Thats a great guess - it was actually just over an hour. Which goes to prove that we sometimes stress about the wrong things. The painting came out great despite not spending many hours labouring over it. Have a great day and happy painting 😃😎

Paul, I always appreciate your honesty. And a second and third pass is often a great idea. I try to take things to completion, even when I'm at the despair point. Figure if nothing else, it's important practice.

Great tip! I used to pull up early when a painting started to go wrong. Later I too descoved the value in continuing if only to work out what went wrong and the way to fix it. Now when a painting gets in a pickle I can spot the pending mistake ahead of time and start formulating the repair as I go. It makes painting a whole lot more fun. Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎

You are very welcome. Gaining some confidence is key. As is some early success! If you can paint something really nice to be proud of then its like a little battery to power your next painting. Now remember - not everything you paint will be a hit. Goodness knows I've painted many that were just good firelighters. But, there were some that made my heart sing. These are the ones you look at when your happy accidents happen! Best wishes Paul 😃😍😎

My main "problem" (apart from being Left Hand driven) is trying to distinguish where to apply Highlights/Shadows to my mountains so as to create its "shape". I try brushing to create 'angles' however I still struggle with understanding the resulting "shaping" - before I apply any H + S. Your video provides insight into how to create this perspective. Creating more bumps and lumps will go a long way to how I can better shape my mountains- with a more definitive and realistic look. More practice as you so eloquently remind us!! Your insights and teachings are easy to understand and follow along with - greatly appreciated.
@PaulRansonArtКүн бұрын
Indeed - many mountains are what I call 'right handed' mountains. The classic shadow on the left and highlights to the right. Very off putting for the left handed painters. Thats why I paint a mixture of both left and right handed mountains. I have also taught left handed before just to show that its not a handicap but a blessing! Embrace your left handedness - you'll paint amazing scenes - Best wishes - Paul 😃😎

Hi Paul! Wow, this was super fun to watch! I love the new ways to use fan brushes! And I bought a floral fan and love it! It’s a wonderful way to blend small areas. I appreciate your tip on lightening! I did try recently.. it was hard to use a liner for the streaks. I have a few of those little flat ones. I love using them!! I look forward to trying this! It looks one that can cheer up most anyone ☺️ I love the colors.. I wonder what bright purple to use that is opaque. The dioxazine purple is transparent. Which would you suggest? I love purple and orange!! Thanks for sharing this with us. It looks so much fun! Have an out of this world week! 🌌🤗❤️🖌️🎨🤩
@PaulRansonArt2 күн бұрын
Hi Stephanie - I have a floral fan somewhere in my giant art cupboard! Eeeek I havent seen it for a long time so maybe the painting elves can find it! Bob didn't use flat brushes but I think they are so versatile and I love to use them. See how they flip flop for a highlight - great for a lightening bolt. Just put in the soft back light like I did for the first nebula and drop in the highlight over the top. I have a dioxazine purple - mind blowing colour for a nebula. It goes on transparent but hold onto your hat when it see a touch of white. Now check out a colour wheel and see where purple is in relation to orange. If the wheel was a clock with orange at 12.00 noon, purples and blues would be at 8-9 oclock. Across from them is turquoise and greens. Now check out my painting. Can you see those colours there? A happy accident .... maybe. Go have fun and see you on the next video 😃🥰😎

Brilliant! and I even spotted your deliberate mistake. When you speak about keeping the blending subtle ... it says on the screen "subtitle" instead of subtle. Whoops. Can't win them all. How about one with a couple of planets in next time. I'm struggling to produce lifelike craters.

Thank you so much 😀Steve. Please have a go at one. Just use what ever paint you have and just play. As you saw I scraped up the left overs from last weeks painting and used it to do the first warm up scene. I always keep a couple of smaller canvases to hand (12" x 16") for the odd practice piece. I cant bare wasting paint so I might as well have a play even if it goes wrong! Happy painting and a good week too - Paul 😃😎

I can't believe I'm the first comment. Thank you so much for another great video!! I just subbed a little while ago so I haven't seen too much yet, but watching every day for the past few days... I was wondering, do you ever use the 2" brush?
@PaulRansonArt4 күн бұрын
Hi Benny - welcome to my llittle channel stuffed full of art! There's something like 170 tutorials to work your way through so enjoy. I have 2" brushes which I use for bigger canvases - 18" x 24". But these are a bit too big for ease of filming. So I usually stick to 16" x 20" canvases. These don't need a really big brush so a 1" is perfect. Bonus feature - they take a lot less cleaning too! Happy Painting - Paul 😃😎

Would I be able to make liquid white by cutting a little thinner with titanium white? Or is it a different substance….this is all brand new to me. Your videos are great!
@PaulRansonArt4 күн бұрын
Hi Tom - welcome to the world of oil painting. The short answer is no. Despite its name thinners causes your paint to dry super fast. So for a wet on wet oil painting like this you want your liquid white to stay wet for as long as possible. If you can't get this product then you can make something similar using a few drops of linseed oil and titanium white. Just add a few drops at a time or else it will just turn into a wet oily puddle. My best advise would be to get the right thing. It lasts ages and you'll likely spend as much trying to make it. Enjoy the journey and have fun - Paul 😃😃😎😎
