The Sony 24-105 has become my primary lens for landscape photography over this past year. I rarely remove it from the camera body (an A7II) now though I still take along my 16-35 just in case. And I have always loved your music choice, Mads. You, Simon, and Nick are tied for my favorite music among landscape vloggers. You each create different moods with your choices and I love them all.

Mads I have to tell you … I have been doing photography for almost 20 years now … and in all my years I have never had a favorite photographer that I could name … including Ansel Adams I know as a photographer I’m supposed to love his work … it just never grabbed me … I have seen images I love from many different photographers… could never name a photographer by name that I love all their work … I can truly say after finding your work … I finally have a favorite photographer I can actually name … thank you for such great work and amazing videos as well 🙏

Totally agree Mads! I've had a 24-105 in my backpack for years and it's my most versatile and most used lens. I've never understood landscape photographers who use the 24-70mm f/2.8 over the 24-105mm f/4. I'd rather have the extra reach over the additional stop of light.
@MadsPeterIversen4 жыл бұрын

@@ezustnyar For extra reach I'd rather carry a 100-400 vs a 70-200. My bag always has a 16-35 f/2.8 (the 2.8 only because I can do astro at night), 24-105 f/4 and a 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 for long reach and wild life. For me, it's the perfect combination for just about anything I'd shoot.

One of the lenses I bought with my new Sony after I took my Canon for a swim ( it performed well in the dunking...but it was time for a change) I went Sony with a Sigma 14-24 2.8, the Sony 24-105, and Sony 70-200. On your first video about the 24-105 , thanks Mads, I realized the 24-70 was good, but suprised , while not a G Master, the 24-105 was an option that was as well reviewed as the 24-70, but gives a much better reach and options without having to change as often. Thanks Mads, great video!

Great video Mads. I (like you) have this lens on an A7R3 and it takes most of my photos for travel and hiking as it's so sharp and versatile. With the IS, I can, if careful, handhold to c. 1/3s for waterfalls etc too if I don't use a tripod. Also the longer end is handy for small birds etc that often come up to you on tracks (I live in New Zealand) and due to the sharpness I can crop and still get very high quality images. Also for travel this lens plus a wide angle zoom and a 100-400 covers the bases nicely!

Thank you! I do make good use of my 24-105. But having all of these examples will be a big help as I struggle most with composition. And, yes, I have your ebook. ;-). I very much enjoy your work, Mads. They tend to let nature do the drama rather than overdoing the "lens effects" to the point where things don't look natural. Now I just need to figure out how to apply the compositional lessons to subjects in central Oregon (USA) as we have moved here recently and I am learning my way around. I also have your Photoshop course but to be honest, I do 90% of my editing in Lightroom only using PS for context aware fill. I'm trying to figure out how to use them together and how to simplify the PS workspace as I find it overwhelming with all of the tools and capabilities. Anyway, that is a bit off topic. Thanks again for the tips on the 24-105!

Thanks Mads for your informative and inspirational exposition of the merits of the 24-105. I usually just carry the Canon 24-105 f/4 L Mk1 for landscape photography with my Canon 6D, and this works well for me. I borrowed a 17-40 L lens from a friend but, while many photographers find this zoom range invaluable and produce great photos, I am happy with the 24mm as my widest angle. My budget is relatively tight, but I will add a good quality 70-300 zoom at some point, rather than opting for an ultra-wide angle zoom. This is just personal preference...

Never had much love for the mid range zooms (24-70 or 24-105) usually I go out with 16-35, a 45 prime, and a 70-200. I usually have two bodies so lens changes not much of an issue. Lovely photos and narration/explanation. I do a lot more genres than landscapes so my assortment for lenses have to work for other things too. And I do have more ‘special lenses’ I just find the aforementioned trinity to be lighter and less expensive. I’ve been considering adding a 24-105 to my kit for when I just go out and want to carry one body one lens but then again I put my 16-35 f/4 on a crop if the light is good or my 45 f/1.8 prime on a FF if the light is bad and I’m good to go. Maybe in the future when I have all other lenses I want, I consider getting a 24-105 just for a walk around lens. Tnx for sharing.

I am a hobby travel photographer therefore have to select my gear carefully to be versatile, compact and light at the same time. I do not want to carry more than 3 lenses. I shoot landscapes, cityscapes but occasionally street as well. I have a 1635F4 and 70200F4 currently (they share the same 72mm filter size which is big positive) and looking for a lens for low light city shots (probably a wide angle prime). I am a bit torn if I should exchange my 1635F4 to a 24105F4 and in addition a 20mmF18G or the new 35mmF14GM for low light but then I would loose the 16mm end and would need to invest to bigger filters as well...
