Check out Tom's Visualizing the Fretboard Tutorial: - bit.ly/2TdGOAR
Visualize the fretboard, master scales and play through changes like a pro with intervallic functions!
‣ Solo is a revolutionary practice tool designed by world renowned fusion guitarists Tom Quayle and David Beebee.
‣ One of the biggest barriers to improvising on guitar is finding and mapping out the relevant chord tones and scales all over on the fretboard in real time.
Solo is a highly focussed app for developing your note finding and visualization ability on the guitar. There is no time-based pressure and Solo reduces the cognitive load of having to choose which ‘notes/intervals’ to play. As you get quicker at finding these ‘notes’ you will conversely get better at choosing them whilst improvising. Players of all ability levels will reap huge benefits from practicing with Solo.
‣ Using common progressions, Solo presents you with one chord symbol or scale at a time and asks you to find and play a series of notes based on their intervallic function.
‣ Solo listens to the notes you play, analyzes them in real time, and doesn’t move on until you’ve correctly found each note by its intervallic function in the specified order.
‣ This process builds strong fretboard visualization for the most powerful, efficient and malleable way to KNOW your way around the fretboard no matter how difficult the chord changes are.
As a unique and powerful ear training tool, Solo also develops your ability to not only visualize what you’re playing, but hear it in real time too.
If you know your note names but struggle to learn new scales, play through chord changes or find yourself stuck in pattern based playing, practicing diligently with Solo will be transformational for your knowledge of the fretboard and subsequently your ability to outline harmony when you improvise.
‣ CHANGES PLAYING TRAINER
Practice finding intervallic functions over a series of chord changes based on common and popular chord progressions. Solo is programmed with all the knowledge behind the scenes to understand jazz and popular music harmony and will always pick appropriate intervallic functions based on the harmony of the progression.
‣ SCALE TRAINER
Practice finding intervallic functions within scales on the fretboard. Solo includes all the modes of the Major, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor and Harmonic Major scales, plus pentatonic and symmetrical scales. Seeing and finding scale tones as intervallic functions will transform your ability to manipulate and improvise with scales in real time.
‣ TUTORIALS
Solo also includes video tutorials to get you started with intervallic functions, how to find them on the fretboard, using Solo for ear training and how to get the most from your practice time with the app.

Hey guys! I am SO excited to finally be able to share SOLO with all of you. This has been a monumental amount of work with my good buddy David Beebee and our software engineer Mike. We've poured all our love and passion into this project and we truly believe that anyone prepared to put in the work with this app will fundamentally transform their ability to see, hear and improvise with harmony on the fretboard. The three of us hope you find SOLO as useful as we do and enjoy all the great content we've put together for this app. We are commited to constantly updating, adding new features and chord progressions as time goes on. For all you Android users out there, I apologise that you can't use SOLO just yet - the realities of development in a time stretched, three man team with a single software engineer mean that we can only concentrate on one platform at a time. We fully intend to release an Android version as soon as possible, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that. Here's hoping that 2021 is a far better year than 2020 and hopefully SOLO can contribute just a little bit to that for you all. Thanks for all the support - Tom

Just downloaded the app. In only 10 minutes of trying it out, I can tell these drills are what I need to make scales, fretboard note positions, and intervals become cemented in my brain and second nature when I play. This app will be part of my daily practice for a long time to come. I highly highly highly recommend it.

Extremely hype for the android version ... when its ready ! Also would like to say a big thanks to mr Quayle for being the best teacher I've ever had, despite never having met him! You can be sure this app is good. Highly highly recommend all his teaching materials. Coming from being a "classical" pianist, capable of improvising etc, nobody had ever really explained the notion of functional harmony in his (also Martin Miller uses a similar system, but more "guitary", I'd argue) particular way; creating a generic cluster-based system that transposes to different modes / tonalities, that's almost perfectly malleable; within the """limits""" of legato technique, of course. I have perfect pitch which has rendered usual methods of acquiring "jazz" harmonic fluency impossible to me, simply because my ear doesn't transpose; normally I would have to learn the sound of every single progression in every single key, because they sound the same, but they are definitely not the same, or easily transposable. Tom's system and fourths tuning has impossibly cured me of this auditory hindrance after something like 30 years so... yeah... its feckin good. 10/10. So if you are looking to learn jazz harmony, perhaps even if you aren't a guitarist, Tom's techniques for understanding the relative placement of intervals relative to a root pitch is beyond invaluable. It mathematises harmony without the boring explanations that end up confusing a lot of people (e.g. the functional difference between a major triad and a major seventh chord, especially relative to a dominant seventh containing a flat seven but a major third etcetc: i.e. is a dominant a major chord? ... well it's got a minor seventh... stuff that just doesn't arise from the perspective of the 1-8 note system). I say this as a lifelong musician who did the classical thing and came to "jazz" late, only to be perplexed by all other modes of explanation than Tom's system. If you want to look under the hood of Tom's method definitely check out his teaching materials on his website. You won't regret it!!!!

I bought this a couple of days ago and it is amazing how fast you can pick this up. Admittedly I've been playing for a number of years but I'm used to working my way around the fret board in specific ways (mostly scales). So adopting this chordal approach is just making me a much stronger musician. I still have a lot of work to do but I can see if I stick with it I could be improvising in a whole different way. In summary it is worth every penny to me!

It occurs to me this probably wouldn't work, since it's listening for you to play the notes, and having it play anything would obscure the sound. I guess it could work with headphones. But that's probably why it doesn't do this now.
