I learnt how to do so much related to cleaning after I came across your channel! I made my own fabric softener after seeing your video also, vinegar and lavender essential oil!!! And I've been doing laundry from when I was almost 13-14, I'm 19 now 😊

I started doing my own laundry when I was 8, and my personal opinion is to train your Kids to do house chores small tasks at a young age (like 6-7 years old) and then they will grow up knowing they have responsibilities in the family, that's how My mother raised me. because we all have to know how to take care of these chores EVENTUALLY so why wait until they are 13? the younger they start the easier it is to get them involved with house chores :) Make it fun Parents!!! inspire them :)

Very rarely have I ever had colors bleed, especially after washing them seperately once after purchasing them...which I often do! So instead of sorting laundry by lights, colors, darks...because of the way HE washers work, I have found it is not only better for your washer, but better for your clothes, if you sort according to clothing "weight". I learned this from my Electrolux repair guy and he said that it is not a good idea to do a small load either. That the ideal load is half-way up the drum, lining up with the widest part of the drum - maybe a little over that. But to sort by weight, I do - Towels, Jeans & Sweatshirt, Sweatpants, T-Shirt/Cotton type Materials. It actually gets your clothes a lot cleaner as well! Think about it, that t-shirt you throw in with say a pair of jeans is not going to get the attention that those jeans are going to get...in the agitation dept that is. More than likely it's going to get balled up or shoved aside because the heavier, bulkier items are going to agitate more forcefully than the little cotton t-shirt. Does that make sense? When all the t-shirt type material items are in a cycle together, they all get the same attention because they all agitate at the same "force". (I'm finding it hard to find the right word, force will have to do). Anyway, hope that help! Oh, and I wash EVERYTHING in cold, except towels..they are always washed in warm with rotating vinegar or baking soda added to the wash to keep the musky smell at bay!

Tina Jackson that is exactly what I do
@mrs_d3n1mx286 жыл бұрын
Excellent post, I do the same and I've found the results to be spectacular. especially separating your jeans from anything that's lightweight or delicate. all my clothing has been lasting So much longer since I started: sorting by weight/fabric, and air drying instead of using the drier whenever possible. The heat and tumbling from a clothes dryer is really just brutal on your clothing... Everytime I clean the lint trap I feel like I'm just cleaning up after a funeral, RIP my clothes, slowly destructed a few threads at a time, their legacy reduced in death to "just lint". lol

I started teaching my 7 year old how to do laundry. She's been wanting to do some chores around the house to earn some money. Right not I have her collecting dirty clothes and sorting them out. I also show her the settings to put them on as well. Right now my husband and I both do laundry. If the hamper is full and we have something we need to wash we just throw in other things too. Although he does not like to separate the clothes which bugs me!!! Love the growing belly Melissa!!!! Can't wait to see the little one

OMG I LOVE LAUNDRY DAY - I get to sit around on the couch every week or two and relax for most of the day, and get up about once an hour to spend 4 minutes changing out the laundry! So productive and so relaxing! Also, who doesn't love the smell and feel of warm laundry straight from the dryer - especially on a cold day! I do all of the laundry in my house since it's one of the few chores I genuinely enjoy, and that means my boyfriend takes over some of the chores I can't stand (I'm looking at you, toilets and dishes!)

I started doing my own laundry when I was 12. It wasn't because my mom told me to do so, it was because I wanted to be SURE that my clothes are clean and taken care of. My mom doesn't sort at all and does everything in a pretty high temperature, and that causes color bleed and it damages the clothes.

Since I live alone, and I’ve yet to be able to train my bulldog to do laundry, I have to do it all. I don’t recall exactly what age, but mid-teens when I started doing my own laundry. Which leads to a funny story. After I joined the Army, the first time that I came home to visit and brought my laundry I got a lecture from my mom about separating whites from colors as my white undergarments were brown. I had to explain to her that they were brown as issued! 😁

I have never had a laundry day. When a load accumulates, I wash it. And I enjoy doing laundry! It's just my husband & me....I do the laundry...if we did it like you two do, it would take ages to have a full light or dark color load! To each his own, but combining the laundry of 2 people makes more sense to me. I hang laundry outside to dry about 3/4 of the year. We live in Ohio. Line drying it makes fabrics last a lot longer...& there's none of this stop-everything-the- dryer-shut-off ! The dry laundry hangs, dry, wrinkle-free until I take it down. Sunshine deodorizes, disinfects & sanitizes as well as dries things free...it's the green way!

I remember the first time mom tried to teach me how to do laundry. I wasn't very fond of it at 13.. she basically had to drag me to the machine to show me how to do it lol, so dramatic. Now at 26 I actually don't mind doing laundry. It's oddly satisfying to see empty bins and empty drying racks (I hardly ever dry our clothes in the dryer). I've mastered the technique of hanging clothes up in a certain way so I almost never have to iron either. Win!

I live with my boyfriend and we do our laundry seperately, and I wash all our towels/blankets/sheets/anything else that might need to be washed from around the house. @antiantipoda6 жыл бұрын
In Brazil we don't have driers. The trick to drying clothes is to get them in the wind - the more air movement, the faster they dry and keep layers to a minimum - don't hang them folded, keep to one layer whenever possible. If you dry inside in the cold weather, I would try using a fan to create some wind.
@merida18346 жыл бұрын
Glad you mentioned using a fan as it's something I keep telling folks to try when they complain about clothing not drying in the house (especially when it's damp outside but not cold enough to have heating on in the house). It definitely speeds up the whole process.

I did the laundry since I was 9. My son does the laundry; he is 4. We pay him for chores that are not “his responsibility.” He is 4, cleaning his clothes is actually my responsibility. But to teach him the value of money, saving, budgeting, etc., we pay him to do things like this. His responsibilities grow as he does. Like when he was 2, we paid him to clear his dishes from the table. It was optional, and if he did it he would get a dime or something. When he wanted a new toy, he would purposely do it more often, because he had learned that’s the way he gets money - by working. (We still paid for some of the toy he wanted.) at 2.5 years old he bought his own skateboard with chore money (we bought the helmet and safety pads). And at 4, he knows he doesn’t get paid for clearing his dishes and his little sisters dishes - it’s part of his responsibility as a family member to help out like that. Laundry will eventually cycle out of my responsibility and into his, but for now he loves doing it, it’s an excellent tool to encourage learning at home, and he loves making money :P

I stated doing my own laundry as a young teen. I'm 54 and just married. My husband does his own laundry but tends to forget about it or leaves for work so I end up finishing it. Either putting in the washer or taking it out of the drier. He has a neck for getting his shirts stained and they don't usually come out. I was 12-13 when my mom decided it was up to me to do everyone's (4 people) laundry and we didn't have a dryer, so I washed and hung the clothes out to dry. Lots of ironing back in the day too. It was also my job to clean the house top to bottom and to prepare the meals. Good training for life. In my marriage, he did nothing to help as that was "woman's work". But when I divorced age 46, I was thrilled to only have myself to take care of. I bought my house and made sure laundry room was close to master bedroom! That's where most all the laundry is generated and it was a good call on my part. So now that I'm retired, I can do laundry while I'm taking a nap or playing on the computer :-) And, lots less laundry since I don't have to go to work everyday, whhhohooo! But yes, pre treat immediately with Dawn. I use the soak cycle a lot to let the small amount of detergent work its magic. I use a small scoop epsom salts to soften the water because I have hard water. I use a small scoop of Borax too. And I always have vinegar on hand to soften the clothes. I have stopped using fabric softener, I don't miss it and it saves money. Love your videos

I do most of the laundry at our house, in fact when I was 17 I decided that I wanted to have that chore over the dishes. I wasn't convinced the he washer was the best for the way we do laundry (laundry day) so I started doing some research and stumbled across a washing machine collectors website, they knew just about everything on just about every washer ever made and I came to the conclusion that an old school wringer washer would be the best tool for our house. About a month later I found one in Craigslist and after I restored it, it has been the best washer I have ever used. I can get 12 loads done in an hour and the clothes are always super soft and get rinsed (by hand) so well you can't even smell the detergent! Now it is way more hands on but with a cup of coffee and a family member by my side it's truly enjoyable to do!

Where I live, there is a public laundry room in the building. I always set a timer so I know exactly when my laundry is done and I can quickly take it out and move to the dryer or take out to fold. :) Also, I don't have a laundry day either really. I wait until it looks like I have one load and then I do the laundry and fold it. It's only one load so I wash and fold and doesn't take up much of my day. I usually do the laundry in my household because my husband works and doesn't have time and I am a stay at home mom. Everyone puts there dirty laundry in the basket each night. Then I clean it when it gets to be a load. I was a young teenager when I started doing my own laundry and washing my dishes.

My best laundry tip also involved timing: the dryers on my college campus ran for a full 60 minutes, which was too long and fried your clothes, but you couldn't pay less for a shorter amount of time. So I started timing things so that 10 minutes before my first load finished in the washer, I put a second one in another machine. Then when that first load was half an hour into the dry cycle and basically dry, I replaced it with the second load which had just finished its 40-minute washer cycle. Got two-for-the-price-of-one drying every time.
@alexbaer45726 жыл бұрын
I do. I make sure I put on a load every day. That I do not have to check each item for stains, my family make a knot into the arm or leg of the item and I know to check. If they forget, the item gets washed without pre-treatment. And if the stain is in and it's your favorite jumper etc. well...... next time the knot is in if there is a stain. At this point I would like to say thank you for sharing or these tips. Some have found their way into our house hold and have made life easier. Happy Holidays from Switzerland.

I used to just wait until laundry bins got super full then spend most the day washing, folding and sometimes putting the clothes away. I love Chad's t-shirt lol . I started to help with laundry at my Nana and grampas house(they did it all by hand including my mom and dad's and my clothing ) Nana had me start helping when I was a toddler she had a washing machine but only used it to help wring water outta the clothing and such. And we hung the stuff . As I got older I helped more and more we boiled the white clothing and such we had 2 kitchens one normal kitchen and one Passover kitchen(the Passover kitchen was in basement) and she use the Passover stove for laundry And the big laundry sink was cement and had a scrub board on it wash day for her was Monday unless something happened like throwing up or sickness and if we we're sick she made us wear white clothing so it be super bleached and soaked in Lysol or disinfectant) as I got older I got to help more 1st I got to was socks then undies then so on then helped hang the stuff. I remember when I was 10 grandpa bought Nana a dryer she rarely used it. I actually like doing laundry n prefer to do it by hand. My 1st job was actually at a Museum named Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village I was a Firestone farm girl from 1800s and did all laundry like that time frame. I miss that job

I have started a new system of not folding my kids clothes (they are 5 and under) and we just throw them in bins/drawers based on shirts, pants, etc. Time saver, especially when those kiddos are pulling everything out and shoving them back in. Also, we keep a minimal wardrobe, so storage has plenty of room in them and wrinkles aren't too bad (they're kids!) . My oldest can put his own clothes away with this system now, and only needs help with things like sheets or stuff we hang (coats, nice clothes)

For me laundry is a group effort. It's my least favorite chore so I'm going to try some of these tips out! My mom had me doing my laundry when I was 10. I thought nothing of it until I realize my best friend's mom still did hers! I'm glad I started at such a young age though. It's not a hard chore and I'm always shocked at how many people didn't start until they were adults!

I do not have a quick wash setting on my machine, but it sounds like it would be very handy. I happen to love ironing. I do it while watching tv.

In regards to family laundry, we each do our own. When my kids were very young, I would walk into their bedroom and see clothes strewn all over (mostly my daughter who would try on several outfits for school before picking what she wanted). So when they were about 8 years old, I taught them how to do their own laundry. It has to be one of the smartest lessons I taught my kids. Obviously, their rooms did not have clothes strewn about after that!

I've been doing laundry since I was a child... My mom used to work a lot so I was in charge of laundry.... So since I was little I hated it the term "laundry day"it sounds like you're slaved for a whole day to do laundry..... I have the same laundry hamper, & I love it, one of them gets full, put it in the washer. I do have a designated day to wash my dogs blankets since they go out very often they need to be wash once a week.

Don't make it a "thing" love that concept! Thanks Melissa! Your tips are always helpful in the busy times we live in. We created out own multi basket sorting system and couldn't agree more that it's a life changing method! My son, 9, has been putting his clothes away for a while now (highly recommend switching kids to a no fold method). He has recently started even more cleaning and organizing tasks and doing his own laundry is a current learning item for him, it's been great!

I used to do the laundry, but since we've replaced a new washing machine my husband took up the responsibility. Our daughters know how to do laundary since they were in senior high and in our household, everyone do the whole family's laundry... if you want to start a load, take care of the rest of the family's laundry too... this is to minimise the electricty and water bills, so your arrangement is very interesting to me 😅

I liked this video as soon as she said to weave laundry into your every day activities as opposed to having a "laundry day".

When I make a to do list I’m one of those people who loves to cross things off so I start my list with a few completed tasks that I can immediately cross off. I also started itemizing my laundry into “start” “switch” “fold” etc with things I can accomplish in between those tasks listed in between those tasks. It started as a way to reward myself with being able to cross off the parts of the laundry routine off as I went. Well, it inevitably started a pattern that turned into a routine that I now have just made into a habit. Something with dishes. I hate unloading the dishwasher, but when I just started making myself unload it so I could do the part I enjoyed (loading dishes immediately so they weren’t hanging out in my sink or on my counter) it turned into a habit I no longer think about. I play other mind games with myself like mentally thanking my washer and dryer for working for me while I do other things. It’s silly, but it works. Thanks for the videos. I really am inspired and encouraged to become a tidy person. I was always a bit of a slob growing up. But I find your tips and tricks very helpful. I’m in the middle of a move right now and living with my sister while selling my house and shopping for a new one. She appreciates what a good “wife” I am to her in helping her keep house while I’m living with her. Nothing is worse than feeling like a burden as a house guest. And I know I am an asset. Keep the videos coming.

I do all the laundry in the house and use the quick wash all the time. It is sooo handy to have it and time saver. I have been all of your tips mentioned in this video for years. It works well for me. Thanks Melissa and Chad! Merry Christmas!

I think it's great to teach kids to be part of the laundry process at a young age and in that regard these are great tips. Many children start working though outside the home at around age 13 and so if that is the case the parent might want to go ahead and continue washing clothes for the child. This was the case for me and I didn't have to start washing my own laundry until I started college.

There is 4 of us. We take turns doing the 4 mains rooms in our house. Kitchen, living room, bathroom and laundry. This week my son is on laundry. We do at least one load a day. Sunday is our deep clean day, Monday’s we switch.

I started doing my own laundry when I moved out and got married. I was 18. I do everyone's laundry. My kids are to Young. Except my oldest we are working on her and teaching her how to do laundry. My husband works very hard! He works in construction so I do his laundry as well he provides for us. And I take care of the home. 😊❤️

My husband does his own laundry and I do mine and my son's...including linens etc (not in the same load lol). This works well for us. Also we only do laundry on off peak times, weekends and/or between 7pm and 7am (Toronto, ON, Canada time).

I started washing my own things I think about 11 or 12. I was so intent on having certain clothes for school I couldn’t wait for my mom lol My boys started at about the same time. My oldest I think even started it on his own as well. Hubs and I also do our own and everybody helps out with towels and house laundry. Usually it’s part of the kids chores to wash dog beds, towels and blankets. Kids need to earn their keep. Especially since they are in college. No free rides here!

You will definitely to use the delicates bag trick for baby socks!! They are silly expensive and SO easy to get lost in other items. I have a piece of velcro on my bag and the lid of my son's laundry bin. It saves so much hassle. I like the idea of doing it for myself as well.
@Zil_Senczy5 жыл бұрын
Fun laundry tip. Often there's one person who will do laundry and others in the house that never will because "they just don't do it right" "my delicates get ruined". I use a two bin system. One bin for items you can't mess up, think tee-shirts, jeans, socks. The second bin is for delicates like lacey things, bras, hand wash items. That way the other members of the household are impowered because they just dump it in the washer and dryer without worry.

I would help do laundry since before I can really remember (maybe 6?), either with my mom or with my sister. It was weird going off to college and finding out that wasn’t the norm and lots of kids didn’t know how to do laundry; even though there was only 3 settings for the machine. 🤷🏻♀️

Your tips are great. I do on avrage a load every two or three days. If i had a family i would do a little every single day to prevent overwhelm.AND having less clothing per person in the house is the best trick. Then there is no massive build up.

Earlier this year (I'm 15) I got baby hedgehogs to care for because they were orphans and sick.. I do this often but I started using ALOT of class, towels and clothes and I learned how to do the laundry and ghat way I could get the load done and dry before I change the hedgehog habitat. And now I'm learning how to do more "normal loads" as it was always 90°c with laundry disinfectant and NO-odor detergent. (Hedgies are sensitive to strong and unknown odors... so that's how I learned to do my laundry and now I want to learn more especially what all the symbols mean and how to organise it as I want to get laundry done faster because I always run out of underwear. So I'm taking it into my own hands..😂😂

I must be very strange. I thoroughly enjoy laundry. It’s not only a sensorial experience: as I use fabric softener and scent boosters that I love, but it’s thoroughly satisfying to see it all clean and folded.

I do the laundry for both of us, he does the folding, and putting away. I timed my wash cycle, and have the timer with me to know when to transfer to the dryer. I do laundry as needed, but try to push all, or as much laundry as I can to weekend days 11AM, till 4 PM, as that is when my kilowatt costs are the lowest during the winter. I also do the tri bin method.

Omg I do mine almost the same way since I moved into my house 21 years ago, finally had a space for the bins! Three bins... never have to sort. Mine are cold, white, warm. Do a load when the bin gets full or when I run out of something, no “laundry day” here. One thing, when my son started getting that stinky boy smell, he got his own hamper and started doing his own clothes! LOL

Growing up we all did our own laundry. My mom has always been sickly so I was taught to do my own laundry at 8 years old. Now I generally do the laundry at home but my husband helps out about 1/3 of the time. He mostly does the vacuuming however, and I help out with that about a 1/3 of the time. We have 3 cats and vacuum 2-3 times a week so it's a fair trade.

Maybe you can do a video about garbage and sorting recycle and how to dump the some unwanted items like furnitures, appliances. Sometimes people find it really hard to throw things away so they keep the instead. Also, shall we throw away the package as soon as we unbox the package? Or save the box so that I can store it into the box if I don’t want to use it? I think it will be a great episode for Christmas and new year.

At my house I definitely do the laundry. But that's because 1) I'm home, 2) I'm faster, 3) I'm picky about sorting/products/temp, and 4) I actually enjoy doing laundry. I used to have hubby fold his own stuff and put away but it's still faster if I tackle it. My daughter is 7 so she now folds and puts away her own laundry and I'll be teaching her fairly soon how to do her own laundry, though I don't know if we'll incorporate that on a regular basis yet since I have a routine that works. I cycle a load a day: either whites, colors, or towels. This keeps us on top of what we have and allows us to maintain our minimal wardrobes. Thanks for the tips! PS - baby laundry is SO cute I bet you'll want to do it. I LOVE washing and folding baby items.

I live in a apartment with a laundryroom in the cellar which all apartments book when needed so laundry days Will still be around and I like getting it all done like once a week. But pre-sorting I do and I am always grateful I do. Including putting underwear in mesh-bags directly when they go into the laundry pile, not when it is laundry day. Mesh-bagging and sorting I did during my laundry-time originally which cut away on the time I had booked sometimes meaning I didn’t have time do it all and get it dry in time. So easy to do laundry nowadays. I sort into two piles: goes into the dryer, or not. Plus sometimes also a third for towels and bed linnen that can be washed in 60 C degrees wheras the other clothes is max 40 C degrees. Oh and I think I got taught somewhat to do laundry at 13/14 but mom did most until I moved out 18 and had to do it myself.

I do my family's laundry, but they all participate in folding ... 5yo is in charge of undies and my 9yo is in charge of socks and towels. When I lived with my parents, laundry was also everyone's thing to do ... at first I helped with folding and when I was approx. 10, I started using washing machine too. For my laundry I would love to have 4-sorter.
