I just started a gym . I have a 0 boxing knowledge , and on my first day it was practice stand for a little but then they threw me on the bags hard core n worked my ass on cardio . I threw up but that was on me . I felt they were testing me tho . My 2nd class they had me spar one of the best fighters. I’m 28 he is 43 going for golden gloves . They were joking about how my partner loves ribs and he’s about to have a BBQ . He did go extremely light on me , but I did throw wild punches and gassed myself by the first round . Coach laughed and said “he’s swinging for the fences , he’s gonna be real tired by round 3” . Fast forward a bit and I just did my 7th class . I’m not getting any real coaching , and it’s turned into coach starting to yell at me whenever I throw a 1 instead of a 2 when I’m in the moment which I don’t mind the yelling. Or he will yell about me not moving around enough while punching , but the other coach says “if your going to such at something make sure it’s one thing at a time” I feel I should get my punches down , then add the movement on top of a decent knowledge of punches . I’ve never been taught any blocking techniques or stances , but tonight he had me stationary sparing with someone who it was his first day ever boxing and we were suppose to be doing head movement . He then got mad about me bending my back with my knees when it should only be knees , meanwhile I watch the other classmates bend their backs. I never know what to expect when I go to class . Am I going to get taught my basics like stance , balance , correct punching techniques , or am I going to get my ass kicked in cardio til I can barely move my body . My classmates are tournament fighters so they get the most of attention so I understand, but I know they are going to want to have me spar against the better kids so they can get a free target , plus I’m 6’3 , so they will get free practice fighting a taller opponent. There was a $150 sign up fee , and it’s a 1 year contraction with a $250 cancelation fee . They gave me my first month freee which I thought was so nice , but I have researched enough to see that’s really not special in a 1 year contract . Mats show straight dirt when I sweat and I even told the coach I just showered before coming so I know it wasn’t from me . EDIT: I will add , I survived a serious suicide attempt a couple months back , n I still don’t feel alive really . I’m doing boxing to remind myself IM ALIVE , and to give me some discipline , and some purpose , and I want my body to match my new mind .STRONG . I’m not egotistical, I’m very kind , and I’m a different soul . I don’t wish to “kill” people in the ring , but I don’t care if I get hurt . I enjoy pain , to a degree . I don’t know if tournament is in my future , but I know with the right coaching , I can be something nice . Natural reflexes , nice reach , decent body build with the natural muscles and a fighting spirit hand crafted by the all mighty emself . I don’t quit unless I physically cannot move , and since I don’t fear death , I fear no man or no punch . I view my opponent as me vs me . I’m always battling the mirror and trying to be better , and kill off my demons .
