I was watching television on night years ago and mesothelioma lawyer ads kept popping up over and over. What does that have to do with martial arts? In these mesothelioma lawyer ads there was a mesothelioma stricken victim who was walking with a cane. That lung cancer and mesothelioma lawyer commercial with the mesothelioma lung cancer patient using a cane reminded me of combat hapkido cane fighting that I had seen years ago at a martial arts tournament. Lung cancer and mesothelioma is no joke, and I'm not making light of the need for a mesothelioma lawyer, I'm just thinking of what got me started training in cane self defense so many years ago.

Great advice! Having studied Kenpo since the '60s, Aikido since the mid80's, and now canes since the mid90, the best lesson I have learned is never let your opponent know that you might know something other than how to use a cane to help you walk. I am 71 and am willing (there is the operative word) willing to take a weapon to my opponent to stop his aggression!

This is excellent. You hit the nail on the head when you talked about crime, In UK one of the biggest challenges for dog owners is dog theft. Lockdown has pushed up the demand and prices have trebled. Dogs are being stolen from homes and gardens and there have been a growing number of attacks where people (some quite elderly) have been punched and kicked and threatened with knives and their dog taken which is devastating. I am 55, doing my best to get fit and have just bought a standard walking stick (urban dog walks) and a hiking staff for country walks. I would protect my 2 little dogs with my life if I had to. Thanks for all the videos, I fully intend practicing with both my newly acquired sticks. We are not allowed pepper spray here, but we can buy the red gel which stains skin for a week. Also bought steel toe capped work boots. I live in a small rural town, but things are getting bad everywhere and the police are doing very little to ease our concerns.

Good practical information without flash, flare, or unrealistic movements. Straight to the point and using the tool as it is meant to be used. I don’t like the other people’s videos that use the cane for locks and joint manipulation... a very risky undertaking for an unwilling opponent intending to do harm. The cane is a blunt instrument and meant to be used as such. Fancy maneuvers can get people killed. I like how you stick to stokes and avoid all the hokey locks and throws and you keep it real.

A walking stick is about the only thing you can legally carry in the Uk to protect yourself with ..And the nicest thing is as you get older and more vulnerable carrying the cane becomes less suspicious and gives you that added bit of confidence when your walking the streets which can deter an attacker as they prey on fear and weakness

I like it! Yes, we have the right to defend ourselves, because brutal predators are very real and many will cause us great injury or death without a second thought. Some high on drugs or paranoid can become aggressive, potentially deadly, at any time, at any place. Others usually only become aggressive when they think they have the advantage. If unable to avoid an imminent physical attack, it's up to each one of us to show the attacker he made a big mistake. I have no desire to hurt another human being, but I also have no desire to be hurt. Thank you for helping us to be better prepared and able to defend ourselves.

Great thing about the cane is that it is socially acceptable anywhere and you can carry it anywhere without being questioned or have to explain why. The ADA says you have the right to go anywhere with your cane the general public can, and HIPPA makes its illegal for anyone to question your reasons for using it or ask what your medical disability is. I go right through airports and courthouses without a second glance, and I carry a hefty wooden cane. I’ve even had an Officer at a courthouse security checkpoint comment on how solid my cane is and how it could do some damage, then hand it right back to me and in the courthouse I went. Just use it in public as it’s meant to be used and not twirling it all around and showing off with it and no one will think twice about it. Good advice and instruction, btw.

The only problem with it is that you can’t use this method if your not old. You’ll be questioned probably why a young person is walking around with a cane.
@MarkedInBlack
@MarkedInBlack 3 жыл бұрын
@@daniellahmanchuk2602 It is against HIPPA to be questioned for using a cane. The ADA allows you to carry it anywhere and HIPPA prevents them from questioning you. If they deny either or question you, they open themselves up to legal action, so let them ask questions and then contact a lawyer. ACSD and Canemasters sell a mobility card for $10 that I carry in my wallet with that ADA and HIPPA info on it, the statue numbers, and contact 800 numbers that can be shown to back up what I just said in case I encounter any green, overzealous security or store employees who may not be aware of the laws.

Your seminars might find a receptive audience with the millions of retired military as well as civilian seniors with some degree of temporary or permanent disability. With all the “over 55” communities, the venues here are limitless. My wife laughed when I said I was ordering a wooden cane to replace my flimsy metal one until she saw your video. Ok, that makes way more sense than your "tambour major" stuff, you showed in your last video. Especially that part to be aware of potential dangers. A cane is a very good weapon if you know how to use it, and it's absolutely legal. I am 62, to be honest, I don't need a cane to walk. But I always use it, just for the case to defend myself or my wife

Thank you. The spins are just for warm up and cross training, conditioning. Like a boxer uses a jump rope to train but not to fight. Some instructors do teach the spins for defense but I usually stay away from suggesting them as a technique for self defense. I teach mostly thrusts as the most effective techniques, based on bayonet training or the use of a riot baton. Thanks for your feedback.

@@pasquinilli I really appreciate your honest comment. I guess you are a very likeable and intelligent person, with a good sense of humor. You wasn't offended at all with my comment. In my younger years, I used to be german and european champion in kickboxing and I worked as a security guard. So I got some experience in combat situations. The german weapon laws are super strict, so I discovered the value of a cane, my cane got a very sharp, steely tip. That makes a big difference and you are absolutely right, I use it just like a Bajonett. The most effective way to defend yourself. I will try to watch your videos more often. Keep going with your good work!

Too bad I can't post photos. Show you how I rigged the very same cheap cane. It's unique and badass, cheap too if you got the Marlingspike skills. I use it everyday out in the forest with my dog mostly. I ordered the Canex clear coat plain and sanded the crap off, then boiled some old bits of walnut husk I found kicking around in the snow in the forest. I boiled like 10 of them down and dipped old piece of white tshirt into it after it cooled, while wearing vinyl gloves and stained it. Did it twice at least, waiting awhile in between. It dries almost instantly. Then I used big gutter nails as Marlingspikes, inserted into Marlingspike hitches in 550lb Paracord to draw Single Constrictor Knots as tight as the cord can take; around the cane at strategic points for powerful grip control and wicked hard striking and rasping ridges. I used a chip knife to carve a hidden and strong two facet point on the inside of the curved handle end. Also, I use it for beating trail sections bare if I don't have my machete. I retain the rubber tip by forcing it over a constrictor knot.

Hi Matt, I use a Jo with a sling through it, it supports over 30% of your weight and doesn't load your wrists, as mine have had it, from years of walking on the canes while raising my Sons as a single Dad. I had it police approved, and I have an alternate use for the edged egg-shaped lower section on what used to be an Oak 1&1/4 inches thick shovel handle, I handed it with the section that I grasp similar to that K-Bar handle shape so I know I'm aligned correctly for the edge to strike Bone. The shaped sections also work well when I fall on the ice and snow while out with my Dogs, to get back up, as the stick doesn't rotate when gripping it with my Arithritic hands, so it's an approved disability device, and I find a Jo better than a walking stick. The thugs are living in all our parks and beaches at present, so if we elderly people want to enjoy what we retired to, we basically have to deliver ourselves up so they can take their pick. We had no crime and voted the best place in Canada to live, just a short while ago, even Elton John purchased a House here on the Beach by the River mouth. Now He has a homeless encampment on the Beach same as all the parks, same as everywhere else, and every local park. We have had two old Ladies stabbed in Broad daylight in High st since Christmas, and one guy beaten stupid in his own backyard for disturbing a guy while doing all his business in this guy's backyard, his face looks like he'd been dragged across the parking lot bad Gravel Rash.

@pasquinilli
@pasquinilli 3 жыл бұрын
The hook end is a great hammer or “fist” to strike with. Not only heavier, but more surface area! Great question. Thanks!

The uh, Walking Cane was intended as a Training Tool not actually intended to fight super strong Nigerian Mafia Ganglords. Just not going to work from which perspective ever or that aspective is quite tiny. Walking cane was intended to imply WALK AWAY with your head up. If you wish not to then don't carry a walking cane since Seniors do this usually and it is quite normal in India where I am from.

I could not wait to let the people know how deadly the traditional fighting weapons of my mother's people, the Bundjalung people of Northern NSW Australia. If people are familiar with the "teardrop" design of canemasters canes, designed to break bones, they should reconsider the edge carved into a fighting boomerang, and how effective it can possibly be, taking the concept to its extreme like that. I use half length spears, with heat treating on the edge, which will go right through an intruder, with multiple ones to thrust and throw at multiple opponents. Armed with my deadly effective ancestors war weapons, I am an extremely dangerous man indeed. I train with them every day, in the traditional warriors way.... Our people use the same weapons for hunting and for war...... they are for survival, and our fighting sticks are sharpened up like a lightweight wooden machete, and will break bones in the arms and legs like twigs, and open the head up with light flicking attacks, or crush it completely with power strikes. These weapons must be dodged or blocked with another weapon. The knife wielder hasn't got much more chance than the empty hands of ever doing anything against them. Their combinations work similar to Sinawali and Filipino stick and blade work. They are almost as deadly as bladed weapons. Their ability to break bones with the angles carved into the edge is beyond belief or comprehension, and my little lightweight one is the most deceptive and dangerous of all. Used like a yawarra stick, it also strikes both ways still, breaking bones and is double sided so reverse motion applies immediately. As I say, deadly. And we use slingshots to launch our spears with extreme accuracy and intent. They go much faster, and go right through the target in times of war or in self defence. We can launch them a couple per second..... Accurately.... And know where to aim to kill, and how to hit moving targets, such as Kangaroo, which mimic the human being. As for the nulla nulla, or "fighting sticks", they are made to leave an enemy dead, and that is that.They are like the Funnel Web Spider or Coastal Taipan of fighting sticks......Deadly..... I own, have used, and play with all manner of sticks and combat canes at home, and am an Eskrimador of many years, and nothing even comes close to the war boomerangs being used as fighting sticks, and the various form of nulla nulla (fighting sticks) of my mother's people.!! Fact! On my father's side I have all Irish, and learnt some shillelagh and some bare knuckle boxing, along with the dirty tricks, growing up. I own traditional blackthorn shillelagh too. Being both Indigenous Australian and half Irish, the whole family really knows how to fight!!!...Keep up the good work brother. Loved this video.

I’m getting weaker in my wrists so it’s tougher for me to “chamber” the cane in terms of preparing a defense that is more of a standoff rather than CQB. Frankly my past martial arts and even military training tells me that if I have to defend myself, I WANT him close and overconfident.

Bare hands or knives, clubs and guns: DISTANCE IS GOOD! My limited stick training experience is mostly with the "quarterstaff'", a rather conspicuous object when down-town, less so in Sherwood Forest. (or hiking in the hills). Striking with a swung stick or cane works at "clearance" ranges, but JABS are seriously effective. The force delivered by the small surface area of the tip driven two-handed straight in, is impressive. A hard drive into the abdomen, just below the sternum will do liver damage, likewise into the kidneys; incredibly painful and disabling. A straight strike to the temple of the skull without the rubber boot is potentially instantly lethal as the skull is relatively thin in this region. Extreme pain and temporary blindness is just the start. If you fracture the temple region, the "depression" WILL cause bleeding inside the skull; VERY nasty and this injury will require urgent surgery if the "subject" is not to die or suffer permanent brain damage. Across the throat may rupture the larynx, making it somewhat difficult for a would-be assailant to breathe, (or call for his "associates". HOWEVER, if you have been attacked, the mongrel's life is in YOUR hands.

A couple comments for the middle age and up people. Like myself, ha ha. My experience with cane defense came courtesy of a recent foot injury and then my first stroll down my street after recovery with my CVS light metal cane. I was able to fend off a loose neighbor's pitbull with many pokes to the neck and face. For the folks that haven't bought heavy wood canes I recommend poking first and swinging second when it comes to aggressive animals. Thankfully no attacks by humans on me. You did show great poking/smashing techniques with the heavy wood cane handle. But I would like to add that pokes to groin area might a good technique for the more feeble defenders (elderly) ? Dogs are more defenseless to grab canes and wrestle them away than young thug humans are. I would think safe distance pokes to the groin area are less likely to be intercepted and can also disable? Your thoughts are welcome :)

20 years old, I severely injured my knee and was dependant on an aid for walking. A cane chose me. Needed it for a couple years. Now in my 60s and that cane is still with me. In the interim years I was a student, then instructor, in martial arts. This included that cane. About to the point, probably stubbornly past, where it's needed again for walking. Cane is a good, non-lethal, supplement to a CCW.
