Thank you for the video and I hope this will keep people from being pressured into doing a divemaster course. I see so many people who only want to go as far as a master scuba diver, but get pressured into doing a divemaster course by their dive shop. Lots of them are usually not ready yet. Enjoy the water and being in a different world with never leaving our world!!!

One aspect not mentioned: as Master Scuba Diver candidate you are a customer: can take the courses at our own pace with no responsibilities, instructor is your friend and you just need to go thru the exercises - everyone passes. Divemaster is a lot more work: you are effectively an apprentice and trainee. Your job is to get your instructor thru his day as well as learn - so there's necessarily a lot of running pillar-to-post and 'wrong - do it again'. Also, there are no 'days off' or 'off days' - you have to show up every day ready to go and prepared for anything. You have to be at your best always as you're now part of the client-facing team. And your instructor's aim is to get you through the syllabus and up to professional standard as soon as possible - which means repeating stuff until s/he's satisfied you're up to standard as you'll be representing PADI (or other dive organisation) once certified. And not everyone passes. A lot of people bail out once they realise it's not just a 'Rescue Diver add-on'.

I have both. The DM course for me was much more beneficial, harder to achieve and was the course that most improved me as a diver. Some of the specialties can vary based on who's teaching the course and the specialty. For example you can achieve some without even hitting the water. You should also mention to achieve the MSD rating you also need to first obtain your Advanced and Rescue certs.

Thanks for your input on this. I’m that crossroads now deciding whether to achieve MSD, Divemaster or both. Good to know you’ve achieved both and that the Divemaster course really boosted/fine tuned your skills

Master Diver just doesn’t make any sense. It serves no benefit, there’s no ROI, it’s literally just a “good job!” Badge

Hi there, thank you for your comment. It encourages people to take more specialties, which enhances your skills and overall knowledge as a diver (with that, increased safety and a broader range of diving experiences). Taking more specialties not only enhances a diver's capabilities but also enriches their underwater adventures, making each dive more enjoyable and fulfilling.
