Күн бұрын

Neil deGrasse Tyson was just nine years old when he became fascinated by the mysteries of the cosmos. Today he’s known worldwide for inspiring others to consider the world-and the universe-around us. The astrophysicist, director at the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City, and science influencer has been a powerful advocate for science literacy with a popular television series and the NYT-bestselling book Astrophysics for People in a Hurry. He’s been awarded the U.S. National Academy of Sciences Public Welfare Medal for his “extraordinary role in exciting the public about the wonders of science.” Now he’s teaching you how he connects with audiences around the world.
Learn more about Neil’s MasterClass: mstr.cl/38Ut5p8
In his MasterClass, Neil deGrasse Tyson teaches you how to discover and communicate objective truths in clear, exciting, and engaging ways. He also teaches you his personal approach to communicating, whether you’re presenting to an audience, delivering a sound bite, or simply conversing with friends and family around the dinner table.
In this online class, you’ll learn about:
• Scientific literacy
• Cognitive bias
• Personal and political truths
• The scientific method
• Making predictions
• Scientific measurement
• Effective communication

About 45 minutes in Tyson claimed the fundamental issue with modern education was that rather than feeding curiosity it is "being handed a sachel of books containing information, which you must then memorize, and regurgitate" I literally said that, almost word for word in school and I was told by my principal when I repeated it "that is the educational system, how else would you propose we teach you?" with a smug and entertainined smile. I wish that this was a genuine question rather than a mere dismissal . It's taken over a decade for me to have a genius like Neil confirm my belief that this form of education is fundamentally flawed. Educators can be some of the best and worst people in your life. I resent the ones I had, but not having met them. I learned from their cognitive weakness rather than feeding into it. They will be dead and they will not have pressed their beliefs because they know them to be untrue. I will live on and I will press that which I believe because I believe them to be based on fact.

Dr. Tyson, I have a theory that all living creatures (including plants) are capable of a conscious and emotions. I have experienced communication and understanding personally with plants, animals, and insects. I can see communication in plants with my 20/20 eyes, by using my peripheral vision and watching the leaves/branches that move in sync. I believe that the motion made by a plant with a gust of wind, is the will of the plant and not the happenstance of the wind gust. I wish to speak with an enlightened mind upon these topics to better understand the world we are in. I am a follower of Karma. I send you my best wishes.

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. I’m curious. Is there a master class on how to keep this nation from splitting in half? At the current rate we are going it’s only a matter of time before America splits up . And when that happens these masterclasses will be 100 percent irrelevant because we literally will be multiple nations in the future…….

58:00 if we start bringing rare metals from other planets, the moon, asteroids, etc... Wouldn't that in the long run, and as greedy as we humans are, make the earth more massive and other objects lighter, therefore throwing our orbits out of wack? 🤔🤔🤔

@@rickkwitkoski1976 You got a point there, but never underestimate human's ability to find a way to exaggerate the amount we will be bring in when we find the right technology😂😂😂 If they ever find a way to knock Ceres out of its orbit and make it orbit earth for easier access, I have no doubt in my mind they will try it. We have stripped down whole rainforests in our quest to be "more civilized"

the only reason ppl believe in theoretical physics is to believe in authority. they look at hubble data, see a rising line and call it acceleration. they don't understand what they mean by: the farther out we look, the further back in time we are seeing. this is a word problem. some event we see at 65 million light years (20 MPc) happened 65 million years ago. the 1929 data shows the highest recessional velocity at that time. the same graph shows at time 0, the origin on the graph, the velocity of everything is 0. they are reading their data backwards and call it dark energy, authoritatively! quantum physics and relativity have similar authoritative problems!

In Christian religion it is taught that the Pope needs to be the one you should always believe, Introduce him as such and do as he says! Give at least 10% of your hard earned money to the church! Then sometime in the distant future people will ask--How stupid were these people ? In the distant future --The era of religious belief will end and it's passing will be the beginning of enlightenment. Investigate before believing anyone's remarks.

The problème with science : you dont have time. You must believe. The instruments you use to take measures, you must learn about how they work and what they measure. You must believe in what the conceptor of the instruments tells you it does. Plus, a principle of science is that an experiment should be reproducible, but for that you need the instruments, the time, the team, the money , and hell how the instruments are costly. Those things are not accessible for the common public. Even in universities you have agendas of different people who need the same instrument for their own research, and sometimes or often they fight each others for that. Not counting the universities who don't have money to have instruments at all.
