I think this was one of your best video's! Movement is so underrated.

Thank you for saying so. Moving well is as much a skill as it is physical fitness.

This was the best instructional video I’ve seen on movement. It’s the easiest giveaway to tell immediately whether someone is intermediate or pro level. I guess Paul Coll is not a believer in the last part about diving! I find the front arc movement works great when both players are doing it but not so much when one player is less experienced and running straight to the retrieval and straight back?

Thank you so much for your comment. One day, I hope to make a video showing how players should move around each other, and I plan to cover what happens when different standards of player play against each other. I don't think I made it clear enough in the video, but pros can do pretty much whatever they want and still reach the ball. It's us amateurs that need to temper our desire to dive. Again, thanks so much for the positive comment.

Great Video - I hadn't appreciated the nuance about how my movement to the front impacts the access I give my opponent to get to the shot! Will have to work on the "curve".
@BetterSquash
@BetterSquash Ай бұрын
I'm glad you liked it. The curve is certainly not intuitive, with hard work you can do it. Even if the curve is only a little twist at the end, it still let's you get out of the way without compromising your court position.

I came to the same conclusion about incorporating jump rope over summer. It’s definitely helped me being less flat footed and more on the balls of my feet. Also sorted out my back niggle too

Skipping is such a great exercise. Dancers, boxers and squash players should have very strong calves.

@ I know even 10 mins of intervals skipping (40 secs on 20 sec rest) was leaving me gassed out. Much respect to boxers who make it look effortless

@@BetterSquash A while back in my gym there was a father and son doing some boxing training. I know nothing about boxing but I watched them for a bit and it struck me the similarities to squash in a lot of their movement actions.

I, like you, don't know anything about boxing, but that basic adjustment footwork is so similar.

I practice movement sometimes but I feel like I'm just not incorporating it when I'm playing games. Any tips for that?
@BetterSquash

The closer your practice to real-world situations, the more effective that practice is. So the questions I would be asking you are: 1. How fast are you performing the practice? 2. Are you including the split-step every single time? 3. Are you randomising the points you move to instead of a set pattern? May I suggest you watch my ghosting video if you haven't already seen it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYWvnqSvbrqdja8

I wonder if there is such a thing as “two player ghosting”? The reason for doing it might be to practice not getting in the way of the other player during real matches, but I guess it can be achieved by other means.
@BetterSquash
@BetterSquash Ай бұрын
Yes, there is and I mention it in my Ghosting video. I hope to find somebody suitable to make a video about two-player ghosting. It's especially useful for players who find themselves bumping into opponents and/or new players who don't know how to move around their opponent.
