Hi Bob, Thanks for this video😀. I liked that you educated us about the difference between a Sancerre and Poully-Fumé. I didn’t know there was a difference between the two. I also really enjoyed the food pairing at the end, after all this is what for me is all about: being able to find the right wine for the food I'm eating 😊💖

Sancerre was my introduction to French whites, and what an introduction it was. From Muscadet to Roussanne-based Rhone blends, Chablis to Alsace, Bordeaux, and back to Loire for Chenin Blanc. So many that appeal to me.

Bob, Sancerre has been a stable in the cellar for me. It has the easy pairing of Sauvignon blanc but as you state, that sense of place like how Chablis is distinct in Chardonnay. I have tried a red Sancerre. I was a bit confused when I saw it as I thought all of Sancerre was Sauvignon blanc. The red Sancerre wine however was unmemorable. I first picked up on Sancerre from a banter scene about Sauvignon blanc in "Oz and James's Big Wine Adventure". Also really liked the food pairing as well, because the food is the force multiplier to the wine and vice versa.
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine Жыл бұрын
Hi Ron, Sancerre is a stable for me as well. As for the red, they’ve improved, but there is much room to step it up. I like your Chablis comparison.

I love Sancerre in the summer; any producers you think are suitable for aging? Most examples I’ve had would seem to be best consumed young
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine Жыл бұрын
Hi Zachary, I’m not a fan of aging Sancerre. Even the amped up versions don’t age well beyond four years or so. I’m my view, the best case is some Sancerre can maintain themselves for a few years, but I don’t see them improving with age. There could be an exception out there, but I’ve not come across it.

The river stretches both west and east of Paris and the town of Sancerre is more to the east in the Loire valley.

I've been reading a little about Sancerre recently, so this video is very well-timed! Haven't found much on aged Sancerre, but my local shop has a 2014 Domaine Laporte, Sancerre La Comtesse, and I thought it might be interesting. Do you have any thoughts on that producer or on how Sancerre might taste different with age? Keep up the good work!
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine Жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, thanks for the good word. For me, Sancerre should be drank within a few years of the vintage. I’ve had a few older ones, they can sometimes maintain themselves, but I don’t see them improving with age. In general, I’ve not had any 100% Sauv Blanc from anywhere in the world that improves beyond a few years.

Actually not had any of the Vacheron SB. Had their 2018 rouge a while ago. Very bright and fruity, nice body great balance, stoney, and crunchy finish. Not as much Burgundian, more Pinot Nero. Do love SB from Sancerre. Great info as always. Cheers.

Global warming really affects the Abv of Sancerre, most of the recent vintages were 13.5% +, which slightly reduces the elegance of the wine. I still love Sancerre but I usually go for Martinborough or Marlborough especially with crowds
