Hi Drewski! The reason those speed brakes on the F-16 kept closing was due to the landing gear being down, they're designed to reduce the angle of opening to reduce the chance of contacting the runway during the flare or during aerobraking

F-16s arent made really for air-to-ground. While they can be used for it, they were mainly made for air-to-air combat. The F-18 is very heavily made for multi-role combat though, with it being carrier-operable and capable of very heavy loads and long flight times. But yes, they would be triggered. gosh I wrote a lecture

@Matti05033 жыл бұрын
Hey Drew, I like to nitpick stuff, especially when it comes to the hornet in DCS so I took the freedom to disguise my nitpicks as constructive criticism ;) 0:15 - Proper takeoff technique involves gently pulling aft on the stick at nosewheel liftoff speed, and holding 7-9 (12-14 for AB) degrees of pitch until the MLG lifts off. Use 140kts ish if you don’t want to calculate. 0:30 - Ensure you are out of burners by 230kts otherwise you will overspeed the landing gear as observed. 2:31 - ADV (Advisory line, Left DDI): P/INS: This indicates that GPS is available and the INS knob should be turned to IFA. 2:31 - BIT page: Press STOP on OSB 10 to stop the BIT Failures from flashing. This will also make the BIT Advisory disappear when it appears. 2:35 - formation lights during daytime will make you far more visible for the enemies too, you won’t need it since your wingman can see you just fine. 3:03 - You should always have a Bingo Fuel State set. A Bingo is about how much fuel you should need to get from the AO back to base with fuel to spare. (As you did on the second flight) 3:23 - Your Countermeasure dispenser switch is in the off position, as indicated by the crossed-out ALE-47 with OFF underneath it on the EW page. Put the switch into ON to use the pre-programmed programs or put it into BYPASS to dispense 2 Flares or Chaff depending on which direction you push the Countermeasure switch. 5:35 - If you’re planning on using the HARMs in TOO mode, you should always already have TDC priority assigned to the HARM format otherwise this might delay the shot by critical seconds. (You did realize this just one shot later). 7:11 - SCS into the HUD will send the radar into AGR making you able to range targets (the rough range is done by DTED - Digital Terrain Elevation Database but this is not a precise method, this is also why you saw no IN RNG cue on the HUD while being in range). 8:28 - Having all of your lights on while striking a target is generally a bad idea as it makes you much easier to spot. You can turn off all your external lights with the Master Light Switch 12:16 - the landing in the hornet is done by AOA, you need to be 8.1 AOA at 3 degrees glidepath, this will place you to around -750 FPM, you can use the E bracket and indexer to the left of the HUD for this, it needs a lot of practice to get it down. 12:29 - the hornet does not flare on landings, it is designed to land on a boat, so the angle that the hook needs to be at is precise, and the FCS - Flight Control Systems are designed around that principle. 15:27 - once you launch a radar guided missile you don’t need to point your nose directly at the hostile, you instead crank - meaning you keep the hostile in the radar limits but reduce closure. 16:45 - if you use the undesignate button to designate the hostile you want and then go SCS into your radar it will go into FACQ - Fast acquisition, which is a submode of AACQ - Automatic acquisition, and this is a really complicated mode, so no need to go in depth into that. 17:04 - you can use the AZ/EL format- which is a C-scope display for the radar to see altitude and azimuth differences better than you can with the ATTK RDR, bring it up by going SCS into the Left DDI while in A/A mode I hope you at least somewhat enjoyed reading this. In the end you had fun, your viewers had fun and there's an overall net increase of happiness around the world so don't take this too seriously. Have a nice day! This wasn't just made by me alone but with the help of two good friends
@superfost20013 жыл бұрын
Great teaching points. Many thanks! Also wasn't sure but looks like the launch bar was set to carrier. RE: viper landing, i don't think the F16 was at idle 🤔
@mobius70893 жыл бұрын
AZ/EL is a C-scope huh, I've been wondering what to call it. Are you sure the gear overspeed is 230kts? I've had Hornet crew chiefs tell me 250kts. Just cross checked with NATOPS. Airspeed limitations - Landing Gear -Extension/Retraction/Extended - 250 knots. Source: A1-F18AC-NFM-000 I-4-3 figure 4-2 Since you other response was so detailed, I hope you don't mind the nitpick.

Surprised you didn’t call him out for having his launch bar extended on a field runway. Also I prefer seeing my EW page over my AZ/EL I find it to be more useful and diverse information. All great points tho.
