The fiasco these days is that no one pays enough for a painting to make a living from it. There is a vanishingly small elite of artists who are very popular. Millions and millions of artists cannot live from painting. In the past, before there were printing presses and tv stations, paintings were much more popular. Today, people are considering whether they should rather hang up a painting or a flat screen tv. Most of the time it will be a TV screen.

Tell me about it! A few days ago a person at my worship center is asking me to paint something for their car to make a bumper thing and I told them that it was going to be at least 50 $60 because of the labor and supplies and he said it was too much and I told him if you want something that’s $20 go to Walmart. I’m an artist and I need to be paid for my time and effort and if you can’t pay me for what I’m worth then I’m not gonna deal with you.

You’re referring to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Before the Renaissance art was created exclusively for the benefit of the wealthy merchants, the church and royalty. Today’s digital explosion of artwork means millions of people can enjoy incredible works of art. A democratization, if you will. Plenty of people are making good money for their artwork, just not in the traditional way.

Dear Dominika, thank for your question, I use Aerosol varnish for this type of painting, first layer of Metallic aerosol varnish on the silver and after a normal varnish on all the painting.

Hi Rachelle! Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad I could inspire you. As for your question, when I have a piece with metallic elements that also needs a matte finish, I usually go for a clear matte varnish. You can find it in most art supply stores or online. It will give your piece a protective layer without altering the metallic texture. Just make sure to read the instructions carefully and apply it in a well-ventilated area. I hope this helps!

It's always better to paint on gesso, so texture or canvas will not appear, but is possible of course to not use it if you want
