Thank you so much for what you do. You are too kind to those of us who will never be able to take an art class. You have certainly helped me along my journey and for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hello, Paul! Sea turtles are one of my favourite animals. I have fond memories of snorkeling with my dad watching them swim. You did a wonderful job of drawing attention to the patterning on its shell and flippers. It has a sweet expression as they do in the wild. Looking forward to Part 2! 💖 Hugs to all.

Wow Isabella 😍 I'm delighted to be held in such high regard. I try and fill in the gaps Bob didn't have time to cover. With over 20 years experience teaching this I've seen most things and am pleased so much has fallen into place for you. Hope to see you soon 😍😎

Thank you so much 😀Yes, I've used dry bushing for many years. Its just so adaptable and fixable. Brilliant for wildlife and just about anything else. I use it for buildings and a recent video of an old deserted car on the channel. See you next week ! 😎

ANOTHER BEAUTY Paul!!! Your turtle is so photorealistic. I can't wait to view part 2 to see how you will finish this painting. I don't possess water mixable oils (at least I don't own any right now as I'm writing this note but that could change LOL) so I'll try painting it with regular oil paint. Guess I'll have to buy Paynes Grey oil paint too. Thank you for sharing this fabulous tutorial. 😍
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl - thanks for leaving lovely comments as always. Try using regular oil paint. It will work but I've found them to be quite oily so it might take a little longer to get them 'dry' for smudging. If you haven't got a tube of Paynes Grey then go for the water mixable ones. They still work with regular oils and if you do decide to play with water mixables in future you'll have the paint already in hand. Part 2 in progress as we speak. 😍🥰😎

Hi Paul, your sea turtle is wonderful. It’s neat to see how to paint creatures that live in all the beautiful landscapes and seascapes paintings. I appreciate your tips on keeping acrylics from drying quickly. I experienced that, and now I’m going to save the paint. Thanks! And wow! Dry oil painting is something I haven’t heard of before. In the future, will there be other paintings done with this technique? I would love that. Oil is so flexible and I have enjoyed these tips using them with acrylics. (Acrylic first, then oil!👍🏼) looking forward to seeing how the turtle’s surrounding home turns out. Have a wonderful week. ✨🤗🖌️🎨✨

Hi Stephanie - pleased my acrylic tips usefull. I nearly didn't include that in the final cut but as I filmed it I left it in. Dry brushing is just so much fun. I use it for all my wildlife and for buildings, and the recent wrecked car in the desert video. Once you get started its adictive! Looking forward to more splashing fun with the seascape then on to the next project. 😍😎

on another channel I saw a tip thats uses a mister spray bottle to wet and blend colors using a mop brush.
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by and watching Don. Yes, I've seen a few videos using the same idea. I should try that next time. There are also re-wettable acrylics now that can be 'unlocked' even when dry! There's a super nice Aussie artist that uses them but I can't remember his channel name - I'll come to me later 😎😎

Great paul!! amazing subject to paint,a new techinique(dry brush), a different type of oil color! it's a video with many new things to apply! Thank you for all and i wish you all the best! P.S. Can I have the link of the site where you find the foto of turtles? Thanks a lot
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Many thanks - thank you for reminding me to put a link for the reference photo on the video description. I'll add it ina few minuets. Thank you also for the kind comments. If you don't have water mixable oils try using traditional oils as well. They take a lot more drying I find but can still be used in a similar way. Obviously wiping out mistakes will involve using a solvent. 😎

Hi, Paul. I so appreciate your quick action on my special effects underwater turtle request. Could you address a couple of other topics, too? How do you finish the edges of your completed canvas? Bob Ross and Bob Alexander both cleaned brushes with a terp product vs. your dry clean wipe. Can you explain why? How do you recommend storing excess oil paint? I'm as tight as a tick (LOL) and hate to waste anything so I put my left overs, on pallet paper, in a protective container and freeze. And I'm still using some oil paints from the 1980s when my kids and I took a class. Some are becoming dry in the tube. What is the best way to revive them?
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Susan - pleased you enjoyed the video. It was serandipity that your message and this painting arrived almost at the same time 😉😉. As I'm painting on one of my paper DIY 'canvases' there's no edges. But I have used traditional and box canvases and painted around the edge if I'm not framing the painting. I use an odourless thinner to clean my brushes but only at the end of the day or painting session. I resist cleaning them until I have to. This takes the strain off folk trying to paint along as a damp brush can ruin a fresh painting - ask me how I know 🤔🤔😥😥 And yes, I too store my unused paint in the freezer. Especially the liquid white and clear. Once the paint hardens in the tube its pretty much game over. You can try adding a drop or two of linseed oil and gently massaging the tube but take care as they might split. If the paint is too hard to squeeze then soak the tube in very hot water for a few minuets to loosten it up. Then try linseed oil. Its worth a try but you might end up just buying some fresh in the end. Hope this helps 😎😎

Hi Paul! I’m jumping in again to ask about a great tool you made so your hand can rest while you paint fine details. A mahl stick. I’m sorry I forget which video shows us how to make it. If you have a chance, could you drop a link? Thanks so much! 😃
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie - Its called a Mahl stick but I havent made a video that really shows you how to make one per say. The ones usually sold in art shops have a padded end which rests against the actual canvas. This works fine if the canvas is dry and your just doing final details. But as I work on a wet oil painting this didn't work. So I first used a length of 3/4" dowl with an old coat hanger hook wired to the end ( use cable ties if its easier ) I found the metal hooks on plastic coat handgers worked best. Just wrap a little masking tape on them to stop them sliding on the edge of the canvas. Then I made one from a strip of wood and an old door hook. This is the one I use most of the time. They're easy enough to make with a few basic bits and bob's. Hope this helps 🥰🥰😎😎

Question I may have missed the answer ... how come you did not use acrylics to block in the sea turtle ? You are hands down the best teacher at least for me! and I thank you! 🙂
@PaulRansonArt Жыл бұрын
Great question! The answer is I sort of did.... 'When? ....' I hear you say. It was the very first drop of paint on my canvas. I started with Buff Titanium White. I use the dry brushed oils technique but notice how much of the Buff Titanium still shows through! Acrylic paint is very hard to smudge as it dries so quickly. So oils gives me time to blend over the acrylic base colour and get both a soft and detailed painting effect. Hope that helps. 😍😍😎😎

yes that makes sense I like that you used water soluable oils as I have those as well getting ready to dive into part 2 with my coffee Yay! @@PaulRansonArt
