While most series may be known for their main characters and heroes of the story, Far Cry is certainly not one of those series. The Villains of the Far Cry series have always been way more memorable and important in the Far Cry games, and usually occupy the huge spot on the front of the cover. Ever since Far Cry 3 really, there’s always been one big main villain and the one everybody will associate with that game. Far Cry 3 being Vaas, Far Cry 4 being Pagan, Far Cry 5 being Joseph, and just recently Far Cry 6 being Anton. Not all the games in the series are like this though, there’s more obscure and mysterious villains like The Jackal from Far Cry 2, or the duo of Ull and Batari from Far Cry Primal. So today we’re going to be ranking all the main villains of the Far Cry series, just like we did with the Far Cry Open worlds and the protagonists. Keep in mind this ranking is my opinion so feel free to leave your rankings down in the comments. If you enjoyed this video I'd appreciate it if you considered leaving a like on the video and subscribing to the channel if you're new here I make a lot of Far Cry videos on the channel. Other than that thanks for watching and have a good rest of your day!

I like Anton not because I found him compelling. But because of how scary he was. Giancarlo does an amazing job at making villains terrifying not through actions, but through words.

It really should be a crime to hire an actor like Giancarlo and then barely give him any screen time. I’m sure there’d be more development if they actually gave him room to develop but with the story we got, Anton just comes off as a pretty typical unapologetically evil dictator type.

Hoyt needed to be included in this. Whether he was first, last, or somewhere in between, he had to be involved. He is, after all, the actual main villain far cry 3. Isn’t he? We could even take this further and include the seed family as well as citra as villains considering she was just putting you and vaas against each other. Anyways, that’s my rant

@@RedNightFox hoyt was pretty good too. I think he had the most villainous motivations after all, because wasn't it human trafficking he was into? Vaas is just a madman because of citra, Pagan is the king and wants to assert himself. Anton's motivation is money and power and whatever. But to be motivated by human trafficking is so crazy for a video game. I don't remember the game that well tbh, so I could be wrong, but again, thats my thoughts

I really have to ask what people are smoking these days. You're feeling bad about the guy that endorses torture, killing, brainwashing, and more. It doesn't matter his good intentions, I'll gladly be his monster underneath the bed. The only person I felt bad for was faith because she didn't choose this for herself Joseph used her drug addiction to his advantage. It's worth mentioning that she isn't the first faith
@BobCatLord
@BobCatLord 2 жыл бұрын
@@isdrakon9802 it’s about what’s under all his bad doings ( Torture, Poverty Promotion, etc.). It’s the fact that there’s a deeper reasoning about what he did and what had drove him into a corner that gave him no other choice but to commit his actions. Take the game’s ending, for example. He knew what was coming and did his past acts for the greater good and the player was trying to stop this for, what was generally thought of as the goal to establish a resistance. However what this resistance wasn’t aware of was the cult’s reason. So let me put it to you this way. He did wrong things for a good purpose.

Joseph is my number 1 by a landslide. He is crazy, yet he acts reasonable. Unlike Vaas for instance who just wants to see you dead. He gives you plenty of chances to either walk away, join them, or if you wish, fight them. And only if you fight him he will try and hurt you. This is what makes him so special. He just wants to do his thing and isn't bothered by you unless you give him a reason. Also what makes him my number 1 is simply the way he's talking and his antics as well as his promises of a better and easier life if you just accept him as your father. I find myself in the spot of Faith more often in life than not, no purpose, desperate, depressed. Then Joseph came along and suddenly you had a purpose. You weren't a nobody anymore, you had reason to be happy again. What I mean is, I totally get Faith. I get why she joined, why she believed it. Because I'm in a similar position myself like she was before she came across Joseph. This is how cults work and with a charismatic leader like Joseph, unhappy people will join you left right and center. Not saying I would join but I get why people do it. Furthermore, Joseph always warns us about impending doom, the collapse as he likes to call it. Is he wrong? Aren't we always almost at war with each other? Sooner or later something will happen, it just needs one fool to light the match and a chain reaction will start that drags the whole world into it. He isn't a false prophet, he is quite cunning in warning us about future events that will eventually happen. This is what makes him my number 1 villain. Or isn't he a true villain after all?

Sounds like the Jackal. He's not a charismatic leader but he never tries to harm the player. He's not even a faction boss; he's literally just a Nietzsche-qouting merchant who happens to deal in arms. He also has a really cool cancer allegory between himself and the unnamed country and it seems his meeting the journalist changed him (jackal tapes). Plus he gets a "heroic" death or as close as one can get in the darkest and most grounded entry in the franchise.

Jackal always saw the main character as an equal. At the beginning of the game he stood taller but at the end he stood equal. He was a Man of his words, whatever choice you make Jackal dies with you in the end. He didn’t fear anything and his only drive was to simply end a war. He saves you every time you meet with him. Which gives whatever character you choose in Far Cry 2 the lightest bit more special. He also gave a quote that damn near compares to Vaas’s insanity quote. “You can’t break a man the way you break a horse or a dog, the harder you break a man, the taller he stands”. It’s shows his commitment and I feel contrasts very nicely with all the other Villians in Far Cry. Seeing their backstory’s shows what they did and how they did bigger than what themselves expected. What you see with the Seed family, Vaas, Pagan etc. Jackal is the foundation of the Far Cry Villains.

Jackal is the greatest FC antagonist for two reasons : First he's nicely written, introduced and useful, he needs the protagonist all way long to make the story end (you help him pass weapons for civilians, he help you not to die in a desert storm, you finally help him die as urself. He is as useful as you to the scenario. Secondly he's the only one not having ridiculously violent scenes just to tell the player : "Oh look that's the Bad Guy, cause he makes Bad Guy things" like Pagan or Vaas. Ok guys we got it you are the vilain thanks

That's generic and uninteresting. Pagan Mins motivation was to be closer to his step son, that's why Yuma Paul and Noer ruled while he was a recluse. That's way more interesting and layered than an insane drug lord who just wants money and chaos.

@@ioio2216 In Far Cry 2 you had allies/buddies you could help with their side missions. Helping them upgraded your savehouses, which helped with making the game a little bit easier since you could get supplies there like syringes, grenades, etc. These buddies came to rescue you if you were downed in a fight. They also could die during the side missions or when rescuing you, which meant you had a buddy less to rely upon if something happened to you. That actually meant quite a bit in the incredibly hostile environment of Far Cry 2. However, at the end of the game all the buddies that are still alive betray you and try to kill you because they want the suitcase of diamonds you have (which you want to use to bribe the guards at the border). Basically more buddies that are alive during the game make the game slightly easier, but the final firefight will be a lot harder.

I know the video is a couple months old but greg byrks performance in far cry 5 tops vaas. He actually connected to his character and his character wanted the best for the world. I say Joseph and his family is the first on my ranking and second would be pagen min. Because I would definitely choose to eat the crab Rangoon over dealing with the world lol

I went back & played all the Far Cry's again from 3 to 6. Whilst some characters are a bit meh, New dawn & primal there is some absolute bangers! My favourite is Joseph, whilst Vaas & Pagan are amazing as well, with Joseph I felt a real hatred for him at first, but as the story progressed I felt sympathy for him, he just wanted to be left in peace! It was just something about him, whether it be the menu music, the settings or atmosphere it was just something that really clicked with me. The end cutscene at first I decided to walk away (not knowing that wasn't the actual ending) I never realized you weren't meant to walk away until about 6 months later when me & a friend played through it all over again & decided to do both endings! For me Joseph will always be number 1, just something about the writing made me really resonate with him!

For me Vaas will be the best ever. I started playing Far Cry 3 just because of him because in that time I had no idea that Vass was not the protagonist of the Game and I have to say that Vass is the reason that I'm playing Far Cry games nowadays. After Vass I really liked Joseph and Pagan. Pagan with his style and the way he interact with ajay and Joseph for his religious believes.

I do like Anton as a villain but in all honesty, I strongly think it's mostly because of the fact that he is played by Giancarlo Esposito. If Anton was just a randomly modeled villain without the likeable famous face behind the character, I think many would like him even less, myself included.

I think we can all agree that the version of Far Cry 4 would’ve been a more fun/better story if the story was around teaming up with Pagan and battling with the concept of teaming up with him over the legacy of Mohan and the Golden Path. Though perhaps the concept of siding with a dictator might be too controversial which is kind of hilarious given what Amita and Sabal do.

I personally think the Seed family are the best villains of Far Cry, and maybe even the best villains in video game history. The whole family tells a story. It's a story about trauma. More specifically, how trauma affects us, makes us into monsters when not treated correctly, and how it affects family. Every member of the Seed family have been molded by their specific traumas. Faith was a drug addict. She became a druglord. Jacob was a soldier, who was forced to betray, kill and eat his comrade. Now, he makes others betray their comrades and justifies his own actions to retain what little sanity he has left. John was abused and forced to admit to things he never did. Now he makes people confess. And Joseph? He keeps a tight grip on his family because he doesn't want a repeat of his wife's death - a tragic accident. He became a preacher to cope with loss. He became a 'father' to a family he was once denied.

The thing about Joseph Seed that got me was that he won. The game leads you on with him getting increasingly more panicked as he realizes hes up against a whole group of people who dont buy his bullshit. Then the bomb hits and its like WTF just happened Pagan ruled with an iron fist sure, but i was impressed how patient he was with Ajay despite the fact he was bringing it all down. And then there was Vaas, he doesn't give a shit lol

Far Cry 2. I am a person that does not care for power fantasy. In reality I appreciate and am thankful for the successes I have achieved and the skills I have and are still learning . Thus in gaming, I have no need to feel like an invincible one man army , I enjoy a challenge wrapped inside a well written atmospheric story ,and an immersive ,realistic setting, where your decisions carry weight and the story/environment hits you with unexpected curveballs/twists . I want a game to take me out of reality and transport me to a world I can’t experience in real life. (Such as shooting militarized Junta factions with an AK47 for instance) FaCry 1 and Far cry 2 had such hardcode ,complex AI (For the time) and a truly hostile and immersive world where you have to fight tooth and nail just to survive in, your guns jammed at the most inopportune moments , bush fires set by you become a hazard even to yourself, mutated chimpanzees trying to rip your face off, it is epic! Being dropped into the middle of a creature infested jungle with an assault rifle and only one 30 round magazine is thrilling. Likewise , to be surrounded on all sides by dangerous, competent enemies and a raging bushfire that is not so slowly creeping closer and closer as you struggle to unjam your 50+ year old AK47, just to realise you have to take your malaria pills in the middle of it all is excessively thrilling to me. When a game places you on the defensive, you have to fight mercilessly just to survive ,with by far the best healing animations of any game, that is peak gaming to me. When you are forced to use your intellect and wits, to think outside of the box to improvise,adapt and overcome , that is exhilaration. When you do manage to improve your skills , you succeed and you stand all dirty, bloody, cut up and bruised ,but triumphant at the end , that is euphoric satisfaction. And Far Cry 2 has that in spades. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHTIdqmHa52dj5o I desperately want a brutal Far Cry set in Africa once again as in FC2 but now there can be more predatory / dangerous animals such as lions, buffalo, crocodiles ,Pythons and more. With Akasia thorns blocking your way and slowly doing bits of damage that you have to cut away with your machete, still using the Blood diamonds / arms dealing as the backdrop (Since that is still relevant today) as well as conflict over clean water sources . A Far Cry set in the Sahel ,you, a French foreign legion mercenary , helping local Dogon warlords, the Doza ,fighting against the invasive Muslim jihadists would be epic. Just like they are doing today. Using AK47’s, Mosin nagants,RPGs, FALs,SMLEs, Galils and more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mn27pYqnf7l8bpo Telling their story and sending some of the game sales profits to the beleaguered areas. (That is if Ubisoft and the Woke cult therein don’t decide to just keep it all.)

To say the deputy is on the same level is just not true. Joseph is literally a horrible person where the deputy kills those who stop him from stopping an evil person. I don’t know how you justify. The deputy certainly was in a much better light. The villains in far cry cannot be justified, “lost his way a little” is kinda a laughable justification.

Joseph Seed is easily the most interesting villain due to hus character being based on a variety of real cult leader. He is modeled after David Koresh, head of the Branch Davidian Cult (aka the Waco cult), and his cults ideology is based on The Ant Hill Kids, Jonestown, Heaven's Gate, and The Branch Davidians

And Yara is still isolated? Who ruled it from 1967 until 2008? Also, what is poison - Viviro or fertilizer? Does Viviro kill, or they experimented with fertilizer how it affects humans?
