This conversation sounds so genuine and heartfelt. Almost as if Kojima was trying to drop a hint to us that if things were set up differently for Snake and Liquid, they'd really see each other as two brothers who survived tragic mission after tragic mission together, sharing each other's pain and holding the other up. Then instead of Liquid tricking Snake, he's actually trying to guide him through the mission and ensure his family makes it back alive... Snake(Trying to figure out if this mission has any meaning): Liquid, you and I, we're nothing more than dogs, are we? Liquid(Who realizes Snake needs to talk to his family instead of radio support at the moment): That's not like you brother... Then the rest of the talk goes exactly the same. Both versions are just one step away from each other.
