Thank you Daniel. It is truly great to watch a champion in his craft. I have learned a lot through watching this video. I have only been tying for a year now and so excited to watch a craftsman at his trade. I'll ty with more CDC, now that you have shown me some more techniques. Tight lines mate. Cheers.

Great video Daniel, I’m definitely going to apply this method as I fish allot of dry flies here for brown trout and seatrout on the Irish rivers here, so will definitely try these methods. Great video. 💯🎣🎣🎣🎣

So assured & skilled plus a very steady hand to produce some eyecatching CDC flies. I can see my tying station becoming a mass of failed flies as I try to practice your patterns; I can hear the cursing already. Thanks for spending the time producing a video where all can see exactly what you're doing.

Hello there - with fly patterns tied with CDC, do you need to add floatant in order for them to stay floating / dry while fishing them? Really liked the video, thank you very much for all the work that went into it.
@davidveilleux4688
@davidveilleux4688 3 ай бұрын
No you don't have to add floatant in fact you shouldn't use any gell or liquid type of floatant unless it specified for CDC .With CDC the only thing you need to do when it gets wet and starts to sink is to use a dust type powder . Just dip or brush on . Shake of the extra dust and you should be good to go.
@nofriendomine
@nofriendomine 3 ай бұрын
@@davidveilleux4688 Yes, I should have clarified that I meant the powder type floatant, as I know the liquid or gel floatant ruins CDC

Hello Daniel, first of al thank you for al te information you put out! i also have 2 and a half question:-), you use on some patterns snowshoe rabbit dubbing i think it must be verry sticky and fine, easy to make a thin and orderly dubbing noodle, but is this dubbing adding to the floating ability of the fly? and what do you think about the synthetick dubbing flyrite? the next question that textreme standart thread, is there difference about it compared to the thread from Marc Petitjean wich i use mostly, is the choise of tying tread a significant factor in buouncy, i realy love cdc and when fishing dry fly often use it, stil compared to deerhair etc the floatability is of shorter duration, stil this is a wonderful material and often fish root for cdc fly's.

I've looked at all the normal places for the CDC rope and not able to locate anything that seems close. Would a dubbing loop of cdc work as you intended? Might be a little bit more of a buggy appearance than the rope would be. Again I really enjoyed the video and look forward to more on cdc. It seems to be the perfect solution for day's.

I have a question about your Swiss Vise (I have one) just to the front of the nut that you loosen/tighten to adjust the jaw assembly alignmebt for perfect rotary, there is a little round thing. (on the top, behind the vise jaws, behind the rubber thread "trap") My Swiss Vise does not have it. The round "dished" thing. What is it and what is it for? How is it attached to the two arms that hold the jaw assembly?

There is hundreds of methods to use CDC! These are just a few, and my favorite techniques. Didn’t I use a whole feather to do the body on one of them? Not tightly twisted though. I agree! Marc’s book is somewhat a bible when it comes to CDC! Fun little side note is that I actually took some of the pictures in that one. 😊 His videos are also great!

I think you missed his point. There are many types of CDC feathers in a pack and they all have a use for a type of fly you tie. So you might have to search for the best feather for the fly you want to tie but it doesn’t mean the others you pick through can’t be used for something else. And any scrap CDC feathers can be picked for dubbing.
@christiannilsson4071
@christiannilsson4071 8 ай бұрын
@@jonathonkersting9043 Not gonna argue. SWISSCDC ultra select xxl will yield more viable flies in the long run than veniard/fly co .etc scrap feathers.CDC is measuret pr. Gr. and XXXL will yeild more flies. i spend 2 years of testing what there was on the market and xxl+ suits it all and in the long run cheaper then the rest. - i tie cdc's from #8 to #18's so quality matters. side note - cdc with the best float and most strands is an Eider but is "impossible" to get. Guess i argued and i am sorry.
@danielbergman8980
@danielbergman8980 8 ай бұрын
I totally understand what you mean. A big feather can probably tie more flies in the long run. But the point I was trying to make, as mentioned above is that most feathers in most bags of CDC is useable for something. For a F-fly or a Baetis with a single feather wing I wouldn’t want a large feather. For size 20 or smaller f.ex. I often thing the fibers in the tips of the feather are to short and make for a to wide profile of the wing. You can of course use only the fibers, but for some flies that takes longer time, and is not specific to the pattern. Thanks for the comment! Always nice when people engage. 😊

An OK vid. But I'd prefer to spend an hour of my time watching Petitjean himself, as his vids are much better macro filmed, with less waffled commentary. And WOW there were a lot of ADs. No stacked CDC flys in this vid. either. That's a basic omission.
