Flint and steel fire making is a traditional method that dates back centuries. It involves striking a piece of high-carbon steel against a flint rock to produce sparks. These sparks are then directed onto a tinder material, such as char cloth or dry grass, which catches fire. The process requires skill and practice, as the angle of the strike and the quality of the materials can greatly affect the success rate. Once the tinder ignites, it can be carefully blown into a flame and used to start a larger fire. This method is valued for its reliability and the minimal equipment needed, making it a favorite among bushcrafters and survivalists.

Bow drill: no, flint & steel ; no: jumbo fero(and rod(s) & bic lighter(s) YES! If my life depends on it I’m not gunna dick around with really primitive methods to light a fire. Aa fero rod works when wet. OH, BUT I hear you say, what if. It gets wet or you drop it in a creek? With a bic lighter, shake the shit out of and then blow on the wheel and flint area as hard as you can several times and they work. I carry fero rods and bic lighters in my fire kit 2 of each, in the pocket of my primary knife sheath I carry another, in my pockets I Always carry 2, in my car I have several, in my wife’s I have several, in my daughters car there are 2. I live in a very dry area of Queensland Australia so getting a fire started even in wet conditions is very easy, the real trick is in not setting the rest of the state on fire.

I carry a ferro rod and Bic lighter in all of my kits, but that wasn't the point of the video. It's about discussing and demonstrating flint and steel. I have tons of videos of ferro rod techniques and lighter tricks.
