I've heard, that solo before the bass solo, in the clean interlude after harmony was played by James, but don't think so, because his solos are always great and on point, master of puppets, tp live is to die, nothing else matters - damn masterpieces in soloing. So i think it must be Kirk, but internet tells bout james cause he's likely leave a solo in instrumantal. Idk, just my opinion

@ImYourOverlord
@ImYourOverlord 3 жыл бұрын
@@BigFatCaulk The Morley pedal he used, Morley Power Boost (and this might be how wah pedals overall work), lets the highs through when you press it one way, and the lows when you press it the other way. So, you alternate between a high pass and a low pass filter. Overdrive and distortion effects are usually more apparent to the ear in the higher frequencies, so when pushed to the highs, it might sound more gritty/dirty, as opposed to the lows. Eventually, I'll get the same pedal he used and experiment with it, myself.

On the other hand, it could have come from the fast riff, since they share the 0-2 move. Then both Kirks? It’s possible

@@AndriyVasylenko Maybe he got the credit for that riff for the same reason that Cliff got credits for the guitar harmony in "Ride the lightning" he took the melody sung by Lars and transformed in a guitar harmony while Kirk took the fast riff from "Sanatarium" and transformed the riff in that bridge, both were writen by another member of the band and later transformed into something else.
@HeavyMetalLukex
@HeavyMetalLukex 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, I can totally imagine him writing that riff. Perhaps he had written just the power chord progression and the 0-2 was added by James whilst replaying it later, a bit like how they modified the tail of the chorus riff in Master - which was also Kirk's like said in the video

I have no question, but a curious thing the 1st time I heard of this album in my cassete tape (1997-1998) when I was a young kid (9-10 years old). After the “Master...Master... Master” I thought the song had finished; then the clean parts of guitars would be a new song, or the 3rd song of the album. It was always a curious thing to me (I didn’t understand anything about english, lyrics, nothing), but besides that, I falled in love with this album until this day. Maybe it is my favorite album, the album I grew up listening to in my cassette player in my house. I say it is maybe my fav album, but after I discoveref RTL and AJFA and... you know, I cannot decide for these 3.

7:38 Actually, I think the chorus makes the most sense. I did have a reason for this, but upon reading into it deeper myself, it actually didn't make much sense, but I think it just fits Kirk's riffing style really well. Plus, it's the ONLY riff in the song that sounds the way it does. The rest of the riffs make sense as James' compositions, he's good at arpeggios, fast chugging, and open almost flying sections. I bet that the version of the Chorus riff in James' riff tapes is probably a variation on what Kirk wrote. Or at least one of them is.

The bass intro to The God That Failed, even though not credited to Cliff, I believe was a Burton contribution. I say this because even after Mustaine’s firing he and Cliff remained fairly close. The bass intro to Dawn Patrol by Megadeth from a year earlier Has nearly the same bass line. Because there were no legal issues in 1991 and neither band made mention of the similarities, in my mind it had to be something Cliff worked on with Mustaine, possibly before Mustsine’s firing, making it Cliff’s last contribution to MetallicA, or his first to Megadeth... your thoughts?

Andriy have you read Mick Wall’s biography of the band? If you haven’t I really think you should, it’s a wellspring of knowledge for the background of the band.

I'm glad you mentioned how James was a student of Cliff, but absorbed much of that knowledge. When Cliff died, I don't think James got enough credit from fans at that time of what his abilities had become individually.

The progess of James between 1982 and 1985 is huge. In everything: tightness, composition, stage presence, vocals... Willing to always improve, big ambition without ego, and freaking working your ass off - that’s how he’s become the greatest, yet so likable

Ride the Lightning..Master of Puppets..Both have the same formula "Fight" has that clean guitar which leads to distortion then complete madness.."Battery" Clean start which again leads to complete madness.Ktulu a masterpiece indeed..So is Orion ..Fade ..Sanitarium..after 35yrs of Puppets..Damage Inc intro still gives me chills..🤘💀🤘

And actually Kirk said in an interview that the harmony part, near the end, that he got the harmony himself inspired by a thing or riff Cliff had at that time. So I i think Kirk got the credits on Sanitarium because of that harmony part.

pretty sure james always made the blueprint of the solos in the demo and then kirk will perfected it would be cool if the second solo was harmony instead tho

I don’t think that Kirk composed the riff from Master which you compared to the thing that should not be, because that riff appears on James‘ riff demos. Also Kirk said in the Gibson Interview that he wrote the pre chorus and the verse riff for Master, although the latter was modified. And to welcome home: the chorus riff sounds like it could be Kirk‘s, because his riffs usually have more different notes and movement than James‘

The bridge riff from Sanitarium has always reminded me of one of the riffs from Tom Sawyer. Rush is directly thanked by Metallica in Master’s liner notes, so I don’t think this is a coincidence. That being said, I guess whoever was the bigger Rush fan wrote the bridge riff lol

Yeah, i recall something about borrowing from Rush! from some interview or book. Then Sanitarium is fully built on borrowed riffs ))

Discovering Metallica in middle school, I quickly came to the conclusion that MoP was their greatest work. In the 25 years since then, I have discovered other bands and music. Nowadays, I can appreciate each and every Metallica album in equal magnitude.
