The Witcher 2 originally released in 2011. So is the game worth buying and playing over 11 years later? The Witcher 3 is one of if not my favorite game of all time and I've very quickly fallen in love with the Witcher series over the past couple years (even if I did experience the story in reverse order) and so I was very excited to play The Witcher 2 for the first time. Not everything about the game has aged particularly well in all areas but it's a massive improvement in everyway from the Witcher 1 and laid the foundation that the Witcher 3 would then build upon in 2015.

Those who skipped Witcher 2 and played Witcher 3 are seriously missing out on a great story and characters. The RPG system was used perfectly in this game. You can pick 2 diff path for your middle chapter, and you'll get a very different storyline from there onwards. Even the ending and what happens to the characters around you gets affected because of your choices. Even the Villain Letho is a such a badass. It always feels like he 2-3 times better than Geralt as a Witcher. Trust me. Do give it a try. You'll fall in love with the game.

What RPG system? You can rob everyone without consequence. Your character is MADE for you and he’s voiced. It’s just not an RPG. A different ending does not make for an RPG.

I still remember my friends laughing their ass of when I told them I preordered the Witcher 3 and them telling me that I wasted my money and nobody has even heard of the Witcher games. Well after the game released one of my friends bought it and after that all of my friends loved it and I still make fun of them for that. Edit: During our summer vacation we all had a massive Witcher marathon and played all 3 games and watched the Netflix show and movie, we still haven't finished the Witcher 3.

I hated TW1 when I first tried it. When 3 showed up I insisted on 1 again and it grew on me to the point of quite enjoying it by the end. Then I picked 2 and I was immediately hooked. It's such a enormous improvement, I honestly didn't find any fault with it. Tbh, I liked it so much, It took me a while to get used to 3. TW3 Is too overwhelming if you go right after 2. The story move over isn't seemless. If you don't know anything about the books, it's appalling how much focus Yennefers is given right at the start. Like, who the fuck are these chicks, give me my redhead. And the world is so open you get lost in content very easily. There's so much to do, I had trouble finding the will to pick and choose my path. There's no doubt 3 is the GOAT but damn me if 2 isn't a great game as well. I'd even say storywise at least for the first third of the storyline, 2 is the better pick.

Don't agree with one point. Really not enough side quests, not enough monster slaying for money, which witchers are supposed to do. I mean in chapter 3 there is only the gargoyle contract. The games leveling system is too scripted, almost no exp. from defeating enemies. You can run around the forest killing monsters and barely scrape 100 exp., while completing one quest sometimes gets you enough exp. to achieve 2 levels right then.

Not to mention the opening trailer was intense. 2 different branching storylines and game decisions that actually move over to The Witcher 3 and change the game. bought it on release and replayed it before TW3 came out. I would argue TW2 made many things better than TW3 thanks to not having an open world. Like certain areas had such an intense atmosphere. Of course TW3 is amazing as well with the huge open world and so much to discover.

Sorry for being 2 years late... Of course, people should play it according to the sequence... All three games represented how cdpr worked on the games over the years and showed their tremendous efforts... W1 was alright considering the timeline 2008 the controls were decent and story was also very good(starting off with amnesia thing was actually something brilliant to come up with)... W2, however, showed up in 2011 with different fighting mechanisms that gave you control over the combat(I should also say casting signs with keyboard buttons was the worst experience)... The game actually felt short compared to W1...(I think it is the same whatever path you choose between Roche and Iorveth)... The skill tree is pretty much one sided and by this I mean you can go for a mage build or an alchemist build or a swordsman build which felt similar with the Cyberpunk too...If you go for a balanced you probably can't finish up building a tree path fully... The use of bombs seemed realistic in this game... They made a change where you need to meditate in order to drink potions too and you don't need a fireplace. I felt that potion drinking part a bit weird in this game... All in all the story in this game also was very interesting and some new characters were also introduced and you were decide their fate at some point of the game... There are still some bugs to this day which they didn't fix, I would be specific about the quest structures in the Iorveth's path(My fellow witchers will know which one)... And the quest were a bit tricky and fun for grinding gears especially for the Vrans armor and the gargoyle quest... Thus, I would say give it a chance, my fellow witchers...❤❤❤ Signing off...

i would have loved the combat if the dodge roll actually worked more than half the time and the hitboxes were polished, and it has some serious dificulty spikes, like when you fight letho for the first time i think in the forest after i was leveled and geared up and did all the side content he kicked my ass so hard that i tought it was actually scripted to fail the fight

I can run 3 perfectly on my pc on high settings, solid 60 fps. I can run 1 at hundreds of fps, but for some reason i cant get 2 to run at a stable framerate. It goes from 30 to 130 fps and feels sluggish. I also laughed when you said 2 was an improvement over 1.. 1 was more of a hardcore rpg, it was incredibly smooth with very good animations and intricate combat. I feel like 1 needs to be played on deathmarch with the isometric camera to be fully appreciated.

the 2nd game has horrible combat but still has a good story. My brother in law gave me a copy back in the day. Got Witcher III for PC the week that it dropped. I was playing on an gtx 650 ti that was handed down from my bother and had a fan zip tied to it that had to be plugged into the wall. I remember my brothers friends giving me a hard time for still playing at 720p on some old 19 inch CRT monitor. I straight did not care, my mom and dad did not have the money to buy us fancy consoles so I just used what I could find. That seems like a ages ago. . Because it was! ngl TW2 arguably has better graphics than TW3 when it comes to certain aspects. This is thanks to the game not being open world and every area having a huge amount of detail. I think everyone who plays TW3 should play TW2 before. I would even recommend playing TW1, yes it looks dated and the gameplay is a bit sucky (basically no jumping/climbing and weird fighting lul) but the story is pretty good and really helps to understand more about the whole witcher universe. I understand if people wanna skip that one though, you can probably find good summaries on youtube as well. I personally replayed both 1 and 2 back when TW3 came out and again TW2 actually in some situation was more to my liking graphic wise. The game isnt super long and since you dont have to explore all kinda places on a huge open world map playing through it is actually kinda fast. It is a bit as if you only played the main story quests in TW3, maybe even a bit less. Still many of your decisions make an impact and it teaches you a lot about different factions. Like just to understand why mages are hated so much in TW3 its kinda super important + so many characters return. Of course you can just read all their character entries or google stuff or maybe you have even read the books, but still I can highly recommend playing.

This games' fatal flaw : You can't adjust audio using multimedia keys while in - game ( PC ) ... which means if you want to adjust the audio so you can hear better during a cutscene you have to alt - tab, adjust the audio and then go back in. If the audio is still low you have to do it again. I haven't played this in a long while but I remember it has bad audio mixing , some sounds are loud some are too quiet , the speech is quiet etc. Massive oversight and I don't understand why they locked the multimedia keys. Very few other games do this.

I'm pretty disheartened to hear you complaining about there being "too much" dialogue. I love it. I actually wish that the Witcher 3 had a bit more dialogue and conversations. The amount we had was all solid so I'm not too heartbroken over it but it's one of the reasons I fell in love with RPG's to start with. Being able to just speak to people, it doesn't always have to be the most important discussion you've ever had in your life. It could be world-building, or a bit slice of life, where we see characters just let loose for a bit. Yeah, I don't know. Odd complaint. To anyone thinking of playing through the older games: Do it. The first one is rough though. Maybe wait until the remake comes out? But the whole trilogy stands as my favourite trilogy in fiction, ever. It's a spectacular ride and I can't recommend it enough!

Hit the nail right on the spot, started to play Witcher 3, 2 weeks ago, 1st 20 hours (only hit lvl 4), was like realy, how get this game 9,3 on metametric, alot of blabla to NPC, than started in 1st tavern with Gwent (what a waste of time is that imo). Searching on youtube what todo etc,etc, was about to quit, so much info, but I said to myself lets continue, maybe it gets better , ones the hang of it. And it did, now I am hooked over more than 120 hours gameplay, though lvling takes for ever especially when you do quest lower than your lvl, so I skip many side quests, will do them in NG+ , watched the tv Show (love it, but that is most Ciri's fault :), which is far behind to the game, but that aside. But by seeing this video, I will skip 1 and 2, and will wait for Witcher 4, than Witcher 1 Remake.

As many gamers i love witcher 3 and got w1+2 after the 3rd game,but unfortunatly 2nd game is nothing like the 3rd in combat=that is the only thing that really made 2nd game unplayable for me(still after years since i got the 1+2nd game i havent played through them,But witcher 3 have been started and finished 1+2+3+4+5+6 times since i tried to play them.. Thats pretty sad that nobody or the game makers tried to change it for a new generation of players(mayby its to much cost for it to be fixed i guess) Witcher 2 looks great+story seems great too,but try to get into it after a 1-2weeks brake and its horrible to learn it again every time unfortunatly...... Would i recomend witcher 2= yes actually i would if person plays it straight throug and get used to the combat system and other stuff on keyboard.. Thanks for great video

I played Witcher 1 and loved it. I tried to play Witcher 2 several times and could never get into it. I think it's the amount of dialogue like you mentioned in the vid. I think I'm just gonna skip it for 3 at this point. Can you believe 3 came out nearly 10 years ago? I'm just getting to this game on my backlog...

It's a good game but god dam are you slow and there's a lot of busy work. Having to play everyone at dice before you can finish one of the first side quests with the troll gave me a really bad first impression. Gwent was fun but if it was at all mandatory for anything I would have hated it my first time.

Well-produced video, but some of your critiques of the game are going to come across as pretty wild to the types of people who are most likely to play games like The Witcher. At least, before a bunch of normies got into it because of the shitty Netflix adaptation. Example: The amount of dialogue and extent of dialogue options in The Witcher 2 is extremely restrained by RPG standards, particularly Euro-RPG standards. The only characters who have more than one or two lines of dialogue are characters you can interact with for a main or side quest. If there is a dialogue option, it's almost always for a quest (seriously, check your journal, it will update after each dialogue option you select if you have the quest it's related to). Rarely does a dialogue option lead to more than a few sentences of exposition, and all of the dialogue trees in the game that are more than one level deep can be counted on two hands, maybe just one. By RPG standards, The Witcher 2 is exceptionally streamlined in its dialogue, even putting aside the fact that literally all of it is voice-acted so it's not like you have to actually read it. If that bothers someone, then that person probably doesn't have the attention span to play an RPG. They're not the target audience for that type of game.

The Witcher 2 was my first Witcher game, but it's my least favorite as I wasn't as into its linearity and thought the music in the first and third were better. I loved the first game and the third is one of, if not my favorite open-world game, and again, one of, if not my favorite fantasy game. The only thing in two that I liked more than in one is combat, and the visuals are decidedly better. I did kind of like some of the environments in two, but again, I felt it was lacking. I never did try it on Series X... I went through it twice and I can't say I forgot the experience, so I'm not sure if my feelings would change if I went back to it. I remember when The Witcher was, seemingly, a game that had many Polish fans but wasn't too big in the U.S. I had a Polish friend who was fervent about it back in 2007, and I was like "*shrug* Not sure what that is, but okay, glad you like it?" And it was firmly a PC game at that point, one in which I would not have been able to run.

TW1 was my first TW game, but I couldn’t finish it. I liked Vizima city from Act 2, but hated the swamp. And Act 1 was boring and not something I enjoyed playing, so even now I can’t bring myself to finish TW1. TW2 was linear, but more captivating, and not overly long, unlike TW1, in my opinion

@@wserthmar8908 Agreed! I was bored with the first part, it took me months to muster up motivation to continue, then I enjoyed it, but the swamp was mostly a downside as it was drab, repetitive with the most annoying combat and stuttery for me. However, after the swamp part it gets good again, maybe better than Act 2 and is perhaps the most like Witcher 3 in terms of environmental size, characters, side missions, music, etc.

Yes. 100%. It’s genuinely better than 3. Yes 3 is much “bigger” But 3 feels incredibly bland compared to the near perfection of 2. I’ve been playing 2 since shortly after it released. Still have the game box, the little coin that came with it and the map. There was a little Witcher’s medallion too I think. I also bought it again for steam in about 2014. I’ve got every achievement, which includes madman. That is beat the game on insane difficulty. Insane Is no longer technically the hardest difficulty after they added dark, however insane comes with a very special caveat, when you die, that is the instant geralt s health hits 0, the game permenantly locks those insane saves and makes them unplayable. You have to start the game again. You can’t switch from insane to hard then back to insane again. There are bosses and moments that will literally 1 shot you. Honestly never had a more fun single player experience than the insane run. When you get past the bosses you feel incredible. If you’re good at the game it’s honestly not that hard. That being said, witcher 2 combat is A LOT more punishing than W3. One wrong move in the first chapter in the forest can get you wrecked. The groups of enemies are way more hostile than in 3. They’ll pile on you. The combat is also more fluid in 2 when you know what you’re doing. You need to time your clicks thoigh. You just mash left click and you’ll die. The graphics are also technically better in 2, that is texture detailing. Much finer details in 2, and the outfit and gear looks a lot better than 3. However because witcher 2 was so high end when it dropped in 2011, medium or lower settings look worse than W3. I’d also strongly recommend W1. Yeah it looks a bit dated. But it is arguably on par with how good W2 is. The story is FANTASTIC. the combat is much more RPG, as it’s based on the BioWare blizzard engine. But it has manually dodging enabled for good players. The dialogue is also very strong. Witcher 2 also has a lot more subtle references to both the books and the first game. Eg a random guard on flotsam will tell you as you walk past that he knows you, that he was the guard at the gate to the outskirts (one of the guys who probably helped arrest you, lol) All being said. If you want a more challenging witcher combat game, witcher 2 is it. Once you master combat in 2, the combat in 3 honestly feels crap. Also 2 has a lot more lore friendly combat, especially against humans. W3 has Geralt more or less sword duelling with humans. In lore however, Witcher’s rarely have their blades clash with other peoples blades. Witcher blades are designed to be razor sharp and razor thin (to help them manoeuvre it better) They target areas with no armour, and slice. Geralts first battle was during the second war, when he ended up on that bridge, and the queen of Lyria and Rivia ironically knights him after he helps win it, dubbing him officially as Geralt of Rivia. A Witcher’s blade wasn’t made for battle. It was made to manoeuvre, slice at weak points. So too in witcher 2, blocking and countering are considered bad player tactics. Good players dodge, and position themselves to do double damage stabbing in the back. The truly great witcher players can suck and weave between enemies, and literally roll under the sword swings with great timing. W2 also has a way better cast, and the best sex scene on gaming, ever.

All good points, yeah w3 is epic but w2 is a much more focused and distilled game. Triss looks better in w2 too IMO I played both w2 and then w3 back to back for the first time in late 2022, still can’t believe how awesome it was!!
@elyastoohey6621
@elyastoohey6621 Жыл бұрын
@@jamesjoyce5962 Strong agree. Ive been playing the series for a good decade. W1 is honestly the best "witcher" game. In that it is so damn true to the witcher lore, especially investigation and prep. Witcher 2 was such a tight amazing game. W3 is big and broad, but man is it casual and dumbed down. Also W3 seems to be based more on probability outcomes with loot drops. Nobody wants to hunt down for example some rare crafting component for 4 hours trying box after box and treasure spot after treasure spot. item progression was much more focused in 2. You could buy the diagram or often get it in a quest. You then had local ingredients to go and get. Or, the item was a reward. W3 your crafting section just gets clogged full of crap. You can't sell diagrams n top of that the inventory screens are a mess. W2, simple inventory screen with item descriptions and effects next to the alphabetized name. W3, images of stuff you need to learn by heart if you want to quickly access it without hovering over each item. ALso combat in witcher 3 i just rinse and repeat. Only big differences are big monsters, small monsters, then amongst the big ones are flying ones and ground ones, and small ones are physichal oens and wraiths. On those 4 classes almost every fight is exactly the same tactic. The only reason im finishing the game (on death march) is firstly cause i clocked every achievement on W2 including insane difficulty, and secondly, when i finished W2 back in 2011, i was shattered at the ending. That badass scene where Geralt helping triss takes Shilardlr hostage, and then takes on Reynauld in the nilfgaardian camp. Thne to see the end cutscene, Temeria be divided up, and Nilfgaard launching its invasion. Then in W3, for the new players they just kill henselt off, the Temerian factons dont really seem to matter, Stennis/Aedirn choices didn't matter. Saskia didn't really matter.
