In the video I mention "f16 and be there". As someone mentioned in the comments it is "f8 and be there". I had f16 on my mind for some reason.

I think that people use too large apertures rather than too small, nowadays. Almost every single photo from large sensor cameras, published in the internet (excluding landscape photography) are “bokeh shot”. Portraits, nature, macro etc are nearly always the same main theme - I bought a new super bright lens and that’s how it blurs the background. Composing pictures with large depth of field is very challenging.

In the wedding business that is true for many. Once they get a nifty 50 1.2 they shoot so much at 1.2 that it it nuts!

Thought it's f/8 (not f/16) and be there in the film days. Somebody correct me, if I'm wrong. Cheers.

Me watching this with my kit lens that only goes down to f/5.6 at 50mm (ff equiv) focal length, sobbing.

You can still do a lot with a kit lens. I have seen some amazing work from people with a kit lens by having the subject further away from the background then someone with an f1.2
