I also love the fact that, although he isn't "a singer", he still doesn't hesitate to sing. Not even 5 minutes in, 3:48 he unabashedly jumps right into singing Janis Joplin acapella! It sounds just like how you or I or anyone would sing it in the shower, yet he sings it into a microphone with an audience and is totally cool with it. He's so comfortable with an audience and he's so comfortable with accepting musical limitations, imperfections, and mistakes, and he lets none of them stop him from just DOING it. He's so "relatable", really.

The first time I really noticed him was on a guitar magazine CD playing his version of “El Becko” (it’s on YT: find it and listen); I think he was the only one on that whole album playing an amp at full volume and utilizing all the inherent dynamics that come with it. All the other tracks sounded like they were recorded in bedrooms at conversation volume.
@livingbeing11133 ай бұрын
@@mightyluv Yep, Paul was know to play at full volume with a very unforgivable tone, that's one of the reasons that separated him from the rest. Shredding fast is one thing, doing it clean at full volume with his tone is a totally different ballgame. Jake E Lee is another that always played raw at full volume and controlled it effortlessly. That cover of El Becko by Paul was monstrous, it was during the ADA MP1 preamp days, late 80s, my favorite tone of Paul ever, so sharp and thundering, perfect for his pristine shredding.
@christiankurtboutot56585 жыл бұрын
What Paul shows in this fantastic vidéo is that before trying playing licks of whoever guitarist you want , you have to "sing" with your guitar, she must become "your voice"....then things get easier at this moment, the moment you realize you re singing with your instrument. Hé shows also the high importance of timing...play on the beat, before, after etc...GROOOVE !!!!!! PAUL IS BOUDDHA !!!!!! LOOOOL He s teaching us the path to follow by "talking" through his guitar.... I REALLY RESPECT THIS ATTITUDE .
@neillalchin15958 ай бұрын
Very true my friend, he is known for his expressing the importance of the element of "feel" in anyone's playing. Mr Gilmour would agree with this completely. Paul is so very important to the craft, I hope that we don't wait until he is no longer here to fully acknowledge that, his attitude is unquestionable, I don't think there is a negative bone in his body and his levels of passion are quite extraordinary, this can only be of benefit for our future guitar playing generations to come. I thank you for them in advance Mr Gilbert, I salute you. NA1974🇬🇧.

Hi do you think Shawn Lane and Holdsworth share the same fate? I mean for us guitarists they're like god but still both of them didn't reach same popularity as other solo artists. Not saying that popularity is the only quality a guitarist should have. Vai&Satriani live comfortably now and despite never know them in person I'm sure they're financially stable from playing guitar. I hope you get what I mean. English is not my first language. And I also just found out that Gary Moore also almost unknown outside guitar world.
