Bono was 27 here. This was from U2’s best selling album, The Joshua Tree, their fifth. Very much their commercial and creative prime. “With or Without You” is such a singular song-it sounds like nothing else out there.

One cool aspect of u2 is how they change a song live from tour to tour. With or without you on rattlev& hum tour is performed as an epic rock ballad. On the next tour, zoo tv, it is done as a ethereal, tense, atmospheric piece of performance art. For something a bit more intense/"hard", check out live performance of bullet the blue sky.

I remember that you reacted to this in the past and I told you before, that the Joshua Tree album was the reason I became a u2 fan 1987. The same buildup of the song I experienced, when I heard the first time hearing that album. The first three songs and I felt like I was in a trance, I was hooked forever. And about the band music, I wasn’t able to buy U2’s music in East Germany, but the Joshua Tree album was my first U2 album I bought 2 weeks after the Berlin Wall came down

Hey hey from Missouri. My favorite Bono song. Nice reaction. I like how in depth you go on your reactions. I can tell how much you love music like I do.

Adam slipped in to alcohol for a while, but not not on drugs. he did get caught with weed once a friend asked him to bring for him, but The band as a whole has been very anti-drug. He DID lose himself to alcohol and when he missed two concerts in a row for the first time in his career in the 90's, he gave it up entirely and now is very vocal in word and donations to helping others give it up.

When recording the song the band wanted to make a huge epic ending but The Edge insisted on a soft exit.

I have a friend who cannot stand Bono's voice. She will not listen to any of their songs. 🤣 I like them. I guess for me its the singer of Rush. I avoid their music. LOL 🤷♀

Lol... I have the same thing with Rush.
