If TKD fighters would even consider.....for a moment....keeping their damned hands up. It's beyond me The toughest and most Impressive head kicks in the martial arts and their hands are near their waists.....what am I missing? I was a Kyokushin guy, the a number of years of kickboxing and now Karate for the past decade.......I just wouldn't go there.....and knockouts are common. Can someone educate me?!
@guestonearth

Hi Ryan, our son is 9 years old & he's been competing since he was 5 years old & the number one reason why Taekwondo competitors don't keep their hands up near their waist is because they have developed a very bad habit over the years. Coach Chase who's the coach of the USATKD said at his seminar with Master Damián Villa that if you overlook the details, you will fail. Take care👊🏼

@@guestonearth well i have no idea how this answers the question, nor do i think there is a definite answer (that i know of). i will try my best to explain what i think as a dan 3 blackbelt in taekwondo, but then again, many people have a higher belt than me so do take what i say with a grain of salt. this video showcases more WTF type taekwondo sparring. this means they go by a scoring system and not a raw power and speed system like boxing, for example. in this type of sparring, the most common way to win a match is to get more points, and kicks to the body are much easier than to the head and still give points. we train for sparring matches such as these with our one arm guarding our chest and one arm guarding our sides. we rarely keep our hands up to guard our heads (similar to a boxing stances i have seen on google) because most likely people will attempt to score points by kicking the chest. in some classes, this stance and style are the only things taught as some schools only focus on point sparring. in others (such as mine), we are taught this style for sparring, and a different type for a real world situation. it involves keeping one arm up to guard our head and one arm to guard our body. it is much harder to practice this style safely, so point sparring is almost always the type people practice when they take taekwondo. feel free to ask me any followups

Thanks for the reply! It seems a touch dangerous to me,. BUT,. I also see the position of the hand above the kicking leg in Muay Thai and understand the power it helps develop. With the hands lower it might free up movement in the core. Interesting topic! I've been training for years in Karate and would not mess with a skilled TKD practitioner kick for kick. I definitely respect the skill but have always wondered about the hands.

It is time to get right with Jesus. nobody is automatically gonna go to heaven at the end of it, we all have lied or stolen or had sex before marriage and the punishment is hell. Jesus died so you can get a clean slate and forgiveness of future sins if you repent of them once you commit them, so you receive the gift of forgiveness by following him. When you start you have to stop sinning, and follow his word and obey it. That’s following Jesus. Read the Bible

yeah their kicks are really good, but why only kicks? They just end up lowering their guard so much to the point where its nearly an open invitation for someone to attack them, in a real-life fight only using kicks wouldn't work. By no means am I saying it isn't effective, it's very effective and powerful for sure, however it's a little unrealistic because in a real-life fight you wouldn't just drop your guard.
@EVEROSFP1
@EVEROSFP1 2 жыл бұрын
@@JoelPlay..in the same manner with yours it's like say why boxers don't use kicks or takedowns. However check guys like Anthony Pettis who have a WTF TKD background and brought TKD techniques into MMA. Competitive WTF has it's own beauty (i especially like the" old" school/rules). Why the "real" life comparison? For self defense there are other styles of TKD. I respect all styles of martial arts And in my humble opinion in real life situations first comes the heart/spirit of an individual and very second the style (if there is one) . Take care.
@JoelPlay
@JoelPlay 2 жыл бұрын
@@EVEROSFP1 The difference between them is that the boxer has his guard up, and is ready to counterattack, however here they lower their guard, because they only kick. Which is honestly quite unrealistic even if they have amazing kicks, they can't block punches with their legs. Also, I'm sure you realize why I'm using "real life" as a comparsion, I hate to even have to explain this, but thats where the most "realistic" fights take place, when someone is actually trying to harm you.

@@advayvenkat402 that's a very illogical response to have to what the OP mentioned. His opponent isn't weak because he was knocked out. Anyone can easily get knocked out from a kick or strike just simply because of where it lands and how it transfer the force into the brain. I was personally gonna comment, that it is sometimes a ruling in tournament where's knockouts or kicks to the face eliminate you or point you out. Most of the time you get a deduction but still win. If you however have penalties already when you knock someone out or kick them in the face you may lose. (In the case that wasn't the matter) And this is to discourage super aggressive or damaging techniques to the opponent. Because the goal is to score more. And they didn't want to incentivize violence amongst competitors. That's simply the reason why this ruling exists. And it's for good reason. Same as why they have protection. To keep each opponent safe. Because a punch to the face might concuss you. But a kick can Kill you. This isn't the UFC, where competitors fight until they meet permanent damage with little pay and barely any benefits. It is a combat sport, and there's no legal system or medical benefits like the ufc to keep you well.

I don't know but would you rather get scored a point on the chest guard or get humiliated like in this video. Olympic sparring has always been about hands down and see if my technique is better than my opponent. Master Gus has a lower center of gravity and impressive speed. I rather keep my hand up and not get knocked out. However, most taekwondo schools do not teach how to block. They want to teach you how to be offensive and that is it. Never practice how to block all kinds of kicks. If the guy in the blue would learn how to block properly. The outcome would have been different.

Only problem with that is that if you're too slow or don't get close enough to stuff the kick, you'll just end up adding power to it. I once accidentally floored a girl I was sparring with because she stepped in when I expected her to step out. If I'd caught her at the extent of the kick, it would've been a solid hit, but nothing more. Because she stepped in though, I basically tossed her with the rest of the extension. Felt like a real ass for the rest of the day. Point being, if you're going to do that, you'd better be snappy about it.
