WHAT CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT LEGO ARCHITECTURE SETS....

For a long time when I got back into LEGO I didn't have a care in the world for LEGO Architecture sets. Over time as I have been getting into LEGO more and more I have tried to keep my options open if you know what I mean. I would peek at them in the stores but would never buy it, that held true all the way up until my wife bought my first sets for me of the Architecture line.
Needless to say... I'm a fan of them now. I don't know how many I will buy or collect but after building them it has changed my perspective.

Back when Architecture was first released, it was always a theme I wanted to collect but just couldn't afford. I rather liked how minimalistic the landmarks were. However, at that time, they were very overpriced. About 20 USD for replicas of American skyscrapers that had around 50 pieces max. For years, I had committed to other themes already, so I had no interest in even dabbling into Architecture. I forget what compelled me to visit the theme in 2019, but I'm thankful I did. As you said, the skylines are very charming and addictively collectible. My favorites are the Venice and Shanghai models. But I just love the landmark sets. I was lucky to get the Great Wall of China and US Capitol before they retired. I'd still love to get models like the Guggenheim and Trevi Fountain one day, but those prices are out of the question as is. I am glad you have found appreciation in the theme, and have memories to share with the sets.

I bought my first architecture set back in 2019 while I was on a vacation at the USA. It was the San Francisco set. Totally fell in love with it. It surprises me to see all the little details they put into the set based on the real life San Francisco. Now I just got the Tokyo skyline and is saving for the Singapore one. Update: Bought the Singapore last month and it was awesome

True, San Francisco is really detailed. I have Singapore and it has many details as well. Tokyo, San Francisco and Singapore are in my opinion the best ones so if you already bought it you have a good collection

I'd like to see Lego do some smaller places too, instead of just city scapes. Like the Cotswolds here in the UK, or maybe even something linked to history like the Southampton Docks, with a mini titanic. The Dark Hedges in Ireland for the botanical collection would be awesome too!

Lego architect Shanghai skyline was the first that got me into Lego. I especially like the skyline series more than the single building/landmark ones because they give more variable builds and like a miniature of the city.

HONG KONG. One of the largest and most renowned waterfront skylines, a lot of tall distinctive towers, so many landmarks and icons. The central HK skyline is itself more or less a strip which fits the lego skyline format perfectly. Plus you have the mountains as the backdrop to the whole skyline. If there's ever a city the lego skyline format can represent perfectly, imo it's gotta be HK. Other than that Moscow, Melbourne, Barcelona, Istanbul Taipei Beijing Los Angeles should also make good sets, among the others you mentioned (Toronto Rio eg). Btw these skyline sets were what got me back into lego. Always been a bit of a city nut so when a friend told me to try out lego, the skylines were naturally my go to. Started off with San Francisco, thought one would be enough. Little did I know how many more I'd have a year later :D

One of my first sets since I got back into lego was the latest Architecture empire state building. It's still one of my favorite sets, exceptionally sturdy and extremely interesting build. There's not many sets I can say have all 3 of those aspects for me

The Lego Architecture set that blows me away is the Falling Water House. The way they incorporated the building in with its surroundings highlights how incredibly the building blends in with its environment. It is also cool how each floor lifts off for interior viewing. The only down side is the lack of color variety. The stonework could have been a combination of reddish brown, dark tan and dark bluish grey plates. The landscaping could have had more variety of greens also. If they ever decided to build a larger scale set I would be there credit card in hand on day 1!

I like to put the architecture skyline sets in the background of my city, creating a deeperlook than there is. Especially a bunch of skyscrapers can really give an impression that there is a big city center in the distance.

I've been a fan of architecture since coming out of my 2.5 decade long dark ages, I was fortunate enough to find Venice and Berlin in a toy store a couple years after they had retired but I sold them a couple years ago for 4 x what I paid for them, I'm a little "bitter/sweet" about that decision but 🤷🏻‍♂️ I'm particularly fond of the earlier, more simple designs but I missed out on them, I've got all skylines since ~ 2018, and a few of the individual building sets but all are unopened in the cupboard. I've pieced together falling water and I'm currently doing the Marina Bay Sands and thinking about the Robie House.. it's a great line.

Yeah, interesting thoughts. I must say I myself have kept away from the Architecture sets. They do look very..simplistic on the box art..I get they look better in person..and also, I don't want to collect something where I can not get all of it. If I had to get the old architecture sets, it would cost far more than the sets seem worth to me. However, if LEGO did as they were supposed to do and make a friggin Copenhagen skyline, I would deffo get it :)

Here in Toronto we say Torono, so you said it right the first time lol. CN Tower, Sky Dome, City Hall, Royal Ontario Museum, Yonge/Dundas Square, Fairmont Hotel, would be musts in a skyline architecture set.

Funny, the thing that got me on board with the Architect line wasn't an architecture set. I got really excited with the Mini Modular set. Seeing building that small with that detail got me interested in trying an architect set or two. So I picked up the Space Needle. I haven't got into the skyline sets. I've also picked up one or two more since the Space Needle. And yeah, it is hard to get rid of the boxes for these sets since they are much nicer than your average set.

DO NOT get rid of the space needle box. It has been retired for almost 7 years so it will be worth a lot of money. I bought it for 100 bucks off of Amazon and stupidly threw away the box, but kept the instructions. That was about a year and a half ago and it has doubled in price

Here I just bought and built Singapore and it feels good to have Marina Bay Sands that doesn't cost a fortune. As far as what I have, I have Chicago, San Francisco, Paris and Vegas (along with Singapore). As far as cities I'd like to see, well I agree with Rio de Janeiro but also I'd like to see L.A., Philly, Beijing, Moscow, Miami and possibly Atlantic City.

I really like the current Empire State Building set and wish there were more like this. By that I mean, more sets in which you get to build a large, detailed, sturdy, reasonably large scale version of famous buildings. The Colosseum is the only other one that falls into this category at the moment but it's $$$$. In the past, there was a whole range like this which fetch high prices nowadays so why don't they carry on? . The Chrysler Building would be amazing, for example.

I have all the Lego skylines , definetely get Lego Paris ( still affordable ), Shanghai if you can find it , and San Francisco. Best skylines for me is Paris and Tokyo though. Enjoy them its a really cool building experience and great display pieces next to each other or on ligthted box shelves ;-).

to be honest as a adult lego collector as well i started to get more selective when it comes to whats its I want for whatever reason. because of space or can connect to the theme etc. as for the architecture sets I do have some. not may favorite theme. been awhile since i bought one but have a few. my first one was big ben. have the statue of liberty. venice and Berlin.

Hi very nice video. With potential future skylines I agree with you with Toronto but Rio de Janeiro and Cairo unfortunately no and its because if you look at all skylines that have been released they are only cities from continents of North America, Europe and Asia+Australia.They never released skyline from south america or africa because they think it would not sell well maybe and with Rio they cant make statue of Jesus Christ because its in their lego policy no religious symbols so they would have to cut down Jesus statue from skyline if they would wanted to make but it would look weird without statue it is one of the city symbols so thats why they are avoiding Rio in my opinion. And I also have my potential skylines in every continent they could make they are: for north america i see Los Angeles, Miami, Washington, Toronto. For Europe Amsterdam, Rome, Brussels, Barcelona, Vienna and for Asia: Seoul, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Bangkok i would wrote Hong Kong and Taipei too but they cant make them because China would not like it i assume so it could mean that they can make more chinese cities like Shenzen,Tianjian utc and as I said for South America and Africa i dont think it will change with new set any time soon unfortunately i would really like to see machu picchu landmark architecture set. I wrote this comment as a lego employee in czech republic so i really understand lego i did my research to understand lego as a whole and especially architecture theme. Toronto? So boring...maybe because that's where I live but I can see the appeal, although the CN tower is highly overrated. Nothing to do there unless you are willing to have a very expensive dinner. Than it's worth it only because the restaurant rotates. By the time you finish dinner, the restaurant has done a complete 360 but the food is not that great. You're just paying for the views.
