IIRC the technic hole + plate technique is illegal because the connection points are imperceptible misaligned, putting stress on the plates. But it's legal if you only have one connection point, e.g.if you used jumper plates

I searched up your reason because i as well couldn't remember and yes you are partially correct. Anything longer than a one by one is illegal for the reason you stated

The technique you are using to put the underside of bricks towards the exterior of the building might actually be "illegal" as it could put too much stress on the bricks. However, there is a really simple alternative to this, which is to just use the back side of those headlight bricks. The square hole here is made for studs to fit perfectly.
@aljazslemc95698 ай бұрын
Was thinking the same thing. Gets trickier when you need to offset the brick for the top bit of detail. You'd have to add a jumper, which effects the dimensions. Of course rotating the headlight so that the bottom faces out fixes that but then your plates stick out different amounts... you could use clips and bars... so many options if you really wanted to do it... but this isn the cheapest and most structurally sound
@MrJoeyWheeler4 күн бұрын
When I saw it I thought it was just going to be headlight bricks. That was the obvious, non-"illegal" equivalent that came to mind. Plus, you could put plates on the front of the headlight bricks for additional structural reinforcement.

I hate when people say illegal building techniques. If it works or fits it’s fine. LEGO is about being creative and that’s exactly what you are which is why this build is so amazing. Those it’s illegal people need to go back to building sets by instructions and leave the creative builds to people like you. ;)

Im pretty sure illegal building techniques are only illegal because they put stress on the bricks which may ruin their quality and longevity. But, if you're not planning on reusing the bricks then i don't see an issue! Such a cool build!
@greymanpl8 ай бұрын
In some cases it's extreme stress, you can see that these technic bricks do not even line up - the distance between the wholes is not equal to the distance between two studs.

@BflyBricks8 ай бұрын
It's such a nice design, a real honor for the building. The technic brick to me is not illegal, its such a daft term anyway. The only thing I find sort of illegal is when people use flex tubes inside stuff to clip on and it doesn't really fit or comes loose. We should always try to build things that aren't so flimsy , but again calling it illegal is stupid . The wedge plates have been used by lego many times and even the hinged brick connections have been used by them for star destroyer designs in the past, although I appreciate your design does put a bit of pressure on the bricks . Its a real masterpiece though mate , love it 😍
@aljazslemc95698 ай бұрын
Illegal in this and many others refers to connections that can damage your pieces over time. Many techniques were "illegal" and are now common due to improved moulding. For example clip and tile connection.

So according to the Lego group you are using an illegal technique. The modified plate 1x4 with 2 studs cannot be plugged into more than 1 technic hole. You have it plugged into 2 holes one on each of 2 bricks. You can see the misalignment of the bricks meaning it is under stress at 1:15 on the video. I mean no disrespect but Lego does categorize that as illegal for now.
@no_drama_wanted_here8 ай бұрын
Just as an update one single stud into a technic hole is legal. More than 1 into multiple holes is illegal.

Connectings studs to the holes of a Technic brick is in fact an illegal building technique because it puts stress on the parts. There is a way to achieve the same effect in a "legal" way - Lego did that in the Police Station Modular. 😀
