4:21 the "ll" in Spanish is pronounced as the letter "y" in "you", like "j" in "just", or like "sh" like in "show" (this depends on the accent, depending on the country, people can pronounce it in one of these different ways) So words like "cuello" and "lluvia" are pronounces like "cueyo" and "yuvia", or like "cuesho" and "shuvia" Hope it helps ^^

It can also be pronounced as /ʎ/. Actually, not pronouncing "ll" as /ʎ/ is called "yeísmo": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ye%C3%ADsmo Something similar happens with "seseo", "ceceo" and "distinción."

@uniquechannelnames
@uniquechannelnames 4 жыл бұрын
A *huge* tip is to learn all of the language's *particles*. There aren't that many. Particles aren't really concretely defined (kind of like "fly *to*", to is a particle) but they're like the connective tissue between many words, they don't really change, and they are super common. I'm surprised people don't mention learning them more often. Learn the language's particles, the top 100-150 most common vocab words, and a list of the language's cognates to English (words that are almost spelled the same and mean the same), and you'll find yourself understanding wayyy more Spanish. Don't get bogged down in complicated verb conjugation lists and stuff like that. They have their place for sure, but it's more like 15% of overall studying, instead of a majority. Most people's brains don't really pick up how to utulize a language like that, not very well that is. Even lindie here says "I don't write down most of my vocab". Repetition and picking up things naturally from exposure will give you an organic progression. People tend to put on a video or audio, realize right away they're not understanding anything then just shut it off or quit paying attention. But keep at it, the more times you listen, the more finely your mind will be able to decipher sounds, and put together words and sentences that before sounded like nothing, and remember those sentences for use in later conversations. Play things over and over, listen to songs you enjoy over and over, listening and singing the lyrics. You'll be surprised how well your brain is at picking up how a language operates, just interact with the language a lot. Try just listening to more native speakers in media, film, radio, podcasts etc at a 70-80% comprehension level. Listen over and over, shadow it (repeat what they say right after they say it), and then focus on the areas that keep slipping by you. Make that about 50% of your studying Don't get discouraged when listening when you can't translate *everything*, that's the whole point, but the more you listen, the more you'll keep picking up. Then use an app like HelloTalk you can find endless Spanish/whatever speakers wanting to learn English to interact with, either messaging or through calls in the app. I'd recommend joining a group on HelloTalk as there's far more overall interaction, there's almost always *someone* online, and it keeps you wanting to stay motivated and involved. Hope this helps!

Something I have noticed Spanish learners make, as a native Spanish speaker 🇨🇴 is that when they read certain words they don’t put the accent right, I don’t know if you have made it, but when you see a “tilde” in a word like árbol or canción you say the accent in the vowel with the tilde like Árbol or canciÓn, it’s just a recommendation for your Spanish journey and the you can sound more native

No sea demasiado emocional, el español es el idioma más hablado en Occidente. Soy brasileño y necesito hablar español debido a los requisitos de mi trabajo. Si la persona está en America o Europa Occidental, el inglés y el español son imprescindibles para aprender. No se sorprenda de que mucha gente aprenda español, me sorprendería más si alguien quisiera aprender portugués, es cierto.

That's awesome you can learn through context, I can not for life of me, don't get me wrong on rare occasions I have figured a word out from context, but most of the time I gotta look it, and a lot times I've come across words that I thought I knew but in the context it had a completely different meaning, for example the word tocar means to touch, but it can also mean play as in play music but it can also mean to have to. Three completely different meanings depending on the context

I learned Latin in school and I´m still regretting it. I wish I had chosen Spanish because I feel like it would have been "easier" to learn (and to maintain!) since there are SO many resources. You can practise reading, speaking, listening through books, podcasts, music, talking to others etc. but Latin? Latin is primarily used in books... I had a hard time learning it since I couldn´t actively use and practise it. I want to learn some Korean and Thai first but Spanish (Castilian) is also a language I want to "master" someday.

@@svellah4388 .... I lived in Poland for two years on a project management contract for my company. I hired a tutor and studied for the polish government exams. I made that commitment. I do speak Arabic as a second language and while they are different languages, my brain didn't stress over what I was up against. Also, actively living in Poland in a smaller city and using what I learned was critical.

I have found great benefit from the graded Spanish readers of Paco Ardit. He has about five books written for each level. And on Kindle it is easy to look up unknown words. My Spanish has really improved a lot reading those. Lots of reading is important. Hope it can help someone. Regards from South Africa.

I guess the time you've been learning a language doesn't determine how fluent you are. For example, I've been learning Korean since 2017 yet my level is pretty bad, whereas I started Portuguese like 3 months ago and I have a really decent level And I also think that if someone learns a language because they have to and not because they want to, it will be much harder to become "conversationally fluent"

Since you’re learning Tagalog, you’ll notice that we have a lot of words with meanings two with the same meanings but slightly different usage or slight different meanings, what’s interesting is that sometimes the other one is Spanish while the other is true Tagalog Example: pwede and kaya Both mean can but have different usages Kaya pertains more on you’re physical power and ability to be able to do something Pwede (in Tagalog) is sort of you being allowed or restricted Let’s say that there is a road with a sign that you can’t cross, in that situation you can (as in kaya) to walk but you can’t (as in pwede) cause you’re restricted. So: Kaya kong maglakad sa kalsada pero Hinndi ako pwede. these can be interchangeable and carry the same implications but not the exact meanings

Tiengos is a good website. It has articles about interesting facts and it reads it to you (by real people), sentence by sentence, and shows the English translation, and you can click on a word and it will show the translation. The articles are based on different levels (beginner-advanced). There's also an option on the website to search a word's declension in cases. This website was originally created for learning Polish but they also have the articles in English, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.
