A reusable rain poncho would assist greatly with keeping you dry and make a quick shelter. I would carry a bottle of water. Dehydration impacts decision making more than we realize.

I've got the recon kit bag with a recon harness. It's my favorite piece of gear. I go on all day hunts with just that. It'll hold lunch, water, a boo-boo kit and tournequit, pistol, and calls. I put a rain jacket in the webbing on the back and between the camel bak and the jacket, it's a pretty nice back rest when leaning on a tree.
@theaveragewoodsman600213 күн бұрын
Sounds like a great setup. I'm glad you're happy with your Recon kit. HPG make some of the best gear money can buy.

I think people underestimate the value of food. It's not as immediately essential as water purification of course, but why not really? Something as simple as an Altoids tin packed with bullion cubes, multivitamins, and tea bags, plus a few packs of fruity instant oatmeal will add virtually nothing to the size and weight of your kit, but can provide a major boost.
@theaveragewoodsman600214 күн бұрын
In the short term, food is a comfort item for the most part. It's not essential like water and shelter

A well thought-out kit which addresses a variety of needs. Perhaps I missed it, but I would add a whistle because it is hard to signal with a mirror after dark. In my first aid kit I would also add some water purification tablets, a few small fish hooks, a needle, & dental floss which can serve as fishing line or sewing thread. These would add only a few ounces. Thanks for a very meaningful presentation, & may God bless you!

I started with a water bladder pack, lol now it's twice as big! LOL Cordage 100ft w/bic lighter, cutting tools, poncho, bevy bag, automatic water filter with another container that i can warm water up and it's a water filter too, fire starter kit, pill box, med kit. Learning different ways of using everything i have in this pack, in a GHB,INCH, or just survival pack is the best part, the more knowledge you have in using less and less tools of survival, you'll have a better chance in staying alive in any situation. Now am working on just using three or four things i can take into any terrain to live off of. My God it's a game changer. If you can hunt to keep yourself feed and clothed, or make things to filter water to keep yourself hydrated and clean, then build things to keep yourself sheltered and protected from the weather, and make meds out of planets and keep your energy up all while surviving. Your doing good.

I think watching the Walking Dead is a great example of living off the grid! Just saying LOL Back to the basic, KISS. and living with what you can scavenging(Search and Collect) and if everyone is doing this where you're at, it's going to get worse than you think it is, I think it would be better to think about living truly off grid not relying off of electrics and guns unless you have a lot of gun powder and have the tools to do lots of reloads. If you can get down to the off grid style of using homemade bows and arrows, sling shots, Crossbow and knowing how to make them you'll be better off, plus fishing using what is available to you, learn how to fish without tools, same goes with hunting too. Dead man falls idea for hunting big game, then having long staffs and homemade ladders and knifes to get down to the game to clean and cook them, another thing i didn't see was game bags but there was garbage bags that you could use for them, just have to clean it out by a lake or pond then hang them to air out. Making clothing out of skins, learning how to use the whole animal not just taking its life to have the meat. bones for knifes, fishing hooks, handles for tools. etc. Solar is a game changer for electronics though. I like watching these videos from different people it always reminds you of something or gives you another idea of what to take or not take with you. Remember an ounce is a pound and a pound is pain. Two is one and one is none.The more knowledge you have doing something the better off you'll be later.
