Early fall four years ago I resolved to only fish jigs: It was a big time game changer for building confidence in the jig and craw technique. Always great content.

I’m a fisherman and I already know about what you went over in this video but I’d like to thank you for doing your best ( great) job at trying to learn people that might not know. I love the menace grub and I like it no matter how hot the water or cold because it’s a catcher.

I grew up throwing a black and blue strike king finesse jig. It became my number one confidence lure from the time I was about 10 years old and I still throw it today. I had to go to a dirty jigs no jack flippin jig when I moved down to SC. I have bent the hook out on the finesse jig on some Santee Cooper monsters in the fall of the year.
@GunnFishTV
@GunnFishTV 3 күн бұрын
The finesse jig does have a lighter hook on it, so it does bend occasionally

Kev you throw more jigs than most. Dave over at Fish30 is right there with you. I must admit, I throw jigs all the time. When I was young I had no confidence in them. Now I do so I guess I grew up and more patience with them. I throw a KVD Jig with a Berkley Chigger Craw. I must say that I have more catches on them now. Deep water, shallow water makes no difference. I love the Bitz Jig also.

Jigs straight catch them! Im not sure why so many people are intimidated by them, but I was at first myself. Through the years, I have caught alot of fish on them though

I like a slender trailer later in the year and a zoom chunk not threaded on but just press through the middle in the spring slower fall in the spring is key

Alot of my buddies prefer a chunk as well. Through the years I have slowly gotten away from it though. Just a preference thing for me that has worked well through the years

hello how are you i liked your video i started fishing a jig about 4 years ago now with the strike king bitsy bug with menace grub then i move to the bitsy flip but i did a lot of research on jigs and a lot of people just take the jig out and a add a trailer and throw it but what a lot of people miss is the weight so if you do that that jig is no longer a 3/8oz jig so now i weigh my jig the skirt and the trailer until i get 14 grams and it helps if you tie your own skirts and the Potomac river fish love it and black and blue is my go-to i use it in clean all the way to dirty always remember green pumpkin will get you something but black and blue is tried and true tight lines!!!!!!
@GunnFishTV
@GunnFishTV 2 күн бұрын
You are correct!! You definitely alter the weight once you add a trailer. It all makes a difference in some way. You just have to find what works for you and what your confidence is in 🔥🔥🔥

Kev, this is the video ive been waiting on! Thanks alot. Question for you, i fish mostly Reservoirs and Lakes....should i go with a 1/4 oz. since its not tital water? Or stay with a 3/8 oz. I never fish jigs, so im going to fish it hard in February and March. Awesome video bud!
@GunnFishTV

I’ve fished with jigs before but just got frustrated. I kept on losing them in hang ups! Never caught anything on them! I was told to trim the weed guard by cutting it in half. Your thoughts?
@GunnFishTV
@GunnFishTV 3 күн бұрын
I leave the weed gaurd the same length as it comes. Cutting it shorter will slightly stiffen it but doesnt really help it not get hung. Most jigs actually get hung in wood because the heads get wedged into the wood

Practice and be patient with them. Never jerk it unless you’re setting the hook in a fish. If you throw a Texas Rig worm it’s the same thing. Feel for the bite and give them time as you reel down. They will run once they bite and you can go opposite of the line.

Personally, I never use braid to fluro on a baitcaster. It would work fine but I prefer straight fluro for my jig and flippn setups. I do use braid to fluro on my spinning setups tho

For the money, the bitsy flip is second to none. It catches big fish and costs around 2 bucks..The bait keeper isn't the best but is serviceable. ..I've switched to the dirty jigs compact pitching jigs these days. Pair it up with a Zman Hella Crawz and you can fish the same trailer all day. The wire bait keeper really keeps the hella craw secure. No bluegills are going to pull the legs off the elaztech craw.
@GunnFishTV

The Bitsy Flip is definitely a classic!! I've caught more fish on that thing than any other jig made!
