This was absolutely FABULOUS! Thank you for filming this program, and in particular, this Master Craft series on weaving. Recently, I bought a little $5 frame loom that came with no instructions, so I decided to watch a few KZbin videos to learn "How To", This video is far above a basic lesson and completely blew me away (in a good way!) BRAVO!, to all three participants!! I'm curious about the status of each, and if any or all, are still currently weaving. I agree w/other comments, M's colors are bold & really wonderful. H's work is also beautiful & I think when she is ready to be a bit more bold & radical her work then it will be stunning! And T's work is equally interesting, refreshing, and when inspired (like from his trip), vibrant & fabulous! Also, he deserves Kudos for combining an ancient craft with 20th Century technology! Someone created that program, because they recognized a "need" for it, and that program meets it. The most Highly Successful people will all tell you, there is no need to reinvent the wheel, plus you will get further down the road by using every tool at your disposal, and if you don't the other guy will, and then, he'll get there before you, cheaper than you, etc. Thanks all around to everyone that created & participated in this film, it was truly inspirational & gives one a deep reverence for the history, foundations, skill, and dedication involved in the Weaving & Textiles Craft!

The TV program highlighted Montaz’ shortcomings, but I must say I found her mid program design fabric very attractive (two dropped threads notwithstanding). Holly’s jacket is very impressive. Holly’s final project, the double-sided cloth is the most beautiful, in my opinion. At least, I would rather wear her cloth than Treff’s cloth. But Treff’s piece is wonderful, too.

I loved this program. The students are all so talented. I especially liked Montaz and understand the struggles she was going through. I wonder if there is any way to introduce her to SAORI weaving. It is a form of free weaving with mistakes allowed and totally works for the more creative types. If there is a way to pass this information on to her I think she would find her weaving happiness there.

Was the competition about the colour sense or about weaving???
@freshwaterwi3 жыл бұрын
She came to the class with her color sense. But she did not excell in the skill she came to learn. As soon as I heard her talk about breezing on and not fixing errors in her knitting I knew she'd have trouble with weaving. Errors in knitting can usually be repaired afterwards....that's not true about threading a loom....at least not without a lot of time and swearing.

I understand that it's a copyrighted name, so I really hope Margot spoke to Montaz off camera about the free-weaving style of Saori. Weaving is about precision, but the Japanese Saori technique let's you "drop a stitch" and praises you for the humanness of the mistake.

Weaving and set up is way easier than this show makes it out to be. T am self taught using first observation, then doing and finally a book. I can say that Treff is a natural and that's why it was easy on him and myself.

Honestly. It looks much crazier than it is, but really it boils down to tying warp on one end, threading it through a needle, and tying it on the other end. It's the most important step and it's intimidating, but it isn't hard.

Agree. Way to turn people off weaving! There are people who are more naturally detail oriented and have a process mindset. Process or tedious, makes you a weaver or not.

I was fairly annoyed at Montaz throughout the show. As talented as she is, she seemed most apt at blaming the others for her own shortcomings. Right here, 31:21, she complains about him using software to make the process of design quicker after he's already got the fundamentals down pat, while she's still struggling with them. And she even says as much! Just really annoying. 35:37 And here, too. Justifying her lack of care, forethought, and expertise in such a manner, essentially saying that non-weavers aren't worth the effort of getting the one job you had to do, the very thing you're calling yourself, right. She's repulsive in how she justifies her lack of ability and whining about her own iniquities.

Wish this was more about weaving than personal drama. Reality show emphasis ruins what could be an excellent show. Skipped through much of it. Tapestries of the nobility should have been a separate program as this was not being taught as the craft. The UK has historic fabric mills which would have been more appropriate to this show.

The really irritating thing about Mumtaz isn't that she isn't a perfectionist. All crafters learn the adage that "perfect is the enemy of done" I GET not being broken by a mistake, but I think she takes it too far. It's gone from "I won't let a mistake break things" to "mistakes don't matter".....but they CAN, and until you're well enough grounded in the craft, you don't KNOW if it's important. She fails to respect the process. She rails against "perfection" yet is happy to try to sell sub par product? That's a "hobbyist" not a craftsperson. It's very arrogant, however she chooses to dress it up.

The woman was being ridiculous with this "cheating" shit. This was an unmistakable sign that it was about the competition between them and not about the mastering the craft itself and simply getting to where you can produce a better and better PRODUCT. She's irritated (and envious) of others who do something which allows them to get ahead of her. Classic. Carol Dweck calls this "the fixed mindset" (vs. "the growth mindset") in her wonderful book "Mindset". That's a future communist/socialist in the making right there. aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/envy-hatred_of_the_good_for_being_the_good.html
