Had been trying on and off to learn this with tabs for years, always gave up after 10 mins and moved on, followed this vid, 2 days later (3 actual hours of playing) I'm playing it, not quite full speed but I can play it! Amazing tutorial breakdown thanks! - side note, there is so much to be said about learning something, playing it a bit and leaving it a bit and letting your brain/hands embed the memory, coming back and going again, amazing how the muscles seem to do the work for you in a way!

10,000% this. I've recently had the challenge of learning the guitar parts for Sir Duke (the instrumental break is very windy and twisty). I find you can only get so far in a session. But come back the next time and you'll snap into place better than you had before. It's odd how we sometimes just need a little space so our muscles can just do the work.

You and Steve Stine guitar lessons are the best guitar teachers ever. You’re so detailed and so good at breaking up parts just enough to push the player a bit (depending on skill) to where they need to practice it. Honestly I would never pay for a teacher, but you my friend are definitely worth paying for. I’m glad you started making lessons, a lot of guitar players would be lost without you.

@@Cris18Martinez Or they are just good guitarists? This riff is interesting because it sounds beginner-level but is actually intermediate-level, it's also a great warm-up exercise. My gosh this is so good! Tip for the chord transitions: Coordinate/ anchor around the finger that stays consistent. Between the 1st and the 2nd chord, that would be be the ring finger and between the 3rd and the 4th that would be the middle finger and the ring finger while between the 4th and the 1st, it is the index finger while middle and ring finger switch position. Simplifies it a bit more

Heres a stamina tip, I struggled for a long time to play it for the entire song but what got me there was not holding on to the shapes. At first I'd hold the entire shape (including the base note which is only played once) while doing the hammer/pull and then picking one of the notes again; this tired my hands. Instead I play the shape, hammer/pull and then just fret and pick the notes again as necessary. This may not work for you, idk, but it worked for me so figured I'd share it.

I find it much easier to barre at the 4th fret for G#minor chord and HOLD that barre for all the chords WITHOUT CHANGING POSITION AT ALL. The F# chord (a different inversion) can still be played at the 4th fret. Hence no need for position changes. If you look at acoustic versions of the song, it’s played in the first position starting with Amin, F, C, G etc. Much easier

I've always herd people claim its "the hardest riff ever". Maybe if you're new to guitar, but it's pretty simple. The speed and endurance the entire song might take a while but I got the whole thing and up to speed in about 5 min and only a couple days I could play it consistently at full speed.
