LOL we absolutely do have evidence that "you" means "you." If I go up to three people, point at one and say "You, come with me" and the two I didn't point at just stand there, then we know that "you" means "you" XD We (collectively) decide what words mean XD That was the dumbest comparison I've ever encountered XD
@Virtualblueart
@Virtualblueart Жыл бұрын
People so easily forget that we define what words mean via using them. That's why words slowly get added meanings and lose older ones as they go out of fashion. Like terrific used to mean absolutely terrifying, started to mean terrifying but also exiting and now has wholly mutated to mean "that's really great!" and lost almost all of its older meaning. And because of the way it's also used sarcastically in movies and t.v. shows its main meaning might become "thanks, I hate it" in a few years.

@@VirtualblueartSame for pronunciation. My dictionary gives the first pronunciation of forte, meaning a personal strength, as tho there were no e. Most people who I’ve heard say it as 2 syabols (maybe because they confuse it with the musical term-and English spelling can be really weird). So soon the popular pronunciation will possibly become official, if it hasn’t already.

Best way to counter a first mover argument is in my opinion to flip it against them, 'who moved the mover?' aka 'who created the creator?'. Their source of everything is also a point of infinite regress at that point. It's interesting how these religious people think they are so smart but they can not think one step further and reach the conclusion we all have to reach regarding the subject, which is "I don't know how the universe was created, or how". No shame in not knowing. If you don't have any evidence to prove your claim, you know as little as me.

Dude, theres an easy way to eplain all this to these guys. 1000 years ago people saw lightnings, and didnt know where they come from, so they thought, Thor must be bagging his hammer. Hundreds of years later we know why lightnings occur. same with this. we dont know who or what or how or why the universe started, so people think its a god who made it.

Oh I wish Peterson would have asked at the end that if something in the universe was tweaked a little bit, would more life exists, if so, then obviously our current universe isnt optimized for life as there could universes with more life, even just on earth. And on the humans not existing, if you change just about anything, even by adding an extra fart 1 million years ago, current humans wouldn't have born.

I hate the question, what/who made the universe. It already shows the dishonestly of the questioner. No one had to push the domino, it could have been chance in pressure, trembles in atomic level, chance in temperature etc. there could be multiple answers that don't require a being to push that domino, same with the universe.

i think his giraffe argument was spectacular if it wasn't so animated it would be easier to follow and less easy to avoid. For anyone who didn't get it, I'm pretty sure his argument is: logic is only based on the constants. If the the constants are unknown then you have no ability to prove it logically. For example the only reason we can logically deduce when a human jumps on earth, they will come down. Is because gravity on earth is a FACT and a CONSTANT. if you cant prove or observe the existence of gravity then you cant logically deduce what would happen when a human jumps. i feel like this argument is pretty good for saying there must be a designer because something cant come from nothing.
@nio804
@nio804 11 ай бұрын
And even then, if you want to get philosophical about it, we can only *assume* that gravity is a constant. We've observed its effect many times and it has never failed. Consequently, the evidence that gravity is a thing is quite strong, making the assumption justified.
