No, lucy's death was not the original plan. The only reason they killed her off is because her voice actor, Kristen Bell, demanded a higher pay, so they killed off her character so that they wouldn't have to hire Bell anymore. Whether it was penny pinching or just being unable to meet her demand is kind of up in the air.

Ac ended in me when they didn't let Desmond continue as the main character. When I'm playing AC4, I just feel like missing something, yes without Desmond. Years later until last year I finally got the time to try Rogue first, but it's not the same again anymore... no to mention the other ACs that came out in this decade. Requiescat in pace Desmond.
@enzoamore89717 ай бұрын
Ubisoft didn't care about Desmond. Once Patrice fully left, they were already desperately trying to get rid of him. They knew where the money was actually coming from, it was coming from being immersed in historical settings. They listened to those people, the ones who hate the modern day sections. The people who already hated the idea they were in a machine, and not fully immersed in a historical setting. They've been here since AC1 by the way. I'd argue that Desmond never got the spotlight he deserved like his ancestors. He was the main character, yet Ezio was the poster boy. All of his ancestors were merely supposed to be stepping stones for him to learn from, but they kept trying to hide him in the marketing. Ezio got three games, which i think he should've never had. Giving Ezio three games made had him replace Desmond in a way. It doesnt matter though, who cares about Desmond anyway? They didn't kill him off because they were bold and wanted to add to the writing, they killed him off because the modern day was getting in the way of their historical tour simulator money maker. To Ubisoft, the publisher company, killing off Desmond was the best decision they ever made. Now you can see they're trying to completly wipe away the animus now too. They don't want to be reminded that they're in a animus, or that they're really not in the past.
@abbcc59962 ай бұрын
controversial opinion but i was a part of that group that disliked the modern day and animus, and i still do. i like to get immersed in a games story and making the story overly convoluted with what in the end amounts to time travel gets in the way of that. i also dislike the ''all conspiracy theories are literally true and are a part of a millennia long battle between 2 secret societies'' direction to history that the game has, the historic parts are comfy and chill but the idea that its all for that secret goal ruins the comfy feel to it. maybe if they didn't half ass the modern day story and it was less fantastical or conspiratorial it would have been a nice addition. remember that the modern day story entirely pivoted around the 2012 mayan calendar doomsday, if they didn't kill desmond by december 2012 it would have been a hilarious misdirection. the 2012 mayan calendar fiasco is not relevant and entirely forgotten since like 2013 or so, the story was not future proof at all, it was forgotten way faster than things like covid. like if they actually had a complete story and finished the series just before the date of the calendar it could have worked
@trinitysxxiАй бұрын
The way you describe Ubisoft makes them sound like Abstergo, and tbh, they are. It's so annoying that people's main complain for shadows (which tbh I think they just use to hide their true colors) is that it lacks historical accuracy, as if the games weren't fantasies inspired by the question of "what if this historical leyend was not only true, but related to a sci-fi conspiracy?". I've always felt like the games are closer related to stuff like Uncharted and Tomb Raider, but we got stuck with half of a fanbase that don't even care about the story being told.
@ethrsag73510 күн бұрын
Agreed, I think we should have received a title set in the modern day after 3 since they made it clear each ancestor was a stepping stone to his own entry into the Assassins. Altair was meant to teach him about the philosophy of the Assassins and the conflict they have with the Templars, Ezio was meant to teach him the skills of a legendary master assassin while giving him greater insight into the Isu with messages left by them for Desmond, and in my own opinion Connor was meant to disillusion the mythos of the Isu and show their manipulative nature while demonstrating to Desmond that both sides in the Templar/Assassin war are just as similar as they are different. Once these three ancestors taught him the skills, knowledge and wisdom he needed, he would have been a great subversive character in how instead of looking to the Isu for salvation, he instead rejects his planned destiny to restore them and turns the remnants of their technology and knowledge to bridge the gap between the Templars and Assassins in a new organization dedicated to protecting the world from the looming solar flare disaster. Throw in some internal faction conflict and zealous members who maintain the worst sides of the Templars and Assassins and it would have been a beautiful conclusion to why we keep diving into the past; in order to protect the future.

One reason why AC3's ending is so unsatisfying might be the fact that the story of the entire Desmond Saga takes place in 2012 and hinges on this idea that the world is going to end that year. It's possible the devs really wanted to wrap up the saga before December 21st 2012 happened in real life.

Playing as him while going through his ancestors' memories gave me a sense of legacy, actually made me feel the weight of history that was once carried by the likes of Altaïr and Ezio, and that now was Desmond's duty to see things through to the end. Only for him to be killed and sidelined for the rest of the series. First time I got so engaged in a story as well, as if it wasn't bad enough. Hello, I’m new to this channel, don’t know where to start. 1. Love the name of your channel 2. Love your new cover 3. Love how you keep the video simple, no ads, no extravagant special effects or so Now my thoughts 💭 Everything you said is true and I couldn’t agree more with you. I personally also love the modern days, and especially Desmond’s character. As you said - at the beginning his story was so interesting and eye catching. I remember way back when AC2 was released how people were complaining about the modern days, that they don’t fit in the game and similar nonsense. I can feel that it’s just part of the game, plain and simple. Soundtrack of each of the title is like from another world = absolutely epic Revelations was very emotional, could have felt it right from the beginning in the menu, to this day I get goosebumps whenever I hear the music. The composer deserves all awards that are out there. Next thing I need to mention, as you also said it in the video, is how emotionless was Desmond’s story in AC3. I felt the same way. It was good, but it felt like it was added there BECAUSE it MUST be there and also to close Desmond’s storyline. Personally I also feel like there was way more potential to his story. I enjoyed every single moment with him. Not even mentioning his facial changes, like even in Revelations he already looked different, which I attributed to the fact that it was taking place some longer time after the events in AC: Brotherhood. In AC3 the change was so significant, but he honestly looked like neanderthal 😅 Ubisoft wanted/needed to created another AC game, yet there is always so much going on behind the scenes, so we can only speculate what was what and why cutting Demond off. Another potential theory is that they thought that there has been enough of Desmond, so “let’s end it here”. I also didn’t expect such “quick” end of his story. Your example with a book in the video is as precise as a sun in the sky when it is clear. Personally I played an finished almost all titles, but Odyssey, Valhalla and Mirage are on my list, yet will need 100+ hours to finish them 😂 Back to this video: I also thought that they deepen the soft romance between Desmond and Lucy. They would have been a great couple, honestly. The problem is, as we learn it in one AC title, don’t remember which one exactly, that Lucy was, to my big shock, a traitor. I despise traitor and I feel so sorry the creators wrote it like this. She was given orders by Vidic. When I first saw it, I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t crying, but I was so shocked and disappointed that she was a traitor. Well, I guess things can’t be always perfect, although Ubisoft could have made it absolutely perfect. I assume they had their reasons. There is no single moment where I’d not agree with what you said in the video. Thank you so much for it and can’t wait for your other projects. Will also check your other videos. Stay safe, stay blessed. And glad you’re recovered. 😇🙏

How I would handle Desmond Miles and AC in general . -Keep 1 and 2 Identical -In Brotherhood, do not kill Lucy, I understand, Bell demanded too much well, ok , you can change voice actors, Lucy and Desmond had a lot chemistry as characters, and Lucy being around would make shit so much better. -He still falls in a coma after getting the Apple though , because, too much knowledge hit him at once. -The other 3 work tirelessly to bring him back , you can have some missions in Revelation were you play as Lucy , trying to find someone else Abstergo has kidnapped like Desmond and bring them to your side too, it's a 6 mission long story , in the end Lucy finds and rescues a chinese woman named Ai. who they were using to access the memories of Shao Jun . -Release Embers so that people get to see Ezio's death and the introduction to Shao Jun . -Assassins Creed 3 : Rebecca doesn't want to put Desmond back in the animus and Desmond after being so deeply connected with Ezio during Revelations he has mastered some of Ezio's personality too , to the point were he is now a natural leader, and much more keen to notice details, more charismatic, he is a lot more like Ezio than the empty guy we met in AC1 . Now Desmond goes in a few modern world missions throughout the game sabotaging abstergo, and killing members. Eventually being captured and imprisoned again at the end of AC3. Ai is used to learn more about Shao Jun's past and develop into another excellent assassin, we also get to live Shao Jun's story , of reforming the brotherhood in China, training with ezio, overthrowing an empire Shao Jun's story takes 2 games to finish. -Assassins Creed 4 : Desmond is used in the animus again playing the memories of Haytham Kenway , as Templar. While Ai continues to learn more from Shao Jun . At the end of the game, Shaun, Rebecca, Lucy and Ai infiltrate Abstergo to free Desmond . And Desmond is trying to escape the whole game. In the end . They manage it and while escaping Desmond kills Vidic. Which sends shockwaves throughout the Templars -Assassins Creed 5 : No animus, real modern world, Rebecca and Shaun mostly do research and Lucy is an one woman army helping both sides , the research and on the battlefield . You play missions as both Desmond and Ai in today's world trying to find Templars and kill them, ultimately you can choose which Assassin to use for each mission , but for the biggest targets you need to switch between the two . The game ends with Desmond, Ai and Lucy having killed every single high ranking Templar. When this game ends. You can make all the money you want from merch and stuff , sell to studios so they can make animated series, manga, movies, tv series... whatever, just take your fucking name away from these, just make the money.

There are 3 big factors that lead to the mishandling of Desmond's character 1 creative changes from the original creator. 2 the fans back when these games were coming out didn't actually like the modern day stuff because it wasn't as cool and fun or well developed as all the historical stuff with Ezio. And 3 for ac 3 Ubisoft tried really hard to jump on the 2012 end of the world hysteria and rushed ac3s development to make it so they could do it

I remember me and my friends discussing his death and believing it was "fake" because we believed him to be still alive. Something like him using a clone with the Apple or that his body is only in a paralyzed state and he'll wake up. Either way, we believed he'll be back in the next game or the game after... or the game after that... and then after that. Of course, he never showed up again. That's why I was SO hyped of the not-so subtle fact that he's back in Valhalla. I really wish we could get him and Nolan North back in the main series, maybe not as the main protagonist again, but make him an integral part of the modern day Assassins. And for the love of God, I HOPE we get to see Elijah in the games. He's "kinda" a big deal considering who and what he is, right?

I also hate that Lucy's story came to a close so quickly. It felt like the start of the decline of the modern day. Such a shame there had to be drama with Kristen Bell's pay.

The ending of AC 3 was my first real, actual gaming disappointing LMAO

I feel like his death kinda felt to me like they would never resolve the modern day part of the timeline.

They actually bring demsond back in one of the later games though, so the resurrection part actually DID happen. You only see it if you collect all of the pieces of a certain artifact or something though, which is why you missed it. Only hardcore fans found it.

While I agree with pretty much all your points, it is quite misleading to say Desmond was "with us for 5 games". Yes he was, techically. But only ever in homeopathic doses, he wasn't your classic main character. Which was what I found so fascinating about the early games: they managed to make the actual main story basically an afterthought while you spent most of your time in what was really just a means to an end for the present day story. It was so unusual, so intriguing but unfortunately they ended up kind of forgetting about that. I'm not usually a fan of modern day fighting games but I would have killed for that payoff.

Imagine Thanos finally collecting all the infinity stones and that’s a wrap. Series over. Close up shop.

Desmond Miles is the heart and soul of Assassin's Creed modern-day story. The modern-day storyline line after ac 3 had become inconsistent, meaningless, and used as a plot device. The modern day was supposed to be about lineage and learning from the past for knowledge that would help the 21st century. Desmond should have remained alive, leading the fight against Abstergo and helping the Modern Day Assassins win. Without Desmond, the modern-day storyline won't make any sense. I hope Desmond comes back and his son helps him and follows in his footsteps.

Another pivotal character who's story was shafted and was reaching an important point in the plot until unity came out and she was just never brought up again. Juno. As far as I know she's never mentioned once except for 1 scene in syndicate and her big story was dealt with in the comics Edit: I've not read any of the comics at all, and haven't fully played the ww2 segment in syndicate

Imagine that, killing off a character becoz of their face model Ubisoft: Oh sorry desmond we have to let you go Everyone: why Ubisoft: face

They really did him dirty just to save the world. I wanted to see more of the current timeline story with the fight between the Templars and assassins, but instead they used his DNA to make entertainment

Warning, Spoilers Ahead! If I remember correctly there was an interview with Patrice Desilets where he mentioned royalty issues with Kristen Bell (Lucy). This was supposedly the reason they wrote her out of the story. Like you, I’d love to see Desmond return. They might have a plan for this since they technically brought him back in AC Valhalla.

Hilarious what happens with Layla as well. i mean Origins was supposed to be a reboot yet the literally just copied her as another desmond. Though i found it all interesting how desmond is descendant of Adam and Layla is Eve now did they plan for that since AC 2? remember desmond was supposed to to find the heir of memories they finally got to 10 games later. finally i think layla and desmond’s stories connecting was interesting af. i think layla and desmond’s stories are finally finished for them to move forward and maybe basim will be our mentor for AC red and kill off william , shaun and becks

I really hope Desmond gets resurrected. I was wholly unsatisfied with the way he went out and left the story in AC3. I always felt his death was a huge waste.

They should've at least made the gang, the main focus in 4, instead of 1st pov of someone we dont know. At least that way, they could've continue the storyline without desmond. They just put the gang in the background again after.

I once thought we will have the last ac game that we really play as desmond that became master assassin to go against modern day templar or isu after he accumulated skill from his ancestors😢

Sad shame now ubisoft just poops put games that are "non-assassin, gender-choosing, armour stat grinding, pretty and big map" games and bandwagons eat it.
@enzoamore89717 ай бұрын
This is what they truly want. Historical World Tour Simulator game with no strings attached. Random historical games that have no Assassin's or Templars involved. Getting rid of Desmond was always the goal, as he tied the modern day and assassins together.

i also really don’t like that they killed off lucy in brotherhood either. the revelation that lucy is a double agent comes out of nowhere and is barely developed. it feels like they wanted to do more with her and desmond but kirsten bell didn’t want anything to do with the series after brotherhood so they did this instead. it’s a very stupid and rushed plotline. while i love brotherhood, the ending is easily the worst part of the game
