I only have the UADX version so I'm hit doing it on the way in.If you have the time in the near future if you could make another Vocal tutorial . Like with an outboard pre along with unison plugins. I bought an ISA-One pre but it's not having the impact I thought it would. Maybe a comparison on the way in recording of an Outboard Pre vs a Unison Pre . I bet there's a lot of people out there not taking full advantage of an outboard pre along with compression etc in console. I'm still not a 100% on how to set my compression on the way in. Some say squash it some say just a touch. I trust you . If you get the chance. I'n not sure if you even use an external pre. All I know is whatever your doing is top notch them last vocals I heard that you did were phenomenal . The country song recently with the Blonde singing. They were great.

Yooooo. Thanks for the kind words! There is a ton to unpack here. Generally speaking: I don’t ever commit compression on the way in on vocals. I also am careful not to get TOO much color (aka distortion) from outboard pres on the way in. Especially if it’s a lead vocal. Reason being, is that I’m human and I can fuck up lol and compress too much. Or set the gain too hot and then get something that I can’t undo. Now. The way I’ll set up my chains is in a way that I can directly monitor without issue, WITH compression etc. The whole idea with the preamp saturation is to get it to where there’s just enough to notice a little harmonic richness. And then move on. Using the output of the preamp to finalize the level to an area with decent headroom whenever your singer is at your loudest. That said - I think this is absolutely a great idea for a video.
