What do you think of Zellij or terminal multiplexing in general? Useful?

Haven’t tried zellij but tmux always in a session I am

Love Zellij! It was my one way ride to live in the terminal together with helix and following modern cli tools. I can recover lost session layouts ( due to computer restarts ), but I guess the missing feature is a friendly layout snapshoting | saving feature.

I've been using it for a while now, it's pretty good. Though I was lazy to separate keybinds for zellij and helix. Maybe ideally I could have 1 program use Ctrl and other Alt binds but for now I do lock/unlock.

Thanks for another great video! It's definitively interesting. For now I use tmux when needed but I'll give it a try

Great video Victor. Just to add as a note, if you use Kitty terminal, many of the features provided by tmux and zellij are already covered

I use wezterm - its better than kitty. but I do not use its built in multiplexor as then I cannot attach from machines that do not have access to wezterm (android, ios), so tmux it is until zellij can do all the things.

My setup has 4 side by side terminals & my solution to set it up was just "don't close that" so it stays running for days, but everytime I had to restart I would feel 20 seconds of pain. thanks

Very cool - Do you execute Zellij from within Nix? or you've stopped using Nix now?
@DevOpsToolkit2 ай бұрын
I use both. Nix to install what i need for each project and zellij for multiplexing. Zellij is installed through devbox (nix wrapper).

I cant use Zellij because it lacks the ability to copy from the output buffer to paste with the keyboard. Sticking with tmux (with jump plugin) until they get that sorted.

Hello Viktor ! A con is that it has less extensions than tmux 🧐?
@DevOpsToolkit2 ай бұрын
That's true, assuming you do need more than what is packed in zellij.

I'm trying it, but I found a drawback (I'm not sure if it's the mysterious one you mentioned). The issue is that when using Warp, the Alt key is not mapped correctly. There might be an easy solution to this problem, but in the documentation, I only found a workaround for iTerm and two other terminals, not for Warp

Unfortinately I am not using warp so I'm not sure how to fix that 😔

Maybe use a terminal that doesn't collect your data lol

That's the main reason why I haven't even considered to try it out.

tmux on steroids ! it's a great thing that you can launch commands on new panes, but what I REALLY don't like is that it's not available on official distro repositories (hate piping scripts to bash to setup software). All that being said, cool piece of software.

No plans to use it. Tmux with plugins covers all my needs. Sessions. Layouts, etc.
