I’ve been working as an analyst at a private wealth management firm in India for the past three months. I'm a fresher, I’m want to work as a hedge fund analyst in the USA. Would pursuing an MS in Finance be a good option? Additionally, what skills should I focus on developing, and what timeline should I realistically aim for to achieve this goal? What may the pathway look like. Quick background: 22 y/o, graduated with a compsci degree few months back, will take CFA L3 in Feb '25, used CFA to break into finance.

Continuing on the confusion between investment banking and fund management as a 22yo, do you think I can delay this decision by taking up a “common” job like equity research? Should it be a buy-side company or sell-side company?

hello utkarsh,Do you believe in having a concentrated portfolio with stocks of only 2-3 sectors and completely mastering those sectors rather than keeping a safe diversified portfolio which includes all the sectors

Been working at an Independent Research Analyst firm for 2 years. Confused about whether to go in buy side or sell side. What are the general expectations from candidates with 2 years exp. in both kind of companies? which side involved more travelling and networking opportunities? Also wanted to know What side doesn't demand more working hours so that I can work on my side hustles also. Thanks.

Hi Utkarsh, I took a few attempts in completing L2, this was because of bad basics. I'm planning to give L3 in Feb 2026 and practice well to complete it in one short... I'm planning to start from March 2024 . I'm not that good in L1 portfolio mgmt, in fact I have forgotten most of it. I am planning to take private wealth as my elective .. is there anything I can revise from now to march..to help..L3. I struggled with derivatives ( BSM part) as well . In general in good with equity and fixed income but find portfolio mgmt a bit difficult

Hi sir, I'm currently doing my CFA L1 and i want to become an entrepreneur. And the reason I took CFA is because I like finance and in the future i want to start something on my own in finance. But the question I have for you is finance is a very hard niche to start a business on, so do you have any recommendation of the type of business which is relatively easier to start and what are some of the jobs i should opt for to increase my skill set to start my entrepreneurship journey.

Hi Utkarsh , I have recently cleared L2 (20 year old) took up a job in boutique investment banking advisory firm where my job is to prepare pitch decks and financial models of the startup who are looking to get funding where I also happen to interact with the startup founders. My whole firm consist of 10-12 people . I feel that my learning curve is not growing in the firm and the Financial models are not comprehensive . should I stay a bit longer or start looking for other opportunities?

I have never read an annual report before but now need some tips on how to get started. Can you recommend: A. Any specific sectors/stocks that can be easily understood as a beginner? B. The way to read it? Do I read it from first page to last page like a normal book? C. How to deal with the PnL, BS and CF section?
