Mastering the Beast: Running Long Hood Forward in Run 8

The "You just ran a red" is a bug when running LHF - the game trips the signal as soon as the rear of your loco (which is acting as the front when LHF) as soon as it passes the tower, but the game probably checks the short head for the "you ran a red" warning. This happens in other routes too.

That must be relatively new. I ran lhf on a local, in a vid, a few years ago and never saw that issue. Thanks for the heads up!

NS had some SD50s or 60s that definitely had controls only on the conductor side. whole setup was awkward to run..

I was thinking I saw a pic somewhere of an NS SD60 with it on the conductor's side. It looked really odd for sure.

I think Otto automatically assumes you are running short hood forward hence him not giving you a light at the beginning of the video. To combat that I think you can set the reverser to the direction of travel you want to go then call Otto and he will give you a light even if you are running long hood forward.

That totally makes sense. I guess he has to figure out what way you are heading for sure before giving that light. I'll test out the reverser sometime. Thanks for the tip!

I think it's possible to disable the "conductor" from options, then you should be able to jump in the front conductor seat and have good rearward view to avoid having to move viewpoint always when switching sides Edit: in train menu, at the bottom, there's crew avatars where you can disable rent-a-conductor. Then you can jump between sides and have better view
