I read this somewhere: It is common for native Spanish speakers to leave out the definite articles ( el, la, los, las) if it comes after the verb "ser" . "to be " (soy, eres ,es, somos, son.). Otherwise, the possessive pronouns are preceded by el, la, lo, los, or las.
