 3x each brake lines, so 4 brake lines x 3 (number of bleeds) = 12 X

When the booster goes bad the brake hiss like crazy and the engine idle will go up a bit! The master cylinder going bad causes the pedal to go all the to the floor as far as I've learned. And it is best to replace both if your booster stops working. A bad master cylinder will ruin a new booster!
@CHAGrady
@CHAGrady 6 жыл бұрын
To test the brake vacuum booster, when engine is off pump the brake pedal several times hard until you feel the pedal hard, hold down the pedal after the last depress, start the engine whilst holding in the pedal, the vacuum should work and you should feel the pedal sink further as it’s being assisted by the vacuum booster. If it doesn’t, it’s your booster at fault.

It's not a "cresent wrench". Cresent is a brand of tools, not a type of wrench. It's a flared box wrench or something to that effect but it's annoying as shit when people call an adjustable head wrench a cresent wrench but to confuse a flared wrench with a "cresent wrench" which usaully is a reference for an adjustable head wrench makes me question the credibility of the mechanic

How to quickly cause a viewer to lose confidence. That is a flare nut wrench, sometimes called a tubing wrench. Cresent" is a brand name most commonly used for an open-end adjustable wench with a thumb wheel that changes the size. The very LAST thing you want to use on a very tight flare nut. Stay away from MY brakes.
