Great !! I just bought uad amps, cool but think because i have an active stratocaster i enter too loud in the apollo ...even if i lower the volume... Would there be a solution ? @@MELOPSMUSIC the gain on the hi-z preamp should be all the way down for starters. Your pedals might be hitting hotter into the Apollo, back your final gain stage off. @TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 7 күн бұрын
Eeeeehhhhhhhhh. I mean, for jazz, I’d recommend amplitube 5 max. Their clean tones are wayyyy better than the UAD amp sim clean tones. Just being honest. Now the Apollo interface is an amazing interface still. But just saying.

@@TheSteveKinney my biggest concern is recording with latency. I got a scalert 2i2 4th gen. I returned it the next day because I can’t take the smallest latency when playing. If I use the apollo solo with amplitube 5 will I get any latency? Or would you think is better to record and add the amplitude plugin after , just to solve the latency? I really like the idea of the apollo solo to avoid the latency. Thank you so much for your channel man!
@TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 5 күн бұрын
@@lekinguitarrista8445 a lot of people fundamentally misunderstand where latency comes from. It’s entirely from your cpu at this point. The interfaces were only the problem about 10-12 years ago. The Apollo also hasn’t had a significant redesign in about that amount of time. The reason it has no latency is because - when you use their plugins, you are sending your signal into the interface - the onboard processors compute your signal and split it. One signal goes into your daw The second signal is immediately sent straight back out of the Apollo - now if you throw on a UAD-2 plugin, this is also where it’s processed, by the interface and then sent out. So - the latency of a round trip from your mic or guitar into the daw and then processed by your CPU and then spit back out to your interface hasn’t change. That’s physics. You are bottled necked by your computer. Unless you have a way around it. The only ways around it is some sort of DSP or FPGA system or go entirely analogue. So. The Apollo. Antelope. Or pro tools HDX. Both the limitation of the Apollo and Antelope is that they will only run THEIR plugins in real time. There are a few others - but. Yeah. That’s the gist of it.

Hey Steve, great video. Are you still using Luna or did you switch back to logic? Anything you miss from logic if your still in luna? Ive been going back and fourth between logic and luna but I think im going to stay fully in luna now.
@TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 9 күн бұрын
I will never. Ever. Go back to logic. I hate it in almost every regard. Only feature I miss is the external hardware / I/O plugin support, I’m sure that’s coming to Luna, but when is the bigger question. Logic is just soooo hard to work in, IMHO. Id buy a full license of pro tools HDX and an accel card ($6000 investment 😂 ) before I consider going back to logic.

@@TheSteveKinney 😂 I feel u. I’m very disappointed in Logic Pro 11. I thought it would be a major update fixing so many things but it didn’t. After using Luna logic feels archaic and kind of clunky. Luna feels so fresh and full of life with the constant updates it gets.
@TheSteveKinney

@@iamvelour my ONLY downside is that it’s SUPER clear at this point that UA is almost exclusively focused on trying to pigeon hole everyone into their software ecosystem - which is why the hardware insert thing is so painful to me. The ironic part is that it’s almost making their own hardware (1176, La2a) pointless to buy… you can tie them into their OWN recording system lol 🤦🏻‍♂️ … are they telling us we don’t need to buy their hardware? I get it, things take time… but aye.
@iamvelour
@iamvelour 9 күн бұрын
@@TheSteveKinney I thought about that too. Seems like being that they do hardware emulation they don’t see the need to use hardware inserts in Luna. I’m sure it’s gotta be coming though especially if they ever want Luna to really compete with protools. It’s been like 4 years though and I know things take time but I feel like that should have been a day one feature. I would also like logic comping and protools playlisting.
@TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 9 күн бұрын
@@iamvelour hmmmmm. Pro tools playlisting on a track is basically versions in Luna. Now I personally don’t like logics comping. It locks me into looking rather than listening. But that’s just me. And yeah - hardware inserts HAS to be there… should have been day 1. But I’m starting to think there is some sort of limitation with the Apollos as they are to integrate hardware inserts… or again, they are purposefully not including it, so people buy their plugins. Which IMO is a bullshit business practice lol The plugins are good enough that they don’t need any sort of forced buying mechanic… which leads me to believe that their leadership has hired the wrong people who don’t know their own customers. It’s been a strange few years for UA. that’s for sure.

@TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 12 күн бұрын
Metric a/b should be able to load into Luna. It’s just a plugin, yeah? Anyways, all you’d have to do - is create a new bus or track and route it to monitor L&R. That would still go out your main speaker outs - but would be outside of your mix bus.

when I do Duplicate Session, I have no idea where the project file goes. I would like to make a complete back up of projects before I monkey it up. Is Duplicate sort of like Save As? thanks
@TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 13 күн бұрын
there are truly two ways of doing that - so firstly - the duplicated session file saves in the original files same enclosing folder. Which you should always be defining upon session creation. Secondly, inside of the luna's project folder - they have a thing called "versions" which allow you to create completely separate iteration of the project without having to double the project files themselves on your hard drive. either way works. but just food for thought.
@PTFWWDB
@PTFWWDB 13 күн бұрын
@@TheSteveKinney yes I've been using versions but sometimes I just want a complete back up file when things get messy and something gets screwed up as I'm learning. @TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 13 күн бұрын
@@PTFWWDB yup! Certainly could be beneficial to duplicate the whole project file for sure. Do you need their hardware to do a headphone mix? What about gig performer?
@TheSteveKinney
@TheSteveKinney 14 күн бұрын
Their hardware will give you the "ARM" function, which is the real-time monitoring function. You can still create cue mixes, and utilize luna like a daw with another interface - However, you'd still be open to latency, just like any other daw at that point. UA's marketing team needs to either have a come to Jesus meeting or be fired at this point lol there are so many asterisks and fine print that is misunderstood due to the marketing team. lol Now you mention gig performer... 1. define that.. 2. what about it? that's so vague that I'm not sure where you might be going with the question. A lot of people keep their superior drummer libraries on drives like this. I had some buffer underruns when I kept ezdrummer on one of my drives.
