Master Kuo Lien Ying & rope dart

This is rare footage from a KPIX special in the 1980's of master Kuo Lien Ying performing with his rope dart which he was well known for. This was filmed early one morning in Portsmouth Square in the center of San Francisco chinatown across the street from his studio.
Master Kuo worked as a guard on Mongolian desert caravans in the early 1900's and he would carry this rope dart hidden in his upper garment. He had a way of looping it so that he could pull it out in one move. In the morning when students were practicing in the square, Si Fu would practice lunging the dart at trees and pigeons, always in total control of the weapon. A rope dart looks like a sharp plumb bob on the end of a cotton rope.
