You should cut the lows and boost the highs before compression so that you’re not compressing the bad stuff, and then add another eq after compression to bring back your dynamics… thank me later

To be honest you can get pro result with pretty much any EQ, you can use the Logic Pro x stock EQ or if you want a good one you have the Fabfilter pro Q3 or the waves F6. But as long as you know what you are doing with the EQ any EQ will do the job. And you can absolutely EQ after compression you don't need to EQ first. 😎

@@Moridersmusic I agree with your statement about Eq’s.. but no EQ before compression is just making the bad stuff louder, like boxy and bass frequencies.. as well as hi pitch bad to the ear frequencies.. but to each is its own I’ve been producing music for over 20 years and have watched just about every professionally recognized producer tutorials and have yet to see one that recommends that you compress before you EQ.. js

@@risklessmusic it depends on what you’re looking for in results, some EQ’s add color (change the sound a bit) and others are transparent (don’t add anything to the sound) but your stock EQ should do just about any job that you want it to, with some practice. Just remember, it’s a tool, one tool can do many different job’s, especially after you become familiar with it. Practice is your friend, it trains your ear and that’s single handed your most important goal as a producer

I've watched maybe 40 vids on mastering in Logic. All of them were either waffle, clickbait or just useless. This vid is by far the best and most straightforward. Everything is on point except the obvious that he uses two 3rd party plugins which are free (and he does mention that, it's just not in the title). Careful with cutting lows, if you gonna do that I’d add another eq to make sure the bass and good low frequencies stay in the mix so that everything doesn’t sound so separated. A lot of the low frequencies, in the mastering aspect, help make the track as a whole more exciting.

Thanks for your comment! You're absolutely right about the importance of preserving good low frequencies in a mix. The intention behind cutting below 20-30 Hz is that these frequencies are generally below the threshold of human hearing and can contribute to unnecessary muddiness or take up headroom in the mix. Yes you can, BUT… you gotta be very careful when you widen a mix because if you over do it you might create phasing issues or just simply ruine your entire mix.

To use 'Fresh Air' and 'Wider', you'll first need to download them from their official websites they are both free. For the other plugins featured in the video, you can find them built into Logic Pro X. I use it to spread the mix, it can be wider, or the waves S1 or the waves Ps22 etc , there’s so many plugins to spread your mix, as long as you don’t over do it it’s fine.
