Hi, it sounds quite like Barry Harris with a modern twist :) I would definetely look for the pdf, thanks! I take the opportunity to ask for the use of minor 9ths. In your Rootless Voicings set, the recommended voicings for minors is 9ths if I recall correctly. But recently I read a lot about not using them (Jeremy Seskind the latest one). I suppose it is for the contiguous notes that crash against each other. But to me they are not so disonant. Could you comment on your view about it?

Anything a b9 above a chord tone creates too much tension. Only dominant chords like b9 intervals. But if what you want is tension, then b9's will give you that for sure.

I’m working on step 6 and am curious about the theory behind the second bar in each progression. Specifically going from a 7th with a 9th and 13th to b9 and b13 on the way to the C6. I love how it sounds. I recognize a lot of these chords from your Essential Voicings course but haven’t stumbled onto this yet. Do you have a video that talks about that move? Or can you just describe the rules?

You can always borrow from minor. We discuss that move on many of our harmony videos. b9 b13 is from the minor mode.

Huge oversight on your part to not mention Barry Harris in your explanation. At least I hope it's just an oversight. As instructors we should always be sure to give credit where credit is due. Please consider this for the future.

It wasn’t an oversight, we did not study with him or know he’s method and concepts in detail, I have no idea if that’s the way he taught these voicings, and we didn’t want to use his name as click bait to attract more views. But I think you’re right, we should’ve at least mentioned that in the video. I know he calls the major Bebop scale something different, and he did use it a lot in his teachings. Please send me a link to some nice videos so I can study his concepts and make a proper video about his method. Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry to be dull but would you PLEASE make a short video for members showing how to find the .pdfs for a particular lesson, such as this one today? After much struggling I have stumbled into the “membership tab” (but doubt I could find it again), and even when I click on it I can not find the pdf for today’s lesson (and rarely for previous lessons).

I did look at that part of the video, and I have no idea how to get to what is shown on the (tiny) iPhone screen. Please make a short video explaining exactly how to get to the membership page using either iOS or via a web-browser, and then how to find each lesson (that is available based on membership status) and then the .pdfs for that lesson. Your material is just excellent. But other than when a new announcement comes out, I just can not find my way to previous material. Again, sorry to be dull, but I expect I’m not the only one who is somewhat lost with accessing the lessons.
