If I may I would like to add something about the histogram (since is so important). The in-camera histogram is based upon the JPEG preview. The image displayed on your screen when LR opens a raw file is one among a near countless possible interpretations of the raw data. The histogram displayed by LR is based on the current processed interpretation of the raw data that is displayed on your monitor. This translates into two things: 1st when you expose to the right, you can expose even 'further right' since the JPEG has a 10 stop dynamic range on average whilst the D810 has 14.8 stops when shooting RAW. This makes space for 'pushing' the histogram to the far right without burning the whites. 2nd when you open the image in Lightroom, you often notice that the histogram is leaning towards the left, the reason being is that Lr is reading the RAW file histogram whilst the one on the back of your D810 (or any camera for that matter) is based on a JPEG preview.

I can appreciate that you may have watched other pros channels and caught their mistakes. I am appreciative of the different setbacks that they face, like hiking 2 1/2 miles up a mountain to find that they forgot their data cards or batteries. (I've not done wither but have forgotten that I switched the quick mount plate on the camera base and had no way to use my tripod)...I loved your results. I am always ready for more. I understand it's not always fun to make a video, but never can get enough. I always want yours to be longer. I love my D810, but am tempted to find an 850, used, with low shutter count.. great tips on filters. Haven't used my filters for some time.... take care and thanks, again Attilio

A very nice look at how to figure out proper exposure. I love using the ND Calculator app that I only discovered through watching your videos in the past. Sometimes it does take a little work getting the exposure correct, even after using the app. Especially because I use a Canon R6 that doesn't have the live view that Nikons have. Wonderful video.

Another very informative video Attilio, thanks. One question. Many photographers have stopped using neutral grads because of the wide dynamic range of cameras now. If they need to adjust the sky they use some simple masking in post. I would appreciate your comments on this!

Interesting video. Seems to me one could get more shots and reduce the guesswork surrounding the fading light by upping the ISO and reducing shutter time - as long as you maintain the long exposure effect. What minimum shutter speeds would you need for various scenes - flat sea, moving clouds, etc.?

Thanks for the video. Always great. When looking at the histogram and there was clipping in a test shot why couldn’t you take the test shot with the ND 3 stop grad filter and set your base exposure from that? That way you would be able to move the histogram further to the right??? Or am I over thinking it?
