I really enjoy how Daniel so eloquently describes what's going through his head when solving puzzles. Very helpful!

Much more than any Carlsen ever would (if you have seen his banter blitz sessions). Although it has to be taken into account, that Magnus isn't an English native speaker.

THANK YOU!! ...so much for sharing your knowledge of chess on KZbin. I've been playing chess for about a year and was stuck on Lichess puzzles between 1550 and 1750 for many weeks. Today I broke 1800!!!!! I got a screenshot that I want to print and hang on my refrigerator! I'm very Thankful that you are willing to share your knowledge of the game. I hope to hit 2000 on the puzzles before the new year. As soon as the Covid is under control I hope to join a chess club and support the local youths and eventually play in a tournament. It's kind of expensive to play a tournament for an amateur, but after watching the documentary 'Chess State' I recognize the need to put more money into the sport at the local level and help to support the next Eric Rosen and Daniel Naroditsky. 🦃 Happy Thanksgiving! 👍🍺

16:50 I can't see why Ra8 wouldn't have been a "safer" alternative. It adds extra protection to black's c8 square so that upon Nxc8, we have Rhxc8. The only downsides that I see are that it looks a bit passive and doesn't win an extra pawn.

I see most of these moves before they are explained but I'm still 1200 becuase my openings are garbage.
@JoeARedHawk2754 жыл бұрын
It’s not really the openings, it’s coming up with tactics. I can see all of this too but I have a hard time setting up these tactics or making traps in a timely manner in blitz for example. I can do it in classical but it’s just too slow for blitz
@thesteve42354 жыл бұрын
@@JoeARedHawk275 for me it's the openings, I see the tactics, if i don't mess up within the first 12-15 moves I win 80% of my games.
@JoeARedHawk2754 жыл бұрын
@@thesteve4235 I mean did you see hikaru’s garbage openings? It doesn’t matter what opening you play unless you just play random moves, which you probably don’t since you probably open up with d5 or d4 or something. It doesn’t matter what the opening is if you have the ability to convert it. Us regular 1000 rated folks can’t do that. Sure your openings may be garbage but in the long run, if you make good moves and find tactics, the opening doesn’t matter as much. I don’t think your openings are the reason why you are stuck at 1200 imo
@JoeARedHawk2754 жыл бұрын
@@thesteve4235 I mean that’s not really the opening at move 15. In fact some games end before then lol. I would say around up to move 10 some variations can still be considered openings. There are longer openings but do you really have them memorized? If you don’t have them memorized then they’re really not “openings” because you are strategically making choices then, which means it is considered mid-game. You reply in the opening but make tactics mid-game. Most openings that 1000 rated players only go up to around move 5. If you know dozens of openings that go beyond move 12 then you’re probably a grand master.
@thesteve42354 жыл бұрын
@@JoeARedHawk275 you're wrong but you can think what you want, neither of us are super GMs capable of calulating multiple 15 move lines, so playing rand stuff will get you crushed, i know my weaknesses, so id appreciate if you stopped projecting your own tactical shortcomings onto me.
